Hey guys, I recently wrote/directed/edited a Harley Quinn fan film that is a re-imagining of Harley Quinn's origin story that is inspired by Paul Dini's 'Mad Love' graphic novel. The film comes out June 1st on Youtube but in the meantime here is the teaser-trailer for the film: linkLet me know what you think and I'll post the full video as soon as it's released. Thanks! -Mark

Hmm. I just watched the trailer and I'm going to be honest about it.
1. The acting is pretty bad. The way Joker's eyes travel all over the place when he's delivering lines is distracting and makes it seem like he is having trouble focusing. If there's something that can be said about Joker, he may be crazy but he's not scatter-brained. She appears to be a non-actor. Could be good, but she needs practice.
2. You didn't spend any time or money on the sets. I know it's an interrogation room and a typical house but Batman is all about atmosphere and you don't achieve atmosphere without spending real effort on set construction or good locations. Blackgate Pen always looks like a medieval dungeon and that's done for a very good reason. More effort needed.
3. Makeup is underdone. Since Jack Nicholson, Joker has been more than just white face and red lipstick, more imagination needed.
4. Dialogue was alright, it's a good foundation. Now get yourself and art director.
Basically if you're going to do a film that is for a broader audience than you, your friends and the actors you need to find ways that subtly transcend what the pros have done. Obviously you don't have the resources to outdo them but if you're imaginative and tenacious you'll be able to insert elements or style that the pros didn't think of. And you have an advantage, you've seen everything Batman so you know what NOT to do. For visual elements you have to push further and do something never before seen if you want people to take notice.
But good effort and there is real promise to do something that Batman enthusiasts will really like.
