Hey guys! Sorry it took me so long to get back to the next round of replies.
When I create a villain I think of the essence first, then I elaborate on that. But it's very important to me that the characters traits always point towards his essence , not just extemporaneous stuff on the costume.
The lines on Riddlers mouth are tattoos.
You'll see Maxie Zues soon enough, and his flying.....
Our next villain from the past is one you will like! I just wanted to say that this upcoming season is the best by FAR, and as a Batman fan, I'm sure you'll all agree.
I would love to take a crack at Superman and Wonderwoman, we'll see what happens, but I am trying to get Batman to start meeting other DC heroes. I've always loved how he interacts with the other superheroes, they all respect and fear him to a degree and he has no powers....awesome.
Thanks I'm really glad you liked the designs, we are all trying our best to make the best show possible, and like I said this upcoming season is sick. You'll love batgirl.
Thanks Azrael 24!
Hi Arkham16!
I really enjoyed the new Batman Begins movie! I loved how it dove into the character, so we really got why he's Batman, and I like the fact it was handled maturely, not campy or people on rollerskates with glowing sticks. What I did'nt like about it was the mask, his face looked a little chubby and restrained by the mask, and his head tapered as it went up to ears pointin inwards a bit, made it look less powerful. Now keep in mind this is coming from me, who essentially put a cereal bowl on Bruce Wayne's head taped too ears on the top, and stuck big cat eyes on it and called it a day. It's a minor gripe, i still thought it was incredibly enjoyable!
If there was one thing I would change....It's already been done on this upcoming season. I'm not a fan of one liners or puns and we've gotten rid of a bunch of them. I feel it takes away from the jeopardy of the situation if everyones crackin jokes. I also have changed a lot of the designs I was really unhappy with. Penguin's been modified for better animation and so has Catwoman, now I feel alot better about them. I feel we've really put our best foot forward this next season!
A new batmobile?!!! We all know Bat's only has room for one in that tiny little cave of his. I wonder if it's in there and I just haven't seen it yet?
hmmmmm, Bruce's past training and trials, I would like to, I think it's a very compelling time in his life. We'll see.
Thanks for the questions!
Hi akiradevilmanfudo!
I do use inspiration when I'm not feeling it, but I do when I am as well sometimes. I like to see what has come before me and to really capture the feeling of the batuniverse in all the designs. Whether it's Rogers,Aparo,Bolland,Miller,Lee,Toth,Sprang,Golden,Pearson,Mad,Mignola,Timm,Murakami, and a bunch of others, they all get me going in different ways.
We did design some new villains for the upcoming season, and they are very different, and people usually get scared when I say that. One of my goals along is to give you guys a show thats both familiar and fresh.
No Harley yet, but there is something sorta in the same vein comin up!
My favorite female on the show is Batgirl hands down.
Thanks for the questions A!
I'll talk to you guys again soon, thanks again for all the great questions!

Hey J! Great hearing from you. Its so wonderful that you guys from the show take the time to interact with your fans here on LoG! Thanks for all of your hard work.
so...a possible harley-esque character comin?!
Maxie Zeus.....flying?!
I was wondering about Riddler's mouth...great to know its a tattoo...I'd LOVE to get some origin on him...he's very intriguing to me.
Great to hear that there will be less puns. Now, BRING ON THE BATGIRL!

I have a question...is there a chance we'll ever get origins or more details on the histories of the villains for The Batman? I'd love to see it, even if it were in print form...perhaps a source or guide book to the show?
I know that the show doesn't allow the time to explore everyone in-depth...but I, as a fan, would love to know more about Riddler's past...is there is a Nora Fries...things like that.
It could help expand the show a lot. Maybe an origins page in each batman strikes that could later be collected into a book?

