This has been a long journey, but the HOPE: NEW ORLEANS charity anthology is headed to stores in two weeks. Buy a copy, and help the Red Cross. It's not directly Bat-related, but you know many of the creators and it's for a great cause.
Here's the press release:
HOPE: NEW ORLEANS anthology to benefit Red Cross
Ronin Studios' HOPE: NEW ORLEANS -- a 224-page comic book anthology benefiting the Southeast Louisiana chapter of the American Red Cross – will hit comic book stores everywhere on July 25.
HOPE has 30-plus short stories and pinups by more than 80 creators from around the world. All have hurricane or Gulf Coast themes. Although it's been two years since Katrina ravaged the southeastern United States, people affected by the destruction still need assistance. HOPE was created to help meet that need.
"Spending time on something you love to do which will bring joy to others and help those in need is good karma," HOPE editor Thomas Mauer said.
"I think lots of the creators who got involved with the anthology thought so, too, which is why we have contributors from five continents on the book."
The pieces in HOPE: NEW ORLEANS were created by up-and-comers in the comics industry and established professionals including Michael Lark (Gotham Central, Daredevil), Chris Yost (New X-Men, X-23), Russell Lissau (The Batman Strikes!) and David Mack (Daredevil, Kabuki). Mack painted the stunning front cover.
"HOPE manages to capture the quirky, offbeat charm of New Orleans, and the terror, anger and courage that came in the wake of Katrina," said Catwoman and Amazons Attack writer Will Pfeifer. "It's good comics, and what's more, it's for a good cause."
Added Fallen Son writer Jeph Loeb: "(HOPE is) enormously powerful with very moving writing and enchanting artwork…. Open your heart and take a look inside. You'll be the better person for it."
The black-and-white softcover has a cover price of $18.95.

(Plus, if you get one either at a store or at WWC, I'll be thrilled to sign it for you at WWC. So will Mack and the others.)
