By Alex Segura
Bruce Wayne is back – but what has he returned to?
In his absence, his closest allies and deadliest enemies have blazed a new path, creating a Gotham that’s different and in many ways more menacing than the city he left behind. So, how do his protégés, allies and foes react to the man that stands before them?
Is Batgirl’s career over? Red Robin was right – but what’s next? After mourning Bruce Wayne’s death, can Catwoman face him?
Welcome to BRUCE WAYNE: THE ROAD HOME, eight one-shots that cover the city of Gotham and beyond, from Dick Grayson and Damian to the Birds of Prey to Red Robin to Commissioner Gordon in stories told by some of the industry’s brightest stars, including Adam Beechen, Fabian Nicieza, Mike Barr, Pere Perez, Ramon Bachs, Marc Andreyko, Cliff Richards and Bryan Q. Miller, featuring a connecting, 8-part cover by superstar artist Shane Davis.
All these questions and more will be answered. But surely we can throw down a few more teases, right? Take it away, Batman Group Editor Mike Marts:
“Bruce Wayne’s journey back home has been a long and dangerous road, but before he can assume the mantle of the Bat again, he must first figure out how things have changed in the world around him, how relationships have changed…and how those changes will effect his decisions moving forward as the protector of Gotham City.”
BRUCE WAYNE: THE ROAD HOME begins in October.

*cough* gimmick! *cough* *cough*
I love Grant's & Finch's work, and I'm psyched that Bruce is reclaiming his rightful place in the DCU but everything that's been released these past two years have seemed like a terribly cheap publicity stunt. It's as if DC's desperately trying to be Marvel. If I wanted ridiculous multi-part status quo destroying cross-overs every other month I'd start reading Spider-Man or Uncanny X-Men.
Am I asking far too much here? Can't I just have my Batman back? The last time I read something that actually felt right was during the beginning of Paul Dini's run on Detective. Stand alone stories, nothing groundbreaking. Just plain old vanilla-ie Batman.
I seem to have gotten entirely off topic here. The covers look astonishing but I'm not entirely sure that I want to pick up 87 different one-shot books to get the entire story.

I think all you'll need is just The Return; the rest are just as you said gimmicky.

his actual return was in RoBW # 6 & B&R # 16 (which of coarse was delayed), each of these issues involves Bruce evaluating the respective members of the Bat-Family. while the concept is great, the fact that DC has decided that Bruce cant possibly operate as Batman unless he now possesses abilities that rival Superman is just plain ridiculous. the new suit is just wrong. he doesnt need all the powers it possesses & it just doesnt fit. i can understand for certain situations you break it out, but for all the time use its just an easy copout for DC.
i honestly dont know why i expected better with this series of one-shots and the entire return of Batman. perhaps i thought that maybe DC cared even alittle bit about the character and setting things right with a return to some form of normalcy, but sadly i was again mistaken. perhaps the next company wide event will make things better for Batman & his world.

I for one like the One-Shots. I think that they are great. And I totally get that it is just a gimmick and they are one shots that all tie into each other but I think that its pretty cool. So I don't mind buying them. I enjoy reading them. The Batman universe, next to the Green Lantern one, is my favorite. So to have a few more books a month published just solely on Batman and Bruce's return is fine by me.