Mr. Matsuda, it's great to have you here at LOG. I appreciate and respect that you are willing to answer questions for the fans in your spare time.
1. Was the premise of the episode "The Laughing Bat" inspired by Carl Critchlow's "Laughing Batty" illustration? ("Laughing Batty was in the 1996 Batman Master Series trading cards that were reprinted in a huge book called "Batman Masterpieces") The illustration featured Joker in a batsuit. Whether it was inspired or it was a coincidence, I thought it was cool to see that concept brought to life in a story.
2. Forgive me if this has been answered already, but...After the death of Frank Gorshin, are there any plans for bringing back Hugo Strange with another voice actor? "Strange Minds" definitely sets up Strange's obsession with the Batman.

Hey, I really love the Batman series, Art etc. I am an artist also: I had my foot in the door at DC a couple of years ago just before the twin tower incident and things went to a standstill in trying to get in the biz. I mostly do small press stuff: I have a question: would you be willing to take a peek at a few Ideas for the Toy Line I sketched up?.. and a Character I found in the old 1960'S Detective Comics issue #355 with the Villain" the Hangman". It looks like something that may work with a Darker theme.

Hello. This is just amazing and cool how the people who bring you the cartoon interact here. Coolest board ever. That said, I wanted to pose a little question to Mr. Matsuda- when he said "No Harley yet, but there is something sorta in the same vein comin up!" I got a little hopeful for another female sidekick, or two, that are up for grabs. Do you think you might experiment with Query and Echo (or Quiz), Riddler's accomplices from the comics? I certainly hope the show'll get picked up for many more seasons, all the shows get cancelled way to quickly, this one deserves to go at least a few years. Anywhoo, as director of the series you are in a position to look at all Batman's past villains and see who still has staying power, who can challenge Batman. Thanks so much to talking to the fans, we love it. Would you ever post some of your own designs here, like of Riddler? To me, there's just not enough of that guy around. Thanks again, you rock!

Nice question /\/\att I was thinking the same thing. Mr.Matsuda, I love your redesigns for the characters on the show! But, my question is will we see Riddler soon? Has Robert Englund done any other episodes besides "Riddled" and "Night and The City"? Anyways, I love your redesigns and The Batman is the best show ever!!! 1riddler52105

All in one post, let's get this going again:
First off, I like your show. People seem to dislike it because "Its not BTAS" but you, or someone invovled with the show, said that it isn't. Its a new take and I enjoyed the show since its first episode. I understand it back when it aired, and I've enjoyed it ever since.
I don't know if it was on purpose, but it seems that your show borrows elements not just from the '60s show, but the Burton films, Schmancher too, and the comics. For example, TB's Wayne Manor is based kinda on the one from Batman Returns.
Well let me started...
1. How did you pitch your idea of the show? Did you say it was "kinda Year One" or something else?
2. Was it also your idea for TB to be a kids show, or was it WB who wanted that? Did that have anything to do with Batman Begins which was I think filming at that time?
3. The Joker's design reminds me of him from Arkham Asylum, did it come from that book?
4. I saw drawings of TB but they seem to be a little creepy than the show seems to be. Does that forshadow what you may have planned for this show in the future?
5. Someone said "When the show ages, it'll mature." Has that happened or will that happen in Season 4?
6. In meetings when you talk about a character or a story in a particular episode, tell us how you work with the designers, other producers, execs, etc. Including writers.
7. Me, as well as everyone I suppose, were wondering when TB started if Gordon was ever gonna appear. Was it planned that way to have him later in the series, or did it just come up?
8. With a sidekick as Batgirl in TB now, what is your approach to Robin for Season 4? Because I'am a writer too and I have my ideas. I can share them if you like, but what's yours?
9. Rumors were going around on a Batgirl spin off. Is it true, would you love to do one? I have ideas too on that .
10. What Robin costume will you use? Because many don't want the pixy boots one.
11. I can feel it on the bottom on my throat, is the origin episode for Robin for Season 4 called "Batman & Robin"?
12. Two Face. Now is he planned for TB? If not, how would you handed him? Because, again, ideas coming from my head too.
13. Last but not least; I have to agree that this show needs to be darker. And after three seasons, its time for a change. Is this show gonna get darker than any of the previous seasons starting with the fourth season? Dark as in TBvD for the TV show?
Hope to hear back from you. If you want to know my ideas on thinks for TB, let me know.

