Am I the only one in the world who likes Jack Nicholson's Joker better than Heath Ledger's?

i think heath ledger's(R.I.P.) is closer to how the legion of Batfans see the Joker being. Nicholsons Joker was more of a demented clown rather than a pshycotic killer intent on causing mayhem just for the hell of it

Very much so. Jack was playing Jack with makeup. Heath played the Joker in a much crazier, a much darker, and a much more frightening Joker. Heath's interpretation will be integrated somewhat into the comics. There is just too much popularity for them not to. Nicholson's Joker really didn't change the face of comics all that much. Smilex was named and the Joker got another possible backstory.

Yes, yes I'm pretty sure you are. Ledger and Nicholson are hard to compare, though, because Nicholson portrayed Joker in the time where Joker was more cartoonish. Now that Joker's a dark humor badass, Ledger portrayed him greatly. They were both amazing, end of story.

The characters were completely different. From different eras. To say one is better then the other would be disrespectful to the other, IMO

i like them both, Jack was fine for that era in the world, and for that particular movie. for today's world, and in Nolan's style of Batmovies, Heath fit perfectly. Heath was the better actor as the Joker though, in my opinion. as people have said, Jack just played Jack with makeup, you always could see Jack under it. when designing the prosthetics for Jack, they made many versions of it, slowly morphing his face into the Joker. but they stopped short of what they could have used, to make sure we could still see it was Jack underneath it all. it was a conscious decision to keep the audience aware that it was Jack Nicholson under the makeup.
whereas watching Heath, you don't keep thinking "that's Heath!", you kind of forget it's him and just absorb the character.

I don't even look at Joker as a role Heath did seeing he lost himself completely in the role. That is how good he was. I agree with Doomsday. [/shadow]

Great points, and I totally agree with you. When watching Batman 89 I totally saw it as Jack playing The Joker but with The Dark Knight I completely forgot it was Heath Ledger and just saw it as The Joker on the big screen.

Heath Ledger will always be the greatest Joker of all time. And running in second place for me anyway would have to be Ceasar Romeo, then Jack Nicholson. Although I thought that Andrew Koeing did a pretty good job with playing The Joker in Batman: Dead End

Especially if they got somebody like a Johnny Depp, Crispin Glover or even a Daniel Day Lewis to step up and take on the role of the Joker

I think most comments have seen through to the heart of the matter - Jack was playing on both the iconic image of himself and the character; Heath, really, created a character with this role, successfully blending together several aspects of how the Joker had been portrayed over the years, creating something new.

You're not alone! I personally can't decide... Ledger's Joker wasn't clown enough and Nicholson's wasn't psycho enough....

^ Joker was perfectly clown enough. remember, TDK is set in real world, so you're not gonna find a really clownish criminal, are you? There are plenty of scenes where he's clowny, like when he wants his phone call, and when he's about to kill Batman before Gordon captures him.

heath is in a whole nother ballpark it is not even close jake played that same roll in almost every movie he was in heath went into a role that was diffrent then anything he has done so based on that heath all the way besides the fact that he was so in the role that he had some possible mental cary over that caused his death(R.I.P) no one has every gottin into charecter like heath thats why no villian has touched him imo to this point and he had lived through that heof would have gotin a ton of major roles he could have been a legend with a ton of awards

I think Ledger's Joker is miles better then Jack's. He really got into the character and brought another side of him to life. As I'm sure most of you know Ledger's Joker is closer to how he was written in the early comics.
