I will make my official stand on this. I have broken down each movie incarnation and the character behind it.
First we have Joker as portrayed by Jack Nicholson: This in my opinion is the best incarnation of the character, and the mannerism's were so good that even Bruce Timm I think used a little of Jack's acting in his incarnation. In the end, we have the Joker as everything he is, he is the Worlds First fully functonal Homicidal Artist...
Catwoman as portrayed by Michelle Pheiffer: Here we go, this is Tim Burton using his rights to the licence to cast Catwoman as more of a manic lashing out at someone who tried to, or in all intents and purposes did kill her.
Catwoman is a thief, pure and simple, I can't even give a proper character study cause Tim Burton blew out her thief kneecaps and gave her vigilante ones instead.
Penguin as portrayed by Danny DeVito: This one is iteresting, they used alot of the same character aspects, but made him into to much of a vicious animal, to me... Penguin is a pimp, a casino owner, a club manager. Nothing more nothing less.
The Riddler as Portrayed by Jim Carrey: One thing I notice is that the Riddler gets no respect. Whether its the comics or the movies. Casting Jim was a good idea of course, after no one in my opinion is as eccentric. But they moved from a good look, when Riddler first appeared the the "?" Suit, to the one piece tights. Eeeewwwww! As far as persona, he was obsessed. So in fairness, he was a good Riddler.
Two-Face as portratyed by Tommy Lee Jones: I don't know what problem people have with this. This was great portrayel, and is one of the only real backgrounds in the movies to stay in tact. Good balance between hatred and humor. This was near perfect, except for the purple.
Bane as Portrayed by... I don't even know who did Bane...
I will forever hate Batman & Robin and Joel Schumacker for this. They turned one of the most intelligent and strong villains in the DC Universe... into a walking muscle with no brains!!!! Disgraceful! Then they make him a lacky to Freeze and Ivy, when in the comics we all know it would never be so. They destroyed his character and made him an idiot, I curse thee!
Mr. Freeze as portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger: This was bad casting from the minute I heard it. Not knocking Arnolds acting, but Freeze is a scientist, not a marine. Not a wrestler. How dare they assume Arnold would be good for this, he didn't do a horrible job, he just didn't do a good job.
Poison Ivy as portrayed by Uma Thurman: First off, this was also bad casting, they needed someone who could not only sound sexy, but be sexy, seductive. She couldn't do this, and the fact that she's hiding from the role doesn't help matters.
Ra's Al Ghul as portrayed by Liam Nielson: This is what you get when you want the job done right. In a role I could always have seen him do, Liam gives me what I want, the loss of the Lazarus Pit was a bummer, but you never know, he could have survived.
Scarecrow as portrayed by Cillian Murphy: This was an awesome move for the character, it fits into him so well its like second nature. His mannerisms are awesome and he gives the performance with grace.
