“[My editors] wanted to know if I had character fatigue. I’m like, there’s no way I’m going to get tired of Batman. I feel like it’s still new to me, and I’m only getting started.”
Good answer!

WARNING: This post contains major spoilers concerning the fate of Bruce Wayne from Batman #681, the conclusion to R.I.P. and this was released today. Turn back now if you want to avoid it, but I don't think you'll be able to. You've been warned.
While the rest of Batfamily were taking the rest of Club of Villains, Batman, who's memory came back and so did his regular costume, confronted Simon Hurt. He tried to convince Batman that he was Thomas Wayne but Batman didn't believe him. He then threatened to release the photos of his parents and Alfred as perverts, addicts, and criminals to the media unless he joined the Black Glove. Batman still refused and as Hurt was escaping in a helicopter, Batman jumped up and they both crashed into the Gotham River in an explosion. Nightwing only finds Batman's cape and cowl. It isn't until 6 months later that the Batsignal shines in the Gotham skies again. I guess this brings us back to the first page from the first issue of the storyline of the new Batman and Robin.
This is going to be a very interesting year for the Batman Universe.

All I'm going to say is this...
I thought the ending was very anti climatic - and - Wayne can't be dead or retire because I just won't simply allow it.
It could be true - that Wayne is dead or retired or abducted by aliens or watever - but still I will live in eternal denial (like Joker and Harley's breakup - I live in total denial about that too xP)

So, we have to wait until the end of Final Crisis to see what the Dark Knight's 'fate' is?
Weak.

The "death" of Batman was headline news on the radio whilst I drove home from work.. Call me cynical...been here before havn't we DC? ahem.. Dommsday v Supes? Publicity like this shifts comics by the millions...and then we will have old bats back. Demand for Mr Wayne won't allow them to "kill" him permanently. Silliness. He's 70 next year and will outlive any writer or fan.

[shadow=red,left,300]I agree with 1047pm. Its huge publicity stunt just like Superman vs. Doomsday was! But I did find news of someone else taking the cowl of Batman! For the sake of Bob Kane's creation, I hope they don't go through with it! Here is the article:[/shadow] sify.com/movies/fullstory.php?id=14808412

Relax....Bruce Wayne will be back...like he came back before and like Clark came back.
remember ...global economies are struggling, people are not spending...DC need to spark a media frenzy somehow to generate record comic sales and stay ahead of the slump...big businesses are going under and this is a sign of desperation.
DC meeting
"Hey guys...remember how much attention we got when we killed Supes? Newspapers..radio..tv...fanboys going crazy....swearing that they could never accept it etc etc....LOL we sold some comics that year huh?!!!"
DC know that supes & bats are their flagships....don't forget the recent phenominal sucess of the Dark Knight movie.
Saying "we have killed Batman for good" is like saying..."We don't want to make money or sell comics to out loyal fans anymore."
Same as Doomsday...fans went crazy...called it the death of DC etc but still bought the comics...Supes came back ands it's now one of if not the biggest story arcs in Supes history depsite most fans hating it at the time.
It's like a rollercoaster...you don't like where it's going whilst you're on it but when the ride is over..you're like "wow that was some ride....let's go again"
It's sensationalisim...nothing more....relax.
Bruce Wayne will live in one form/comic or another as long as there is demand for him by fans.

For true fans there is always a demand, Batman without Bruce is like Laurel without Hardy.
It just doesnt sound right

Eh, its just a gimmick.
I was very disappointed with all the build-up. A helicopter crash into a river? reeeaaalllly? I mean c'mon, couldn't we have done something a little bit more interesting than that. How many bodies are really recovered in watery crashes. ugh.
Of course we didn't think Bruce would ever die. Not really. And if he did, he'd find his way back. They'll never kill off Bruce. But it will be fun to see a new Batman in the reigns. I enjoyed the Knightquest storyline years back and Az-Bats was a great addition to the mythos..so perhaps this will prove to be similarly interesting!

it still boggles my mind how everyone here can believe that Bruce died in that helicopter crash. that crash occurs before Final Crisis takes place. Bruce is alive and is Batman in Final Crisis. Morrison wrote both stories. Batman has yet to die. Final Crisis is as current as the DCU gets right. its the present day for the universe in that series. he's still alive, albeit enslaved by the anti-life equation, but he's still alive.

Heh. Whats funny is how Batman "dies". Helicopter crash into the river. Anyone remember how Joker "died" at the end of Death in the Family?

Well, I'm not reading Final Crisis, so that would explain why I have no idea about the current status of Bruce. Please do fill us in, then. Do you have any theories on how Bruce will "die" as of yet? Does it look to be the work of Darkseid? I'm sure you have at least a theory at this point.

Does it look to be the work of Darkseid? I'm sure you have at least a theory at this point. Final Crisis is actually quite interesting and i am enjoying reading it. the delays have been horrible though and the continuity problems are common. Morrison definitely is not reading books he's not writing and isnt talking to any other writers. 4 issues have finished. at the end of the 4th issue we get the return of the real Darkseid as we find out that the torturing and experimenting of Dan Turpin was to turn him into Darkseid. apparently the New Gods have entered the human bodies of others. Darkseid and Libra are the main villains of the story, and Libra is most likely one of the New Gods as well as he's much more powerful than he ever was before (i've heard he's really Glorious Godfrey, but nothing has been shown yet). Barry Allen is back and is alive. he and Wally are 3 weeks in the future right now. Martian Manhunter was killed in the first issue. there's only a handful of heroes not affected by the anti-life equation that was sent through the internet and broadcast over the media. Bruce isnt a huge part of the story right now. The Outsiders are going to look for him. my theory is that Bruce is the body for one of the New Gods, possibly one of the good ones like Orion. he'll become them and save the world and end the crisis and then will be that hero for awhile until DC and us readers get tired of reading a Batman that isnt Bruce and finally bring him back. he wont be dead. if not a hero and if all this "evil wins" stuff is true, then i see that Bruce is one of evil New Gods and helps destro the world, which of coarse would be that "fate worse than death" stuff we've been hearing. i can easily see Morrison have Bruce be one of the New Gods. that leads to my next theory and who will be Batman in his absence. i'm thinking it'll be Jean-Paul Valley. he's back, so wh not have him be Batman. he's been Batman before. people wont boycott the Batman titles because they'll want to know how and why he's back. it wont be like the first time he was Batman and he snapped, he became a true and good hero in his own title. i think it could work.

It would be cool if JPV donned the suit again, I loved the Knightfall storyline( i spent days and days tracking down every isssue) and JPV coming back would be good but only if the "system" takes over and he goes nuts again. I'd like to see JPV taking revenge on all the people that almost destroyed Bruce.
Is JPV going to be part of the Battle for the cowl story??

Is JPV going to be part of the Battle for the cowl story?? he hasnt been announced as being in the story, but he easily could be. Morrison does like shock writing, and it could be a surprise ending to the story.
