JERRY 'THE KING' LAWLER CHARGED WITH ASSAULT - Several sources are reporting that Jerry 'The King' Lawler has been charged with assault after Lawler punched Sal Corrente more than once for real last Friday night at Sam's Town Casino in Mississippi during a wrestling show. A court date has been set for August 1st however papers have to be served to the WWE Hall of Famer while in Mississippi before that date for this to proceed. It is believed Lawler will be part of another wrestling show on July 20th at the same place and that's when authorities will have the opportunity to deliver.

ECW WORLD TITLE MATCH RESULTS Chris Benoit? vs CM Punk vs Johnny Nitro
HOUSTON – Even a cocky A-lister like Johnny Nitro couldn’t stop the tears from streaming down his face.
The silence echoed from rafters in the Toyota Center. Our fans couldn’t believe their eyes. And it seemed Nitro himself couldn’t believe his eyes as he looked at his newly-won ECW World Title and held it aloft for all the fans and the fallen CM Punk to see.
When he woke up Sunday morning, Nitro wasn’t even a part of the match for the vacated ECW World Title. The match was supposed to feature Chris Benoit and Punk for the ECW World Title, but the Rabid Wolverine had to back out due to personal reasons. Nitro, who had just been drafted to ECW as part of the Supplemental Draft on WWE.com a week ago and only made his in-ring debut in the Land of the Extreme last Tuesday, jumped at the opportunity to win the ECW World Title.
Both Nitro and Punk did not have any time to prepare for each other. Nitro had not anticipated competing at Vengeance: Night of Champions and Punk had prepared to battle Benoit. However, the two young Superstars waged war against each other.
Our fans clearly were not in love with Nitro, as they repeatedly chanted “We want Benoit!” Every one of Nitro’s moves were met with boos and catcalls – and he responded by unleashing fury on Punk.
“Who wants Benoit now?” Nitro sneered at the capacity crowd.
But the Straightedge Superstar kept Nitro off-balance for much of their war and seemed on the verge of winning the ECW World Title several times. But a miscue by Punk off the top rope – and perhaps Nitro’s more extensive experience in championship matches – proved to be the deciding factor. A modified swinging hangman’s noose neckbreaker off the middle rope stunned Punk – and all of the Land of the Extreme – and Nitro had his first singles world title.
For Punk, the loss had to be devastating. This was his first opportunity at the ECW World Title in a one-on-one match (he had received his only other opportunity at December to Dismember in the Extreme Elimination Chamber with five other warriors). Like Nitro, he has been touted as a future great Superstar and world champion, and Sunday was supposed to be his night. The pain he felt after falling to Nitro was more than skin-deep.
Nitro’s title victory was amazing considering where his career was one week ago. His career seemed stalled on Raw. He was a multiple former WWE Tag Team Champion and Intercontinental Champion, and touted as a future great Superstar. But key losses in recent months had placed his career on a treadmill. Then, Nitro was drafted to ECW in the Supplemental Draft on WWE.com and he had a new opportunity to get his career on track.
Now, Nitro is the new ECW World Champion. Nitro revelled in his victory – and he wasn’t surprised by his victory. At least not openly.
“You know, I don’t think luck had anything to do with it,” Nitro said after the match. “ECW needed a go-to-guy, and let’s face it, I’ve been the top talent on every brand I’ve been on – Raw, SmackDown and ECW. And you know, I don’t know about this whole ‘Rabid Wolverine’ thing. Is he rabid or is he a wolverine? And CM Punk? He’s in good shape, but not in my kind of shape.”
Nitro showed no respect for the heritage of ECW – especially the original ECW.
“People get a little tired of the old ECW flavor. What you saw tonight was a dose of peanut butter and Johnny. What you saw was the dawning of the new era of peanut butter and Johnny.”
So, ECW has been put on notice. A new era in the Land of the Extreme has begun.
US TITLE MATCH (C)MVP vs RIC FLAIR
MVP puts on legendary show with win over Flair By Corey Clayton June 24, 2007 HOUSTON – In this night of celebrating legends of the ring, it was the brash, ballin’ Superstar who shined brightest. Or maybe that shine was just from all the bling he was wearing.
Either way, United States Champion Montel Vontavious Porter showed off an impressive arsenal of attacks at Vengeance: Night of Champions, fending off the five-time former champion, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, to retain his title. But it didn’t come easy.
In front of many former titleholders surrounding the ring, including former U.S. Champion and rival Magnum T.A., Flair sent nearly a hundred thunderous chops across the chest of MVP, causing the champion to pause and check his chest for bruises and welts at one point.
Flair kept up the assault, maneuvering MVP into the dreaded Figure Four Leg Lock. Unfortunately for Flair, MVP was able to reach the ropes and break the hold.
As MVP was in the ropes, referee Jimmy Korderas tried to pull Flair away, but MVP snuck in a low blow – a dirty move against the Dirtiest Player in the Game.
MVP then capitalized, catching the stunned Flair with the Playmaker and rolling up the 16-time World Champion for the three-count.
After the match, MVP was his usual cocky self, feigning respect for his legendary opponent. “It was, simply stated, a battle between the greatest United States Champion there’s ever been … and the oldest former U.S. Champion there’s ever been,” Porter told WWE.com.

