They had a villain music poll on the Animated board so I figured I'd make one for the live action movies. I went with the Gotham theme from Batman Begins. It's played during the monorail scene in the beginning and also at the debris of Wayne Manor in the end.

I voted for main theme for Batman and Batman Returns. Danny Elfman is great. Plus, I ususally hum it sometimes, along with THE BATMAN theme.

I like all the music from Batman Begins. I think Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard did a great job and did a memorable theme like Danny Elfman did with Batman/Batman Returns.

Yeah Batman Begins really grew on me upon multiple listenings. Although the heroic sounding Batman theme was underplayed in my opinion, I really think they're going somewhere with it. If Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard are both back for the next one, I bet the theme will be much grander. And although the Gotham theme is my favorite specific theme, I think the Batman Returns score is the best of the movie scores.

I voted for the Penguins theme from Batman Returns. It fits the tone of the movie and the character so well. Very eerie. I like it!

You forgot the BEST one!
Track 10 on Batman: DESCENT INTO MYSTERY
This has always been my favorite piece. Played during the batmobile ride to the batcave with Vicki Vale.

I had to vote for the original D Elfman theme from Batman/Batman Returns. It is just so connected to the character, like the Superman theme from the C. Reeves films. I find myself humming it all the time!

My only regret about Danny Elfman's music is that there wasn't a Joker theme. That's why when I think of the Joker, I think of Shirley Walker's theme for the animated series. And Batman Forever and Batman & Robin's scores were flat out mistakes. I really wish Elfman had stayed on to do Batman Forever at least. Although I'm happy that we got new composers for Batman Begins. I'm really hoping that they both stay on.

Elfman's Joker theme, in my interpretation, is the crazy waltz that plays when he kills Grissom and when he is dancing with Vicki. Elfman's Batman theme is my favorite. It really feels like Batman. Dark, mysterious, and heroic all the same time. Zimmer and Howard's Batman theme was heroic, but, IMO, lacked the dark edge that made me feel like it was truly Batman's theme. I'd put Shirley Walker's Batman theme as a close second to being my favorite and then the Catwoman theme from Returns as my third. Which cue would you consider the "Ra's Al Ghul theme"? The music playing when Ducard tells Bruce about his wife, or when Bruce fights "Ra's" or when Ducard tells Bruce "If you make yourself more than just a man..." (the same cue pops up later when Ra's is talking to Bruce in Wayne Manor) I'm curious which cue you'd consider to belong to Ra's.

It's the "If you ake yourself more than just a man" cue. I think it's on the soundtrack twice but I know it begins at about 1:35 on the track called Lasirius. Seeing as it reoccured I figured I'd include it. Also it's a theme for a villain. It just seemed to fit with Ra's perfectly, keeping it mystical and mysterious. For Batman's theme, it seemed like there were so many reoccuring motifs in Begins so I just decided to go with one choice to cover all of them. I just didn't quite know how to label each individual one.

[shadow=red,left,300]My favorite would have to be Elfman's Batman theme . As BatmAngelus already stated, it's just perfect...mysterious, haunting, and heroic all in one fell swoop. Perfectly captures the character.[/shadow]

My absolute favorite is a tie between Elfman's Batman theme and the Begins Batman theme, the one that played when Batman was gliding down the stircase in Arkham, and I think when he was driving with Rachel in the Batmobile. I love all the Begins music, tho, and all the Batman '89 music.

Hate to bring up an old topic, but I felt the need to chime in. It's soooo hard to pick an all time favorite Batman theme. So I'll just break it down by film/series/project.
If I had to pick one definitive Batman composer, it would ofcourse be Danny Elfman. "Descent into Mystery" and "Charge of the Batmobile" are my favorites from the 1989 film's soundtrack. "Finale" is awesome...so awesome in fact that until Batman Begins they've used it over and over for Batman movie trailers and commercials (including animated and Schumacher's movies, even though they had their own themes)
From Batman Returns, "Birth of The Penguin" always riles me up, especially at the part where you can almost "hear" the words "Batman" and then "Returns", appear and 'unroll' as you listen to it.
Out of the Elliot Goldenthal work, "Batterdammerung" is my favorite (the theme playing right when Batman lunges to save Robin and Chase from the Riddler's death trap.)
I didn't ever bother to get the "Batman and Robin" soundtrack, from what I've heard there isn't as much differentiation between the sounds of BF and B&R to warrant picking it up, in the way that "Batman Returns" was such an 'evolution' (not necessarily better than "Batman", just different, yet 'familiar').
From Shirley Walker's "MotP" soundtrack the "Main Title" with the faux "latin" chants (producers' names backwards) is really epic sounding. "The Birth Of Batman" would be my second place favorite from that album.
From the Batman Beyond (series, not RoTJ) soundtrack, the "Batman Beyond (Main Title)" is cool but my favorite is "The Legacy Continues"--it's the theme that's playing when Bruce Wayne is 'hiring' Terry McGinnis as his "personal assistant" in front of his mother and warning him that he "can be a difficult taskmaster". That scene is cool because they are having this secret conversation that is completely flying over Terry's mother's head, but I digress... the music there is so good--the way it starts off sounding like "happy-ending" music, then right at the point where Bruce says "Welcome to my world", it changes suddenly (but somehow, naturally) to a variation dark techno Batman theme.
Finally (I know, this is a little long), from "Batman Begins", my favorite theme is the theme that plays during Batman's first appearance, after he has dispatched Falcone's men and knocked out the main man himself and compliments the homeless man on Bruce Wayne's "nice coat." It's a little hard to find on the soundtrack because that scene is actually split across a couple of tracks (Batman vs. Thugs is part of "Artibeus", Batman vs. Falcone is in "Corynorhinus"), but the exact sound I'm talking about is really short--- it starts playing at "Corynorhinus" at about 4:40 in and lasts until the end of the track (only 24 seconds long, but its sweet). I think a lot of the reason I like that track (and plenty of the tracks I've chosen as favorites) is because of the awesome scene that its playing during---even though they are great tunes by themselves.
Sorry for the huge post...I could go on and on about Batman music.

Not to burst your bubble but the part of Corynorhinus that you speak of is actually played at the very end of the film ("I never said thank you." "And you'll never have to"). The Batman/Falcone bit is not on the soundtrack and in that cue, the Batman theme is much much louder and broader whereas at the end of Corynorhinus, it is softer and in the background. I wish it was on there, but it wasn't. Oh well.

D'OH! You're right! It's the same 'tune' or 'motif', but there is definitely a difference between the Falcone scene and the Batsignal scene. It annoys me when they leave out whole sections of the movie's score when they publish the album. In the 1989 movie score, "Batman To The Rescue" starts at about the part when Batman and Vicki crash through the doors of the Fluegelheim/Flugelheim Museum, but there is 'supposed' to be so much more lead in to that tune, starting at the point when Batman crashes through the skylight!

Even though I loved the main theme song for "Batman" and "Batman Returns". But that was back in the day, now if you listen to the "Batman Begins" soundtrack, my new favorite song is track number 5. It may not be as popular among the Bat-fans, but I think the song is really catchy and it captures the mood of BB.

The old NA NA NA NA NA NA NA 66 version will always be a favorite of mine, it was my first introduction to Batman on TV in a non cartoon form (watching re-runs as a kid) so I voted for that
