[shadow=green,left,300]I contacted our friend Chris Jones, the artist on 'the Batman Strikes' about the Penguin design as shown in the 1st issue and the art style in general. He had this to say to LoGothamites[/shadow]
The current on-line preview of Batman Strikes #1 consists of some of the earliest pages I drew for this book, as the reference for the look of the new series was still coming in and I was working with a minimal amount of information about the new look of the show. It's pretty accurate, but I think as the book went on I was getting a stronger handle on the style and the individual characters. I think the artwork on the whole is pretty solid and should only get better from here. It's a treat to finally have a work with Terry Beatty, an inker whose work I've admired for many years.
*UPDATE* Chris also added this note: The new design for me brings to mind a demented Charles Dickens character
[shadow=green,left,300]I definately agree with him on that one![/shadow]
[shadow=green,left,300]A huge thanks to Chris for taking the time out of his busy schedule to communicate with the LoG members[/shadow]

So is he saying that that isn't what the final version of the Penguin looks like?

Dickensian....that's a good way to think of Penguin, actually....I'm really intrigued to see the different interpretations of the villains in this series, but I always though Penguin made a great villain in a classic sense.

[shadow=indigo,left,300]I commend Mr. Jones for not allowing Penguin to be screwed up. Hopefully, though, he shortened the hat a bit by the end of the animation process.[/shadow]

The Penguin looks to be in very safe hands with MR Jones to me.He really does seem to have an excellent handle on the character.Thank you for that Matt.

It's funny because when I first saw Penguin I thought he looked kind of like a Charles Dickens type character. I guess it's the ten foot tall hat. (which I don't like)

it is wonderful to se The Penguin is in safe hands. Iam a Joker and Penguin fan by nature and own both of the comics they first apeared in. Both with art by Bob Kane. The reason i say this is to show how much i love these two characters and hope they stay true to themselves and the artist has done that but shorten that hat.