Not sure if anyone has heard, Chris Benoit, his wife and their son were found dead in their home this afternoon. According to the Atlanta Journal-constitution and also Wikipedia, Benoit did not wrestle last night because he said his wife and son were "coughing up blood", and today they're dead! RIP to the Benoits

It so sad. Granted all we ever knew was the Benoit we saw on tv or read on the newsboards. But still, I never read anything about him being off or anything like that. Sitting here wondering what would cause someone to just flip like that ?
Ive been thinking of getting rid of atleast a good majority of my wrestling collection. This might just do it.

Benoit's death part of a double murder-suicide Written: June 25, 2007
According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.
Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.
Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.
At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.
WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.
The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.
WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

SHOCKING DETAILS OF THE BENOIT FAMILY MASSACRE - A couple of hours ago, a press conference was held in front of reporters headed up by Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard and Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. The cause of death for all three members is asphyxiation, as Chris Benoit first strangled his wife with an electric cord and then smothered his seven year old son with a bag. His wife was found in the living room while his son was in his bedroom upstairs. Chris was found in the weight room in the basement hanging from the pulley of a weight machine. During the press conference they said that Nancy was killed on late Friday night, his son on Saturday and Chris on early Sunday morning as opposed to Saturday, Sunday and Monday as previously noted. When a reporter asked how long after he killed his son Chris did the suicide the answer was, "Several hours later but not more than a day." He placed a copy of the Bible next to the dead bodies of his wife and son. His 43 year old wife Nancy had blood on the back of her head and her body was wrapped in a towel with hands and feet tied up. A lot of prescribed medications were found by CSI's although it's believed that they were all legally given to him by doctors and anabolic steroids were also found in the house. No motive was given at this time although they did give an indication that they might know the real story why this happened. Benoit sent a text message to one of his co-workers - believed to be Chavo Guerrero - but details of the message were not revealed.

I'm shocked that he's dead, and even more shocked that he killed his own wife and son. I respected him, but with this... I don't know what to think about him now.

This situation has really shaken the wrestling community, fans included. Mt brother is a huge wrestling fan, as well as afew of my friends, I used to be, and all of them are really sickened with wrestling right now. What he did, regardless of reason, is unexcusable. WWE has removed the tributes and all of his merchandise. Vince even retconned the tribute show and said that they will not even mention his name. TRUs has even removed his merchandise from their website and has sent recall letters to the stores asking for any of his stuff be taken down from the shelves. Regardless of his in ring accomplishments, all that will now be overshadowed by this act.

I want to know how Benoit slipped through the WWE wellness policy with his steroid use? I thought the whole point of the policy was to test for roids randomly? This really sickens me and now WWE released a statement yesterday saying roids had nothing to do with Benoits actions. It's absurd if you ask me.

You bring up a great point, if anybody should have been tested it was Benoit, that guy was just too ripped and shredded to have not been suspected of using steroids...

