www.dccollector.com/forum/showthread.php?p=171#post171www.moviehole.net/200814729-i...rt-downey-jr-2Well, I just lost respect for Downey Jr. "My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from." I guess the pounding that Iron Man took in the quest for the summer box office crown lefty him cranky. He should have been happy, even Favreau calls Iron Man Marvels ripoff answer to Batman. www.superherohype.com/news/ir...ws.php?id=7297"Even though we weren't going head to head, it was very clear that we could not take this character that on paper could seem very similar to Batman, and I have no doubt that just the inception of "Iron Man" was a reaction to DC. It was definitely borrowed a lot from DC because here you have the billionaire bachelor guy, who was struggling with inner conflict, and he has no super powers. He invents his own suit and his abilities come from himself. He's a self-made hero. We had to really steer clear of everything that "The Dark Knight" was doing."

he has to be anti-DC though now. Marvel wont let him endorse their rivals products, especially since he's become the new flagship of Marvel's movies and he's the reason that they have decided to tie all the movies into each other. and Favreau is bitter with Marvel right now because there is talk that he wont be directing Iron Man 2 as he's not directing the Avengers movie and they are thinking of having the same director do Iron Man 2 and Avengers.
really though, Iron Man and Batman are nothing alike, aside from both being billionaires. the characters share zero personality traits, their villains arent alike, how they are written isnt alike. they are also 2 very different types of characters in their respective universes. Batman is a hand-to-hand fighter, and uses his brains to do detective work and solve crimes and protects one city. Iron Man is a powerhouse, is a global protector, and he uses his brains to invent and enhance armors that he wears to fight global threats and threats to his company. Iron Man is also mor involved with political things and world affairs then Batman. Iron Man has been Secretary of Defense, and is currently the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Batman doesnt want any of those things and cares for Gotham above all and gets involved with global threats because they those threats are threats to Gotham. they each grew up differently as well. and Iron Man built his first armor to save his life, not to fight crime. Batman made his life's work to rid his city of crime.
so to sum up, i dont get where the comparison of the 2 characters comes from, but they arent anything like, and in no way is Iron Man "Marvel's ripoff answer to Batman". that doesnt make any sense at all.

I was just making available the thoughts and opinions of the the two men themselves. To your point that Downey HAS to be anti DC I think that may be a little far fetched. I don't think he has to be anything. He chose, and I would think carefully, to attack DC and TDK. Really compare the comments of Favreau and Downey. Favreau is gracious wheras Downey is nothing but contemptuous and venomous. I agree that Bats and IM are quite different. I made the earlier statment to echo Favreau's comments in the link. Favreau IS confirmed as the returning director for IM2. latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2008/08/favreau-is-at-w.html

Jealousy,Ironman did great at the box office but got owned by The Dark Knight so badly that Ironman is the second best thing to happen this summer and the Dark Knights is the first movie on people's minds.

They were both superhero movies of the summer! They were basically competing and TDK obviously won. I betcha Marvel paid him to say it was bad because they're rivals with DC.

I don't think the comment is fair as no one has attacked another user for their preference. I think what is seen here is fan assessment to what amounts to an attack on the property/film by a rival. The key is Downey Jr's aggression and contempt as opposed to simply stating that it wasn't for him. &%$# DC? doesn't amount to an opinion, at least one with merit in my mind.

Boy people really throw the word "slam" around don't they lol.
Of course RDJ is a little petty about TDK. IM was arguably the best superhero movie that had come out at that time. In the span of months, another one superhero movie comes out that is a masterpiece. It has been hailed by critics and the box office alike. I think he just wanted IM to have stayed on top for a little while. I don't blame the guy for being a little mad. He worked really hard on his movie and the fact that it is now being overshadowed would be kind of annoying. I like that there is going to be a sense of competition between the two franchises. Because we, the audience, will be the ones to benefit.

Thank you. i agree Batlaw, i think that snooch is way out of line to call people losers due to his self-esteem issues or whatever it is. my feeling is this, if you dont like the discussion that's going on or if you have nothing worthwhile to contribute to it, dont become a part of it. there is really no need to troll and ruin a thread and put others down.

We're all spending time on a Batman-themed message board here gang, I don't think any of us can cast stones at each other.
What Robert Downey said was rude, but it wasn't a personal attack on the character of Batman, just this film. Some people didn't like it, and they definately have the right to their opinion. The fact that Iron Man was a bit overshadowed by TDK probably had something to do with his comments, sure. Iron Man, IMO, was a GREAT movie. RDJ, IMO, is a great actor. I am sure he has his own reasons for his feelings. Definately nothing to get worked up over, lol.
Oh and for what its wroth, Robert Downey Jr. has always been very bitter and outspoken against things...this isn't anything new, its just kinda his personality.

I thought I was defending RDJ. Apparently, I hate the man and every movie he has ever been in . Everyone needs to calm down. This is a discussion board, not an argument board. Resorting to petty insults will only make people angry. I have said a lot of stupid things on this board and even more stupid ones on other boards. Live and learn. However, I'm pretty sure that my stance on RDJ in my post above is NOT one of those. In fact, I'm rather proud of that post.
