You may have heard, as its now public knowlege, that WB and UPN are merging to create a new network, CW. To put any initial fears at rest, The Batman WILL air on CW (as well as Cartoon Network again soon!)

because neither network by itself gets enough ratings to compete with the big four. However, they think by combining their best shows, they'll be a contendor. They're probably right.

The WB's two highest rated shows and one of them is ending this year
1. 7Th Heaven, which is ending this season because of production costs 2. Gilmore Girls
I wonder with the merge if 7th Heaven will be back? Not that I care, but I am just curious

[shadow=purple,left,300]Well, that is interesting news. Hopefully CW will do well.[/shadow] I wonder with the merge if 7th Heaven will be back? Not that I care, but I am just curious [shadow=purple,left,300]The issue wasn't ratings, it was soaring budget costs. The actors were being paid way too much too keep the show financially viable for the network. It will definitely be over with come May. [/shadow]

My fiance is a huge 7th heaven fan, and I do catch it from time to time and if they were to dump about half of the actors on the show it may have a chance. They have The Camdens taking in every single charity case and then keep them around.
Another show that had the same problems was The Flash back in the early 90's, great ratings, but high production costs....

[shadow=purple,left,300]Network executives at WB were talking about a possible spin-off, though they haven't said anything major since they announced the series' cancellation. But with the merge, those plans might be put on the backburner for more suitable programming (since CW is trying to appeal to a 'hip, young audience').[/shadow]

Since we are talking about UPN & The WB merging I thought this might interest a few wrestling fans.
UPN, WWE STRIKE DEAL - Variety is reporting that UPN has already worked out a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment to keep Friday Night Smackdown! on its lineup for two more years. UPN, who along with WB will be shutting off this September and emerge as one network - The CW - made it clear that they want wrestling on their new schedule. The current deal with Smackdown! expires in September, right around when the network will shut down.

Is there any reason that they just decided to combine the networks?

Is there any reason that they just decided to combine the networks? [shadow=purple,left,300]Well they probably did it because both networks were struggling opponents of CBS, ABC, FOX and NBC. It would be easier to attack the Big Four as one network rather than as two mediocre networks (actually, cable network FX had higher ratings than UPN last season, at one point). Or at least that's how I see it. And who knows? I think the new network (TV Guide says the name "CW" is only temporary) has a chance of doing it, especially if it keeps on shows like "Veronica Mars," "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Smallville."[/shadow]

I heard about this. Very cool. I wonder if the network will be on basic cable or digital cable. I hope is basic.

Didn't they already cancel Michigan J. Frog a few years back as the mascot of the WB?
