Opinions will vary on this, Im sure. Its always a shame when there is a loss of life, and regardless of personal opinions, the man was a pop culture phenominon in the 80's thru the very early 90's and had some fantastic music.

I can't believe three top celebrities have all died in one week. Ed McMahon, Farra Faccet, and now Michael Jackson. Matt, I think it's kinda bad taste to make fun of the guy when he just died. It's too soon right now.

Matt, I think it's kinda bad taste to make fun of the guy when he just died. It's too soon right now. I respect your right to think that way, but my opinion of someone doesn't change when they die. If you want people to respect you in death, then be respectable in life. I'm already tired of the media using this death to make him a saint. All they did when he was alive was exploit his child molestation issues. I hate to say it, but its NOT always sad when someone dies. People die every day...nicer people..people that should matter more, and no one cares. I refuse to mourn for a celebrity that couldn't keep his hands off children. It is a shame about Ed and Farrah though. Feel bad for their families.

^I'm with you on this one Matt. I'm not going to change my opinion of someone because they are dead.

I'm not changing my opinion on him either, and I've made my share of jokes about him and laughed at others, but I just don't think now is the time. It's just in bad taste to keep making jokes when someone just died. It's too soon. Give it a few weeks.

Well, see thats funny cause I think that molesting children is in bad taste. When you have your own children, perhaps you'll understand. No one cries for monsters. Its a sad fact of life.
Now see, when Steve Irwin died EVERYONE made jokes. This was a good and decent man that loved animals and loved his familiy..and everyone made jokes at his expence. That was horrific and definately in bad taste. The Croc Hunter was a GOOD man and that was just so funny to people but OH god forbid the child molesting whack job that is Mike Jackson dies..cause gee he sang a few pop songs. Who really cares. If you live your life in such a way that you do bad things, you don't deserve good taste in life OR death.
So, you can wait on the jokes all you like. I won't.

The problem lies however, in the fact that Mr. Jackson settled out of court ,and we never got to know for 100% certainty that he did molest those kids. I mean, it is a safe bet that he did, but the only ones that know for sure are Michael, the kids and God. The unfairness of it, is that he was a celebrity, and they get away with most anything.

I don't know about you, but I would never settle out of court unless I was guilty. Especially for something like that. I'd be more interested in proving my innocence.

^Absolutely. I'd fight the hell out of it, if I was innocent. There was a lot at stake for Mike, most notably his being found guilty, something he didn't want. Prison is something he wanted to avoid, and he did. He did die "broker than the 10 commandments"

Michael was a tragic figure of mythological proportions. It's all there: the dysfunctional relationship with his father, the extraordinary talent he was gifted with, his ability to transcend culture, his rise to previously unheard-of celebrity, and a fall from grace due to his own flawed hubris. Like a modern-day Dionysus, he brought a loyal audience to the brink of madness with a phrase or a flinch of his finger, yet was considered an outcast by society at large. Money didn't mean anything to Michael, so if you want to believe that he settled out of court in the initial case to cover his guilt, go ahead; the fact remains that he was acquitted of the other charges when he did face them in court. It's really tragic how only one side of that story will ever be known. His accusers wanted his money, plain and simple, and they knew how to get it... The public wants to tear down their icons as soon as they are elevated. He was so childlike and naiive about how he would be perceived - an easy mark for anyone that he had taken into confidence. Michael gave and gave and gave, but it could never be enough. I'm not saying he wasn't a deeply disturbed person - he obviously was. But no one can understand the life he had to live, which he was locked into as a child, before he had the power or the knowledge to control his own destiny. No matter what you think of him as a person, the fact remains that he was at a level of his own as a global humanitarian, and he was flat-out the greatest entertainer that ever lived, period.

I heard that the kid who settled came out and said Michael didn't touch him and that his parents made him do it.