Sorry to double post but I was wondering if we can give you ideas and suggestions for the show, etc. to improve the show and to give you more ideas that maybe you guys as the crew didn't think of before.
Because I've been fighting TB-haters so some time now. And since Cartoon Network didn't alter the airing of TBvD and the censors wouldn't go after anything that came from The Batman Strikes;
I want to add the more realistic aspects of the show's comic title (real guns for example) and the darker themes presented in the DTV into the show. That way, the show improves and matures more so and the BTAS hardcore fans can like it better than before with less to no problems.
Let's face it: in everything I've seen, chnage is scary at first but better in the end.

MANY people involved in the show, writers, directors and producers visit LoG frequently, so by posting your ideas, they are quite likely to be seen. Some things just aren't feasable, though. In the post-columbine/911 censorship era, realistic guns aren't going to happen on a cartoon...and thats not a The Batman standard...thats imposed by the network and the censors.

Ok then,
then what about redesignign the guns to make them less "toy-like"?
And let's have Joker wear shoes.
Wait, here's a good one: let's have Kevin Conroy as Thomas Wayne and Adrienne Barbeau as Martha Wayne. I know it was doine in BTAS, but lets have an episode focusing more on the parents than BTAS did.
Question: if the censors restrict mostly everything that is TB's potential and its really bad for you guys (except in the comic and DTV where the full potential appears), and its because its a mornign show instead where JLU's night airings may be the reason why they get off easier, then how about asking WB and Cartoon Network (when they air it again) to air it later instead of earlier?
Man, I'm gettingmore ideas by the day.
Howabout having Catwoman know Bruce is...or Bruce finding out Selian is Catwoman. But I would hate it if he just said "she's a criminal, needs to be in jail". No. He should open up to her and go into the batcave, she gets surprise on how he is and he goes "we should talk".
I wanted that to happen in BTAS but that coudn't work. I think something like Spider-Man openign to Black Cat and her begging him to put the mask back on because she dislikes Peter but loves Spidey and doesn't want to put the two together. That's what I think would happen in BTAS. For TB's case, it should be what I statted.
After seeing Thunder, and the fact that no military of any kind appeared, and Gordon arguing with Grange that Batman would know what to do to stop Zeus, I have a idea for an episode in Season 4:
There should be an episode focusing on Gordon only. The board of directors for the police are questioning Gordon's motives on emergencies and having the Batman do the work that is a cop's job. Also, they're questioning Batman and his equipment which they believe they stole and him putting two kids (Batgirl & Robin) in danger with him.
Now this shouldn't end with the board in a midde of Batman fighting and proving them wrong, doesn't work. In the end, Gordon should be in the board meetings and gives each member files on people would faced situations near death only to be saved by Batman Like "this girl was kidnapped by a rapist (you'll probably gonna change that), she would've been a goner since the police didn't get there in time. She's alive because Batman was there to save her."
After all that, Gordon asks them "Ask yourself this; this city's crime rate is lower than it was years ago over ONE reason, you wanna get rid of that reason?" Then they agree. The End.
Please Matsuda on that story.
Can the show start get darker and matured?
The great episodes, that even TB-haters like, are only Rubberface of Comedy, Clayface of Tragedy, Riddled, Strange Minds, The Laughing Bat, and TBvD. Why can't the whole show have this quality on every episode?
remember that promo for TB that had a different look and edge than the show is? Why wasn't that used and can that be used in the show now?

Since Robin is in season 4, how about in the DTV you introduce both Jason Todd and Tim Drake as the next two Robins (Tim - Robin, Jason - Kid Robin, the actual names to use and with Tim wearing the OYL costume and Tim wearing the original Tim drake/Grayson in BTAS and TB uniform) with Dick Grayson being Nightwing either by the end of season 4 or in the DTV.
And since you can get away in DTVs, kill off Jason in the DTV leaving Tim the only current Robin and in season 5, you have Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl & Robin. And Batman should be DARK.
