This has been discussed somewhere in another thread at some point. Deffinately a missed oportunity and loss to the fan community. If I recall correctly, this was a hugely popular and favored treatment circulating the scene for some time before it was transormed into Smalleville. (and if I'm not mistaken, personal differences Etc. between creators / studio folks Etc. were to blame for it's shoot down. Besides just studio conflicts / concerns with big screen releases?). It is a real shame this was never realised as the very idea has always filled me with delight! Oddly enough I had "fantasized" about such a show for years before learning of this a few years ago lol. Just thinking of what couldve been (could be) drives me nuts!

I heard about this a while ago, I think it would have been pretty interesting, only when I think of it, I don't think they'd have enough to go for more than a couple seasons. I am reading on the site, and I would fear it becoming like Smallville, where they incoporate anybody from bruce's future

[shadow=purple,left,300]This series would have been interesting, but I have a feeling it would have turned out like "Smallville." It would make for an interesting series (it probably wouldn't last long), but it would probably mess with the Batman universe we all know and love.[/shadow]

[shadow=red,left,300]I'm happy that this series didn't move forward, as I'm afraid it would have become a mess like Smallville has as of late. Or worse...like Birds of Prey. [/shadow]

Somewhere in this series I could see bruce befriending joker before he was Joker, dating catwoman b4 she was catwoman, and involve many more characters.

the guy that was going to play a young Bruce Wayne actually played in Smallville as Lana's boyfriend for awhile before moving on to star in "LOST"

I read that they didn't do a Bruce Wayne series is because WB wanted to do an origin movie on Batman: Year One at the time and therefore did not want any conflicts. The story would be of a teenage Bruce Wayne returning home to Gotham City a few days before his 18th birthday after living abroad for a decade. He remains haunted by the deaths of his parents. bruce has studied Martial arts and gymnastics ( where no one knows). He is an emotionally troubled teenager. His reluctant return home eventually leads to his life's calling. Upon turning 18, Bruce will inherit WayneCorp which has been controlled by a trust since his parents death. In charge is Charles Pallentine, a shady executive ( shades of Richard Earle Batman Begins). If Bruce dies before he reaches 18 th company will go to Pallentine. Aiding Bruce to find out the sinster goings-on at WayneCorp are his old schoolmate and now star law student Harvey Dent, one of the few honest detectives Sgt. Jim Gordon and supporting turns by a very young adolescent Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), a slimmer Harvey Bullock, WayneCorp Intern Lucius Fox, a slinky party goer Selina Kyle and a young budding reporter named Vicki Vale.Kind of "Easter eggs" for Bat-fans. Alfred would be there too. Bruce would be at times sulky and rebellious but making quips akin to Robin or Spider-Man than being the hard bitten old crimefighter. But they would eventually show him come to that. Like Anakin Skywalker eventually becomes Darth Vader in Star Wars and you see how things developed as Bruce will eventually become Batman. Interesting maybe, but since Batman Begins has come that project is long gone.

the guy that was going to play a young Bruce Wayne actually played in Smallville as Lana's boyfriend for awhile before moving on to star in "LOST" Ian Somerhalder, right? He wasn't going to play Bruce Wayne in the series. According to KryptonSite, Shawn Ashmore (X-Men films' Iceman, Smallville's Eric "Superboy" Summers) and Trevor Fehrman (Clerks) were considered to play Bruce Wayne. Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville's Lex) was up for Harvey Dent and David Krumholtz (The Santa Clause) was up for a young Jim Gordon. Only one I could see out of those is Rosenbaum as Dent. As for Somerhalder...Gough and Millar were going to have him as Bruce Wayne in Season 3 of Smallville, but had to go for "Adam Knight" for those episodes instead since WB wouldn't let them do it. They said this on a recent interview at IESB.net. Ian Somerhalder would've worked as young Bruce, though, IMO. He's definitely got the dark look (even resembles Keaton a bit) and is a decent actor. I think the series would've been pretty interesting, but Batman Begins is definitely the better bet. I did notice, however, that there were some parts that resembled Batman Begins (i.e. Charles Palantine sounds similar to Richard Earle).

That is exactly the guy I was thinking of, thank you! I think that the series would have worked if done right. Even if it had it's little ups and downs it would be cool to see Bruce Wayne every week for five seasons, just like Smallville is coming up on. They could have really explored his past. I think even though Batman Begins is a super cool, best bat film ever, I think that Warners missed out on a great oppurtunity. (IMO)

I also remember reading about this way back in 99 or so. At the time I thought it was a brilliant idea, but after seeing the pile of crap that is Smallville, Im thankful it never got off the ground. Plus, Begins might never have seen the light of day had this show been made. A show that probably would have been in the same classification as Batman & Robin, and Forever. We should all count our blessings.
