Hey, guys. I had a thought.
Other writers (Brad Meltzer comes to mind first) have auctioned off names in their books for charity. In other words, there's bidding for the right to have a character bear your name, and the proceeds go to charity.
The folks at Ronin (who published HOPE: NEW ORLEANS) agreed with me that this could be a fun way to raise money for the Red Cross.
You folks are among my biggest fans. Who'd be interested in bidding to have a character, building or other feature bear their name in a future issue of THE BATMAN STRIKES, with the proceeds benefiting the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the Red Cross?
To make it worthwhile, bidding would have to start around $30 or $40.
And, as an extra, the winning bidder (as long as they live in the US) would get an autographed copy of the book in question from me, as well as some other Batswag.
Who's interested? If there's enough interest, I'll set up the auction at the Ronin Web site.

[shadow=green,left,300] That would be wicked to be in a Riddler issue! But that is not the reason I would consider, helping out is the objective. Hmm, I will see if I can earn some money to help. [/shadow]

Matt: Please wait to post anything until I send you a news release about the auction. I'm just testing the waters right now. I still have to set a date and other details.
But thanks for the encouragement!

There definitely is interest here, thank you! In the next few days I'll set up the thread at ronin-studios.com/ . In the meantime, those of you who are interested should go there and create forum accounts so you can bid when the time comes.

Interest continues to climb, with well over a dozen fans aboard. It looks like this is going to be an eBay auction, too (the EIC at Ronin's going to handle that part) with the starting bid somewhere around $50.

I know some of us would appreciate it if you couldn't mind posting here when either the auction is underway (or if the idea fizzles out). I will most likely neglect to check the Ronin forums on a daily basis (I already have so many to visit). Much appreciated!

Forget going to the Ronin boards -- sorry, I thought I made that clear. I will post here when the auction begins. It likely will be up for a week. I've suggested a $50 reserve (it's for charity, after all).
