Awesome! Thanks for the news J-Man. So was it nominated or did it win? [shadow=purple,left,300]It's nominated. The awards are on March 5, and while it probably won't win, it's still nice to see it receive some sort of notice from the Academy![/shadow]

i don't think the odds are that bad..... after all, if forever won three, this one's got a chance, right? i'm no expert, I only see at most maybe 2-3 movies a year, so this is a naive opinion, but..... I wish they would look at the acting in that movie. It was good. no, CB probably won't be nominated for best lead male, and freeman and caine will probably be passed over for supporting, but....darn it! there WAS real stuff in that movie, and I wish they'd notice it. one little acting/directing bit i liked---now, this wasn't a particularly pivotal scene, but the realism in the acting/directing was great. he's sitting crosslegged on the floor, writing, and hears the bat in the other room. looks up......goes back to writing. hears it again, looks up......gets up to go out to look, and alfred says there's probably a nest somewhere. ok, small scene, but.... i liked how they did it. i'll go away now.....

Yeah!! I hope the movie wins too. IT's not that big of a category, but it's cool.

again, naive person's opinion here, but.... if forever won it, and begins was nominated.....almost get the feeling that "cinematography" is the one they give to movies that show the most primary colors on the screen in the brightest neon hues-----ooops, wait, that was forever...... maybe this is the category where they put movies that were really pretty with some nice scenery (iceland, london, bale, etc ;D) but they can't quite stomach the thought of giving the directing oscar to. .....grrr....now that almost makes me mad, come to think of it....

When I saw this film the cinematography almost immediately reminded me of The Godfather Part One...when you compare the lighting, textures and settings (especially the interior scenes) it really is remarkable. I think that a cinematography Oscar is a very real possibility...hopefully some of the voters will make the same connections.

(once again, with feeling....if forever won, and begins doesn't, I demand a recount.....)

(once again, with feeling....if forever won, and begins doesn't, I demand a recount.....) [shadow=purple,left,300]I'd only demand a recount if "The New World" won. I liked how the cinematography was done with both "Batman Begins" and "Brokeback Mountain," so its a hard choice. But I'm secretly pushing for "Begins" because, well, it deserves something.[/shadow]

Memoirs of a Geisha got it. stinkin' Japanese.... lol, jk...maybe. At least a quality film took the honors. I didn't want to see Begins losing to something ridiculous like Kong. well deserved.

I didn't see the movie, so I won't comment on it, but Begins didn't win...blah.

Alex Baldwin once said "If you're nominated, and you don't win, thats fine and you won't have to worry about projects afterwards. If you do win, sometimes if not most, you do worry afterward."
Maybe it just being nominated is best. If you won a award for a movie, I would think I woudl become spoiled on only getting more and nothign else.
Let me ask this: if Begins wasn't on the awards list at all...or since it hasn't won any, well one for....sound? I forgot. Are you now seeing this film differently since it didn't win?

[shadow=purple,left,300]In short, for me, this was just one of the many upsets! After watching Begins again last week, I realized that its shots were fantastic.
But hey, at least we know the new series has Oscar potential. Maybe it can get a nod for Make-Up in 2008, assuming they have the Joker, Penguin and possibly Two-Face. That should be amazing![/shadow]

To be honest, I really couldn't care less. I still like the film for what it is and love Pfister's cinematography as well.
Sure, it would've been nice to see some recognition, but the majority of critics and the public already gave Begins a lot of recognition as being a solid, quality film when it came out. And I actually cared more about people recognizing the seriousness and quality of the Batman mythos rather than what the film could've won the Oscars.

I say this was a fix. How could the best Batman movie of all not get any awards, yet the Schumacher era of Batman gets 3? What the hell is going on? Did we all get sucked in to Bizarro World?

I don't care that it didn't win. What matters is that it was a great movie. As far as compared to Forever, maybe it was fixed, maybe there was easier competition for that year, or maybe the academy liked Forever better. They are entitled to their opinion as much as we are.

As far as compared to Forever, maybe it was fixed Greatly doubt it. maybe there was easier competition for that year Most likely. or maybe the academy liked Forever better. Possibly. I don't care that it didn't win. What matters is that it was a great movie. Now we're talking... Let's see... Batman Forever got 3 Oscars and Batman Begins got zero... SO WHAT?!It's not like it's a statement that Forever's a better film. Or even that Forever's Award winning technical achievements are better than Begins's since, obviously, the Academy judges each category with the other films in that category. Perhaps they thought: Memoirs of a Geisha > Batman Begins > Batman Forever > the other 1995 films nominated for cinematography We'll never know. But I seriously doubt they compared the two Batman films when judging this. Forever is a little more than 10 years old.

The Oscars are meaningless. At best they only offer manufactured and bogus legitimacy.
