This was a good ep. But in all honesty, I found it a little boring. We all know, atleast anyone with an ounce of knowledge of who Batman is, knows how Dick Grayson became Robin. We all knew the story the moment this ep was announced. But this series version of it was still really good. I am really looking forward though to next weeks ep. The Penguins Injustice Gang is gonna be awesome. On a side note, im gonna need to go rewatch this weeks club scene for Rupert Thorn. DrGreenEvil

Can't please everyone! lol. I enjoyed it overall for sure. I too am looking forward to Penguin's Injustice gang! Who is ready for the Killer Moth!

WOW, I have to say this season is off to a great start! I'm surprised how much of a story they are able to tell in just 22 minutes. FINALLY, we got the dynamic duo. I always thought Robin's addition brought a fresh perspective to Batman. Let him see his crime fighting through a child's eyes. Also had to change his fighting style, needed to work more as a team, and not a lone wolf....or is that lone bat?? CANNOT wait to see the next ep with the Penguin and Batgirl's reaction to the new addition. All in all, this ep rated a top ten to me!!

Great Episode. I wasn't a fan of The Batman, until seeing this.
It's funny, when I saw John Grayson, I thought to myself "He looks more like Bruce/Batman". Then I heard the voice and knew. It's great that both Conroy and Hamill could play a role in the new Batman series. I like the added edge of Batman in both the voice and the "punch first, ask questions later" attitude. I also like the changes to Bruce's chin and nose, looks alot more like the Batman I know amd love.

I too really liked the cameos in the ep. I like how in almost any medium of batman there is almost always a cameo from a past batman. It really pays homage to the previous work. Once a batman, always a batman.

I posted this on a toy board where people dislike the show because of the animation, the storylines, the theme song, the "The" before "Batman," etc.
Some of the points were already made here, but...
..."Robin's Reckoning" is DEFINITELY a milestone in "The Animated Series," but it also showed the strife that Dick was having with Bruce that culminated in B:TNA's "Growing Pains." While there WERE light-hearted times and classic Batman & Robin scenes in B:TAS, Robin was already a college student and had been fighting alongside Batman for (up to) 9 years.
Here, in "The Batman," we get to see Zucco get his come-uppance right away and WE get to see Robin - THE BOY WONDER - fight alongside Batman! It was a GREAT episode and if you missed it...or don't watch the series because of the anime-style art or earlier dialogue, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! This newest incarnation of Robin is closer to the Tim Drake B:TNA Robin, which is nice!
One other point that I REALLY like, "Robin" is costumed and NAMED by his mother! I HATED how in "Batman Forever" there was that line where Dick tells Alfred he swoops in like a Robin to save his father or whatever it was. "Swoops in like a 'Robin?'"...and eagle, maybe, but a Robin??!! I don't recall the origin of the name being addressed in B:TAS. Here, Dick's mother makes him a new red and green costume for the act and HE HATES IT!!! It's too colorful! SHE says he remind her of a little robin up there!...which is TOTALLY a mother-type thing!...and the "R" in the chest is for "RICHARD!" Dick OBJECTS to the "Robin" reference and says' "Kids my age get beat up for having knicknames like that!" His father says, "Well, we can call you the 'Flying Squirrel!'" Later, when he chooses a name, he says, "Robin" and even Batman says, ""Like the bird?!" (i.e., WEIRD!) to which Dick answers, "Yes, it's a family name!" EXCELLENT!!!
Oh, and speaking of Dick's father, John Grayson is voiced by NONE OTHER THAN KEVIN CONROY!!...
...and Mark Hamill voiced Tony Zucco!
Having Adam West as the voice of the Mayor and now these two make a voice appearance as well, THESE are the BEST tributes to the previous Batman incarnations EVER!...Better than anything in any of the movies!
Oh, and in a reference back to the original Robin (and Burt Ward's costume), he wears a modification of the "pixie shoes!!!" You really can't see them in full on shots (no lines), and I was hoping they gave him high top black boots a la "B:TAS" but in a close up shot from floor level, after he kicks Zucco and lands, you can see the tips coming off the back of the ankle, like the original Robin shoes! COOL!!!
If you have been passing on this animated series, now's the time to give it another try! Batman and Bruce are being redrawn, and with the square jaw, it looks alot more like B:TAS...and with the shorter ears on a rounded cowl, it's reminiscent an animated Adam West-style cowl!....although is flaps down flat like Conroy's when removed!...
...and Batgirl and Robin are gonna have some "Growing Pains" of their own!
Anyway, try it...You'll like it!

I was hesitant at first on this whole series, being as how BTAS to me was a bible on how things should be done in the comics world for Batman, an because it was jus very carefully well written characters, this show to me was a bright spot. Not only in the brave character designs, but in how they approached things as the show progressed, never ignring the old series, but making it's mark also. And this episode was no exception. If anything, it's made me sit here salivating to see that future episode.

Wow.
What a season opener. This was classic and really a MUST see for every Batman fan. Yes, we all know the story, but to see it unfold like this before our eyes...made it truly compelling TV. Amazing performances and Andrea Romano was the Voice Director....she is one of my heros.
The Zucco monologue during his knife throwing was inspired, and the classic moment when he grabs his lapels and states, "I came from the Circus too" is more than a wink to Hammill's Joker.
The Batman has truly come into his own. His arrival at the Icepick Club is the beginning of what he does so well...seeing all the patrons fleeing the building was so very right. just loved it. My son and I watched the episode together...(he's almost 5 and knows very well the origin of Dick Grayson/Robin). He handled the death of the parents well...but what really got him was that he felt FEAR as Robin ventured into the Batcave. He projected himself as Robin/Dick and when the Batmobile suddenly roars into the cave well...it was a panic moment.
My son KNOWS that Batcave well, and the Batman having been a fan since season one, but at that moment, I think he was afraid for Robin. The scene was just that well done...
Other highlights include the portrait of the Graysons...a very touching and wonderful moment.
This is most certainly starting out to be the BEST season yet!

Not being a fan of the first episode this was a big uplift. I thought season 2 was an improvement with Riddler but this was amazing. a fab episode with great voice work by Hamill. Can't wait for Team Penguin *I had to see this season and the last via unorthodox methods as in Australia we only got season 1 and 2 on cartoon network. will the batman return to our airwaves with new episodes?

Just in case some of you want to know: Mary Grayson was voiced by Grey DeLisle. You may remember her voice as Wasp in the Ultimate Avengers films and Daphne from the recent Scooby Doo animated movies and shows.
Worlds Finest Online updated its site with this episode.

I hope you all enjoy "Team Penguin" It's a lot more of a comedic episode, but I'm a huge fan of diversity, much like the off kilter comedic episodes of X-Files. There season will cover the spectrum of emotions from dark to fun to dramatic and back again. We're happy you guys are here to take the ride with us!

Team Penguin sounds like a good step from A Matter of Family, to bring us back some laughter and carry out the balance of comedy and darkened moods throughout the season. I am definately looking forward to it

Well I certainly have nothing against more comedic or light hearted episodes... or even shows for that matter. Even if my personal preference does tend to lean toward the more "dramatic" usually. In the end its all about quality of execution for me.
