News is out. Mattel is making a kids line of figures similar to those Marvel ones. They look great, Why didn't they make these when I was in pre-school? ;D www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/toyfare/003376544.cfmFirst release will include: Batman Superman Green Lantern Flash Aquaman and Lex Luthor

IM definately picking up the batcycle and batmobile. Think about it, that batmobile will be able to fit nearly any Batman figure ever. And im debating whether or not to get the superman with the supermobile (thats basically what it is). Hopefully they will show more at toyfair. Still hoping for a huge playset of somekind. Hoping for a Hall of Justice type place where all the heroes can hang out, not just another batcave or ever a fortress of solitude.

If only they included that custom Joker figure we saw about a year ago. You know, the one with the bloody crowbar?

Yeah we discussed these way back on LOG.
That was one of the places they got the idea to go forward with them. I've been pushing for these since 2003!
This is the line I'm most psyched about for 07

This is a line ive been looking forward to for a long time to. With Rescue Heroes and SPideyfriends, youd think this would have been a no brainer from the begining. Not so keen on the inclusion of villians though. Think for the age range this are reaching that its still a little to early to tell kids this is a bad guy. Lines like this are supposed to encourage teamwork and things like that. Definately getting everything Batman. Might even get the superman flyer. Still hoping for a huge playset though. Ready to see what other characters they role out later in this line. Hoping for an invisible jet.

Targeting the infant/toddler age sector is certainly not something new for Warner Bros. Consumer Products...but aging down DC Comics' stable of superheroes certainly is. So, why the wait?
"We've been talking about doing this for a number of years based on the nature of the DC Comics superheroes and the role-play experiences for kids associated with these superheroes," reveals Karen McTier, executive vice president, domestic licensing and worldwide marketing, "but we've always been protective of the action figure line, and wanted a true point of difference." No time like the present to forgo the hesitation and create the point of difference, as according to WBCP research, the toddler—and young children's—market is one of the fastest-growing retail segments. Forecasts predict sales of character-licensed merchandise will rise from $13 billion in 2005 to $15.6 billion in 2010—a 20 percent increase. "So the market may be a bit crowded, but it's definitely a growth area," responds McTier when asked about the overabundance of properties in the preschool sector.
Big heroes That aside, McTier contends the demand for DC Super Friends, Big Heroes for Little Boys, as the program is dubbed, was apparent with excellent TV ratings ("younger siblings are watching the shows based on DC Comics' stable of superheroes with older siblings," she says), DVD sales, and retailer and mom approvals. "When doing focus groups with moms for this age group [preschool], moms have a great feeling for the DC Comics superheroes. They are all-American heroes that moms are comfortable with. So it's a very viable program because of a pent-up demand," affirms McTier. Of note: Some 61 percent of toddler product purchases are made by parents, 23 percent by grandparents.
To protect the already-established core action figure line, master licensee Mattel (for both) is on board to create a younger, unique but complementary basic and deluxe action figure line for Super Friends, as well as vehicles and other accessories. "From a toy perspective, we felt comfortable the toys would all reside in the same house [Mattel]," says McTier.
The Super Friends program with a broad target of ages 0 to 5 (with the bulk of the target in the 2 to 5 age range) will launch first with toys in fall 2007, according to McTier. As a global partner, Mattel will launch the toy line on a global basis. Together, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Mattel will work on the creative for the brand for both advertising and merchandising opportunities.
Infant initiatives With toys as an anchor, McTier says apparel will follow in spring 2008, followed by bedding and bath (and other home décor items) in fall 2008

sounds like they really want to make this a flagship brand. Could it possibly be that they are unable to distribute their resources to other lines, thats why we arent seeing as many new offerings from the older exisiting lines? Just a thought, I just think its funny that one of the coolest things coming from Mattel is a preschool line when it comes to the DC heroes.

Well I'm definately buying the Batman & Batman related vehicles/characters. But does anyone find this freakish? They have a Batman/Superman esq. overexagerated body design & frightenly small kindergarten kid heads, it scares the willies out of me. & Batman's smiling! I know they want little kids to buy this but they could atleast have him with a neutral face like a slight frown. I see no reason for him to smile... Srry, my ranting's over.

For some reason Batman's hands are HUGE compared to the other figures. You know with hands like that he's going to get more interest from the ladies...

People under the age of 25 probably don't remember this...but the Bat used to crack a grin here and there, until ol' Frankie Miller got ahold of him. Its a welcome change back to the good ol' days for me.

What is 'definitive' for a character like Batman is really up to the individual. To many people Jim Lee draws a 'definitive' Batman..but you know what, a TON of people can't stand his take. There truly is no definitive Batman, he's a character that has culminated for well over 70 years of history! The past 20 years is only a small part of that.

I don't really consider Frank as the definitive Bat-writer. I'd say that's Mike Englehart

Man!!!!!!!!! These things can't come out fast enough. Have a feeling that the next wave will have Hawkman, Robin, and Joker (with the routine Superman and Batman because toy compaines dont think a line can sell with out the bigs guns plastured all over all the time). If they stick to 6 a wave, wonder who the 6th in the next wave will be. Also hoping they reveal some sort of playset. A supermobile would be cool. Still hoping for the Wonder Woman with the Invisible jet. Also think Green Arrow, Supergirl, and Batgirl will show up sometime. Green Arrow car would be awesome. Man the wants/dreams lists for this line is almost endless. This line has so much potential. Since it is a true toy line, meant only for little kids and not really collectors, it can branch out into vehicles and accessories and not have to worry if they are gonna sell or not. With Mattel already having all of the old Resuce Hero stuff, they already have so many accessories that could be rereleased and work just fine with this line. And the fact it has access to basically the entire DCU helps alot. If it can be kiddiefied it has a chance in this line. DrGreenEvil

Good ol Frank. He pretty much gave us the definitive Batman. Yay Frank! With the success of Sin City and the upcoming 300. I would like to see what could be done with Franks take on the Dark Knight.
