Anyone know the "official" color of Batman's current costume? Blue or black? It seems to change in every issue...

[shadow=purple,left,300]Isn't it kind of both? I always seem to see the black reflect blue. Well, just thought I'd comment, even though I have no answe to that question.[/shadow]

[glow=purple,2,300]It kinda depends on the artists' taste. But in most cases it's dark blue/gray with tons of black shadow.[/glow]

I always thought he just wore whichever color he feels like that night.
I mean, he's got tons of Batmobiles, why not atleast a couple different Batsuits.
Im sure its just the artists preference, though

That's what their marketing teams said while thinking up some of the day-glo orange variant outfits they put ol Bats in over the years....

Maybe I should have been more specific.
I meant he can switch it up between the black/grey and blue/grey outfit from time to time. Batman should NEVER wear any bright, neon colors.

That makes sense, though I wonder if that's the case. Who knows. It seems to me that in Batman/Supes, Robin, and Detective Comics, he's in black, and in Batman he's in blue (see Batman Hush figure for proof...). Speaking of which, how much cooler would the Batman Hush figure look in black?
Fanboy-itis catching up with me, Dan

I open all my figures except for doubles. I'm getting that set, though it's way overpriced.
The main reason it was ever blue is due to the coloring techniques in printing when comics first started up until refined uses of computers in the past 20 years. Superman and other character's with black hair have blue highlights or blue hair due to black appearing as a blob with no contrast with old techniques. The first Colossus figure was made with blue hair, though it's black in the comics. Spiderman's costume was originally black and red in Amazing Fantasy 15. Blue stands out better and can translate to shades and shadow better with old, 5 color printing. Now, with computer shading, it's just preference, though black makes more sense for a bat and was the original color of the costume. And with Robin's black cape, Batman looks odd in blue next to him.

That's really interesting, thanks for the info Det27. I like both colors, but the black makes way more sence. I've never seen a blue bat.

Wow thanks for the info...I hope they release the black variant separate from that set, since $250 is a bit much.
I too think the blue costume looks silly next to Robin's, and especially Nightwing's, costume.
Batman should never have a lighter costume then Nightwing, it just doesn't seem right.

EVERYTHING DET27 SAID IS TRUE, INCLUDING SPIDER-MAN'S COSTUME BEING ORIGINALLY RED AND BLACK. IN CURRENT COMIC BOOK CONTINUITY, BATMAN DID USE A BLUE AND GRAY COSTUME BEFORE KNIGHTFALL, BUT HIS COSTUME IS CURRENTLY BLACK AND GRAY, AND THE ONE BEFORE, (THE ONE WITHOUT THE TRUNKS), WAS ACTUALLY ALL BLACK.
