OK, guys, I've been reading about Ra's al Ghul since the '70s and I'm STILL not sure how his first name is pronounced.
When I was a kid, I went with "Rahs" even though it was originally spelled with a line over the a.
Then I started calling him "Rays," "Rayce" or "Raysh."
But then last night on the HBO First Look, somebody pronounced it as Rahs (I think it was Nolan).
What is it supposed to be already? I'm losing sleep over here.

[shadow=purple,left,300]I've always referred to him as "rahs," even though B:TAS called him "rashe" (and that was how I learned of Ras). Rashe just sounded weird.[/shadow]

I've always been a 'Raysh' fan. I think Rahs is too easily converted to 'Ross' or 'Razz' if pronounced just slightly off.

I always liked saying "rashe" but logically it makes sense to say "rahs". The word is referring to "demon" if I'm not mistaken. A demon is basically a dark god. Forgive me if I'm bastardizing my gods here but the dark god of that culture is Ra. I've always heard of Ra being pronounced as "rah". Although I doubt that the posessive works the same as it does in the english alphabet but the posessive of the would be Ra's. Anyway, that's just what my brain cooked up.

In a world where "HERRRR" means the same as "HERE" in a song that's in the top 20 and "FOSHIZZLE" means .... something.... I think either way is fine.
Seriously, like Matt said - Rahz is correct.

The name Ra's Al Ghul is Arabic and, according to my sources, the pronounciation of the film is the correct Arabic pronounciation.

yeah Neeson pronounces it as Raz-al Ghul, when he says "i'm merely ducard but i speak for..."

Rahz may the actual or traditional pronuncation, but for me it was difficult hearing it come accross as "Rozz". I'm sure its in no small part do to hearing it said as Raysh from BTAS for so long. Same with Darkseid. I had convinced myself years ago it was "Dark-seed" but realized its actually "Dark-side" (which I dont like as much lol. Either way its not that big of a deal.

Neeson's pronunciation struck me as odd too. "Call me Razz al Ghul. Y'know, like the berries..."

When I watched B:TAS, I pronounced it Rashe, but now with Begins, I now pronounce it Rahs. Did they have to give him a weird name?
