Julius Marx and the Toy Otter have broken an incredible Super Powers story. A fig from an unproduced deluxe line has been discovered. Read about it all here: aftimes.com/aslu/slu.shtml

[shadow=green,left,300]Thats neat, but how do we know its legit? There have been issues in the past with false prototypes emerging.[/shadow]

[shadow=red,left,300]If it's legit, than that's quite a fantastic find. Although why Kenner would have chosen to go a Deluxe route with the SP figures is beyond me, unless it was an attempt to boost sagging sales after the poor reception the 3rd wave had received. And then of course there is the fabled 4th wave, which we all know was in the planning stages before the series was cancelled. Toyotter has just updated his SP archives with this latest find, and a whole slew of others..totally mind blowing. toyotter.com/spfind/[/shadow]

[shadow=red,left,300]Very cool indeed. Just imagine if Kenner had made all of those Batman vehicles and playsets! The proposed design for the Batcave is fantastic, along with the other vehicles (Batcycle, Batplane, etc.).
On to the figures, I am a bit shocked at how many Kenner designed heroes/villains were on the drawing board, as DC had a plethora of characters to choose from. Most of which would have been welcome additions to the line instead of characters like Cyclotron or Golden Pharoah.
And to think that there were Wonder Twin figures being considered...*shudder*[/shadow]

I would have gladly stomached Zan and Jayna if it meant getting a Deathstroke, Kid Flash and Creeper with suction cups!

I have darkseid w/o arm, cyclotron w/o face and chest, martian manhunter w/o cape and arm, the joker w.o accesories and robin with chopping arm action... their arms were taken out cuz I didn't know what they were when I was 5 and I let all my batmen massacre them for fun... remember it as it were yesterday. cyclotron is still with his spinny action though!

yeah, that toyotter link is making the rounds at all major toy sites.......
Otter himself broke the news at toymania, and Julius Marx broke the news at all the major sites he hangs out at......
I was fortunate enough to scoop it at he-man.org, and I figured somebody would be quick to get it here....I guess Blocko is that guy!
Jason (Toyotter) is recieving TONS of hits, and if we keep linking to his site from here, he will see that on his hit counter, and probably drop in to pay us a visit......he did it at the .org......
it truly is like uncovering the Ark of the Covenant, it's amazing that all this stuff survived, but what's even more amazing is that there was a prototype, that nobody had mentioned, and that nobody knew about.....
truly a great find for the 20th anniversary of the line!
and while I could lament the woes of 'what could've been' it's better to be thankful for what we got......Super Powers is truly one of the greatest superhero toylines ever, and while it would've been nice to have some of the stuff in the proposal, it could've meant losing some of what we had......and I'm not just talking Golden Pharoah, Cyclotron, and Samurai....
Super Powers was a triumph of its time, and there are still MANY characters from that line (aside from the Kenner Created characters) that have yet to recieve a figure since......
and of those that HAVE recieved figures since, there are a few cases where the SP figure STILL trumps everything that has come afterwards..........
which is a nice thing to say about a 20 year old toyline......
For the record, my Super Powers collection is as follows:
Superman (Very Good Condition) Green Lantern (Very Good Condition, missing lantern) Aquaman (Mint Complete) Hawkman (Mint Complete) Flash (Mint Complete) Martian Manhunter (Mint Complete)

Nice Link! It's funny to see Kenner variations making the rounds so early----I love that line, it's perfection.--My collection is everyone on card save for Cyborg (I have a spanish one though)

Thanks everyone. This article was a lot of fun to put together (Otter did MOST of the work). We've been sitting on this news and trying to get all the facts straight for like six months.