BENOIT SENDS FIVE SMS MESSAGES BEFORE SUICIDE- WWE.COM posted a detailed time line of the events over the weekend, from Benoit canceling his appearance in Beaumont, TX., to his final text message. Benoit told his WWE co-workers that his family was sick and both his wife and son were throwing up blood. After WWE officials rescheduled his flight to Houston for the PPV, Benoit started sending bizarre messages on Sunday early morning starting at 3:53. Benoit sent messages from his cell phone and his wife's, who was already dead along with her son by that time. Four of the five messages contained "My physical address is 130 Green Meadow Lane. Fayetteville Georgia. 30215" while the other one had "The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open," indicating to his friends where they will be finding his body and those of his wife and son. The last message was received at 3:58AM and sent to the Chavo Guerrero and William Regal, the same people who Benoit talked to on Friday.
MORE DETAILS REVEALED ON NANCY & DANIEL BENOIT'S BODIES- Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard provided some additional details on the bodies of Nancy and Daniel Benoit during media appearances on television. Ballard said that Nancy had bruises on her back consistent with someone holding her down with a knee and bruises on her chest which suggests she was crushed to the ground. The Medical Examiner also found old needle marks in the arm of Daniel Benoit which could have been from HGH - human growth hormone - shots he was given when he was younger. The seven year old child was said to be smaller in size than what other normal children his age would be.

I read somewhere that Daniel had a throat injury consistent with his neck being put in the cruk(is that how you spell it?) of someone's elbow. He put him in a sleeper and choked him to death for Christ' sake!!!!

SEPARATE FUNERAL SERVICES PLANNED FOR BENOIT FAMILY - The Atlanta Journal-Constitutio n is reporting that funeral services for Chris Benoit will be held in a province of Alberta, Canada while the funeral for Nancy and their son Daniel will probably be done in Daytona Beach, FL., where her parents live. Chris' father, Michael Benoit said that the family will take a long time to come to terms with what happened, if they ever do. "It's a horrible, horrible event that's happened," he told the newspaper. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Nancy's family. We're very concerned about the long-term affects on her family. There are no words to describe the loss we feel," he added. Mother and son are expected to be cremated in Georgia after a funeral home assisting the family picks up the bodies from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab medical examiner's office. It will be interesting to see if WWE will have a presence at the Nancy and Daniel funeral service and while the company won't be there officially at Chris' funeral, close personal friends of Benoit might make the trip.

What does everybody think of Johnny Nitro as the new eCw world champion? Personally I think it is a great move, the guy has talent, has decent mic skills, and inside the ring can do just about anything. The only thing I didn't like and I know it's a totaly Vince McMahon dick move was that he had John Cena come over to eCw last week and beat Johnny Nitro, how is the guy going to build any credibility? Hopefully he isn't just a transitional champion before they throw the strap on CM Punk, who I feel isn't quite ready to run with it yet.
My wish is to see Kevin Thorne or Monty Brown with the World Title soon...

My wish is to see Kevin Thorne or Monty Brown with the World Title soon... I completely disagree about Punk, I think he'd make a great champ because he's the closest thing to an original they have right now. I agree about Thorne & Brown, personally I would've put Thorn on Raw, but that's just me. To be honest I don't care what they do with ECW because, to me it's not ECW. It's just some imitation in McMahon's vision. It has no connection to the spirit or intensity of the original(and I was NOT a fan of ECW, but it was much better then this crap!)

And I do think that CM Punk will make a great champion, but I still feel as though he is about 6 months away from really being given the ball (strap) and running with it for a very long long long time... And Kevin Thorn would have made a huge impact on Raw, even Smackdown, with his talent and size the sky is the limit for that guy, who I feel improves every single week he goes out there and wrestles On another note, do you feel as though they should lighten the work schedule for wrestlers? I think they should, and here's my thoughts on it. Between wrestling PPV's and the weekly tv shows they are doing house shows practically every single night, and then the international tours, that is alot for anybody, I think they need to shorten the schedule, perhaps do house shows on Friday, Saturday, & Sundays (when they aren't doing PPV's), and then have the Weekly Raw show on Monday and the ECW & Smackdown Tapings on Tuesday I never really realized what a wrestler goes through and what there work load was until the Benoit case, and man wrestlers are put through alot and I can see, not that I would, but I can see why they would take to the drugs and the drinking. Plus it doesn't leave much time for resting and a life
