I know that I have had many a head-scratching session when it comes to Mattel (I collected the 2002 MOTU line), but I was wondering -
The cartoon for LoSH has been airing for some time now and the figures aren't available yet. Why is this? Sometimes movie figures are out long before the movie comes out.
This is an animated series - something that has gone hand in hand as toy sales are concerned since the 1980s. It seems to me they would have figures ready to go as soon as the show starts or even before then.
Of course with The Batman we get Poison Ivy (only in a box set) quite a long ways after she made her TV screen debut.
This really isn't meant to talk about Mattel, but I would like to see some images of the figures and hope they are still in the works. Does Mattel need certain time to see if the series is successful first or is this just the way things are run?

Whatever the reasons may be, from what I'm hearing, the earliest we can expect images or details will be next Toyfare... Jan/Feb? Wouldve been cool and appropriate to have seen them in time for Christmas but oh well. Seems the only partial details we have at the moment came from Mattel Rep Boywonder who essentially confirmed the LOSH figs wont be in scale with JLU. No hints given whether they'll be bigger (like The Batman or 6"?) or smaller (like Teen Titans?). I think I would prefer smaller.

I've brought up this point many times in the past. There is no logical marketing plan with attention to timing in place for these figures based on "The Batman" cartoon series characters. As you stated, it would make a lot of sense to have the figures out at the time that the episodes air, if not before. The two would promote each other: the kids see the figures in the store, then they want to watch the show. When they see the show, they want to go to the store and buy the figures, right now - not 4, 5 months later. We all know that there is a year or more involved in creating these animated episodes, and the same is true for the toys. Why can't they work in concert, bringing the product out at the same time that their greatest marketing tool, the shows themselves, are hitting the air? With that approach, we would have Robin, Everywhere Man, and Black Mask on the racks already, at the time that they (and their reruns) are airing - and during Christmas season to boot! It seems so simple...

Toylines tend to work slower than the animated shows. I think Mattel has a policy of wait and see. They wait to see if there is an interest in the toys and then they release them. You also have to take in consideration the amount of time it takes to make one figure. It is an extensive process that even now with real scan and 3-D printers, it still takes a long while to do.

Yeah, we've heard all this this before. Makes no sense at all. Why in the world would they want to "see if there is an interest in the toys"?!? No interest in Robin, huh? No interest in Poison Ivy? remember, Ivy didn't appear until a full year AFTER her premiere on the show, when we all knew she would be on the show a good 6 months prior to that, in early 2005! Then, she is in a box set at a ridiculous price point that nobody wants to pay. I don't buy that explanation at all. Look at all of the villians and side characters that appeared IN THE FIRST YEAR (1992-93) of BTAS. I just don't think that there is a strong voice at Mattel that speaks for the real, faithful, MONEY SPENDING fans of "The Batman." They just don't get it.
