About Serials: Serial Films were some of the earliest forms of film during the silent era through to the 1950s, often episodic in form (usually with 12-15 parts) and simplistic in plot, that were shown over a period of weeks or years. The multi-part films consisted of episodes that could be anywhere between fifteen and twenty minutes in length. The segments were presented one chapter at a time in weekly installments over the course of time. Serials were usually included during the shorts projected in a neighborhood movie theatre, offered before the feature film, B-western, or Saturday afternoon 'kiddie' matinee. They were often scheduled along with lots of cartoons, newsreels, other two-reelers, and theatrical trailers/previews. -filmsite.org

Yeah, these serials were great! Every Bat-fan owes a salute to these! Recently I have been looking to buy a poster from this serial set (I'm looking for chapter one or two.)

I wish I knew what colors the costumes really were. In black and white, they look like they're right on with the comics. Batman's outfit looks blue and grey and Robin's cape looks yellow and his costume looks like it's red and green. But I read somewhere the costumes colors were indeed wrong. Too bad they're all dead now. It would be neat to know what color the costumes were as well as what color their Bat Auto was. Currently, I am watching an episode of the 1948 Superman serial followed by an episode of this 1943 Batman serial each night before bedtime. I always wanted to do a World's Finest screening with the serials, the TV series, the Filmation cartoons, the movies, and the Bruce Timm Animated Series. Now I'm finally doing it. Cheers.

I know about Johnny Duncan and I do plan to read his interview. I visited his site and discovered both of their capes were maroon in color. I think I was referring to the 1943 serial. The entire cast of that one is deceased. According to the IMDB, Douglas Croft died at a pretty yonug age. Surprisingly, Lewis Wilson lived a long time. He didn't die until the year 2000. I'm susprised that no one ever considered interviewing him since he was indeed the first Batman. Cheers

Lewis Wilsons' cape was for sale on ebay a few years ago. It was blue, almost the same color as the Superfriends Batman. The seller was asking $1,000,000 i kid u not

That is no surprise.
The 1943 serial is a major influence on my fan film and on planned future film productions. I do not care for the racism, but taken on its own terms, I enjoy it very much!

Yay! I finally got my copy of this 1943 movie serial!!! I love it. Though I wish it had a special feature. But so far I've watched to Chapter 4 and thoroughly enjoyed them!

True, very true! Still, I still think they could have done SOMETHING! I mean even if there's one person from the cast/crew, I would have loved to see him/her! Not to mention they could have done a little history reel, they could have had a poster/lobby card archive, they could have had interviews/fan reviews of people that watched it when it first came out and how they liked or disliked it/their feelings about it (My neighbor included, he owns the local antique/comic shop in my rinky dink town, and he remembers every week, his mom giving him and his siblings a dime each so they could watch that night's serials so she could get them out of her hair). I mean something is better than nothing!!
