My brother found this on the site of Sam Liu, director of some The Batman episodes: "Workwise, i went back to animation and have been directing on the first 2 seasons of WB's The Batman, then went to Marvel to work with Frank Paur on Ironman and then Doctor Strange as a storyboard artist and am now back on The Batman storyboarding. having to work with my good friends Eric Canete, John Fang, and Tim Divar was a dream on The Batman, but directing took its toll on me and i wanted to get back to the drawing aspect of animation. my experience with Frank was reinvigorating artistically and we're hoping the direct to videos sales do well enough to get us a next set of four. Currently the new season of The Batman has been a lot of funand hard work. the scripts have been great and i am currently working from a Paul Dini, Harly story and the next one is written by writer's from Buffy. I think it would be cool if we'll see Harley in The Batman and if she is written by Paul Dini, what could get wrong?!

Just as SRA said, your news is always the best. Paul Dini writing the Batman is an excellent thing. Has this been officially announced or just on the site? I bet Dini likes working on another Harley story after having to kill her off in ROTJ.

Weird. Cus if I remember right, Nana Harley did have red and black on in the cut version. But seeing all of these other deleted scenes, I should get the uncut version. Anyway, Harley's on The Batman. Hooray!

SRA The uncut version's fight scene between Joker and Batman in the flashback scene is different. I don't wanna spoil it for anyone but its way better in the uncut version.

[shadow=purple,left,300]Thanks for the info, Green Ghost.
I'm hoping this news is true, but that doesn't mean I'm not a bit skeptical. With a new season on its way, anything could happen.[/shadow]

wow... do you know if Dini will be involved in any other episodes, or will it just be the one introducing Harley?
also, is there any word on how soon we may get to see some character designs for either Robin or Harley? I always get so impatient with this kind of stuff ;D

Great, that it is confirmed! I think this will be very good for the show, because if the BTAS lovers/ The Batman haters see that Paul Dini is writing an episode, they maybe get more used to the show and maybe like it more.

I don't think so.... in fact, i don't believe he ever comented on it at all.

Post by blinker on Apr 21, 2006 13:12:05 GMT -5
I remember he went to WB and argued with them and not doing another Batman show because he thought that would destroy what they created.
And with Bruce Timm and co. not commenting on the new show, it would end up in everyone's mind that they didn't like it at all.
But if that's not the case:
a) Besides Dini, does anyone else like it all?
b) if they do like it to any degree, why didn't they just say that?

Im sure if anything at all lay "behind the scenes", it would be more likely the fact the character of Harley is a Dini creation than anything else.

I'm sure all the core people behind the many incarnations of The 90's Batman series (Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett, etc.) feel very pround and at least a little territorial about their version of Batman. The new The Batman show is aimed at a different audience than theirs, and went off in a different direction with almsot every character in the mythos, in part to distinguish themselves from the version that had just been done. I'm sure all the tendances to be territorial about their work were made even stronger for the crew working now with Bruce Timm on Justice League since they're STILL USING their version of the character and have a fairly unbroken string of continuity between Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, Superman, Batman Beyond and now both incarnations of Justice League.
But at the same time, these guys are all animation industry professionals. They know they don't own these characters, and always have had to work within the confines of collaboration with other creators, the studio, the networks, DC Comics, and standards and practices. So I think they all understand that others would follow them with their own versions.
I don't know how closely any of that bunch even follow The Batman, but I'm sure there are things they like and things they don't. Regarless of the decision, the easiest thing to do is simply not comment.
Regarding Paul writing the Harley Quinn story the The Batman, Paul Dini is a professional, working writer and was offered a paying gig that would allow him to revisit a favorite character he created. I don't know that his dicision to take that assignment necessarily says much about his opinion of the show one way or the other.
