Check out our latest Batman Strikes related interview, this time with guest penciller Wes Craig!
He gives us the dish on the upcoming Strikes #15, featuring a tie-in to the Batman vs. Dracula dtv!

LoG: This is your second issue of the Batman Strikes....do you feel that you've learned anything from issue #10 to the upcoming #15? Has anything changed about the way you perceive the characters, or the manner in which you'll portray them?
Wes Craig: Every time you draw a character you get to know them a little bit better and hopefully every issue you get better at the over all comic. So I’d say I’ve definitely learned from Strikes #10. You keep the things that work from your previous issues and you scrap what didn’t. I can say personally I was happy with #10 but #15 is much better. Is it so good it will actually turn you into one of the undead, you ask? Read it and find out.
LoG: Were you able to see The Batman vs. Dracula prior to pencilling Strikes #15? If so, what were your thoughts on the film? If not, have you seen it now, and would you have done anything differently in the issue?
WC: It’s pretty sad but I still haven’t seen the movie, I’m getting around to it, but Nachie, the editor on the series kept feeding me character sheets from the animators, so that helped a lot.
LoG: The issue focuses on events that take place during lost time in the film, rather than serving as an adaptation....whose idea was that? DC, Manning or a collaboration of all of you?
WC: You’d have to ask Matthew Manning or Nachie but I’m guessing it was a collaboration between the two; I was brought in after the initial story idea was finalized.
LoG: Can we expect to see characters like Vicky Vale, Penguin or Joker in the issue?
WC: Vicki Vale makes an appearance, and she’s lookin’ fine, real fine.
LoG: Were you able to branch out and create some characters of your own design, particularly when it came to drawing the "Lost Ones" ?
WC: Matthew’s good like that where he has a basic idea of the secondary characters but he let’s me go in my own direction if I want. Creating those characters, even if it’s some random guy you see on the street for one panel, is one of the things I enjoy doing the most. My favorite character in this issue is the guy playing tennis with his girlfriend, he’s just silly looking!
LoG: What upcoming DC related projects do you have on your plate? Be re-visiting Strikes soon?
WC: I’d love to do another issue of Batman Strikes if the opportunity presents itself. Working with Nachie, Matt Manning and inker Terry Beatty has been great. I’m talking with a few editors about doing something else in the near future but nothing’s set in stone. I just updated my site www.mojoblender.com where you can see how I draw Batman in my regular style (very different from Batman Strikes, you’ll be surprised) and renditions of Batman by brother/illustrator/pirate Drew Craig and circus performer/penciler/enigma Trevor Haley, (we're the three artists who make up MojoBlender Studio). The site get's updated every month or so, so keep checking back.
And in February I’ll be sharing a table at the big convention in New York City with Matt Manning so if you’re going, come check us out in Artist Alley.
Thanks to everyone who bought issue #10 and voiced thier approval, I hope you enjoy #15 even more!
Now if you'll excuse me I've got to go feed my hell hound and drink a few pints of blood...
