WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER CRISIS!!! Things are as good as they will get right now, IMO. Plus I don't like the multiple earths thing.

Plus I don't like the multiple earths thing. Have you read any of the books that dealt with multiple earths? Those issues where the JSA/JLA had their annual meeting were classics. Or Barry and Jay meeting up on Earth 1 or 2 to work on something together... those really were some good stories, IMO. As someone that grew up when those stories were being published, I would welcome a few different Earths back into the DC-verse.

I'm the first to agree with Reid about that, but for any readers who have only jumped on in the past 20 years I know that going back to multiple earths probably makes no sense. I can only hope that the purpose will be in part to re integrate those great golden and silver age stories back into DCU continuity, otherwise (deep and heavy *sigh*) I'm not really sure what the point of doing it is.

I agree. There's no point in reintegrating Silver Age, other than to shove nostalgia down our throats and continue to make the medium of comics, particularly the DC Superheroes genre, less and less relevant.

I agree. There's no point in reintegrating Silver Age, other than to shove nostalgia down our throats and continue to make the medium of comics, particularly the DC Superheroes genre, less and less relevant. You make an interesting point about relevancy. Are you referring to it in terms of continuity or in the broader sense of storylines that deal with more real world issues in comics. As an example of the latter : starting in the early 70s you've got the Adams- o'Neil GL/GA series that gave us Speedy's drug addiction. This incident has been retained in the current continuity. Why I want to see a return of earth 2 is so that there can be a stage for those early silver and golden age type stories that won't affect current (what would become earth 1) DCU continuity. For example, I like the Big Bang comics line because of it's tongue in cheek approach to comics. Although I like nostalgia, I completely accept that many readers have no use for it. The only good reason I can see for bringing back earth 2 would be to give older fans, or those fans with a taste for nostalgia , a continuity in which Superman and Batman were part of the JSA, Alan Scott is Green Lantern not (shudder) Sentinal and the Spectre is still Jim Corrigan. If fans don't want to know from these stories, they never have to bother with them 'cause they'll take place on a seperate earth with it's own continuity, much like the comics featuring the animated DCU. When DC revamped their universe in the 80s with Crisis they effectively rewrote (read: eliminated) their own history. But what's done is done and to rewrite it again would not be fair to the generation of fans who grew up with only one earth. For me a return to earth 2 would serve as a connection to the golden and early silver (or perhaps "atomic" age of DC). If they are simply going to transplant the existing golden age heroes onto another earth while keeping the revamped historys established in the past 20 years intact then no thanks, I'll stick to reprints.

I guess I can see where you're coming from to a certain extent. There are important pre-Crisis events, obviously. But many of those stories have been integrated into post-Crisis continuity, like your Speedy example.
It just seems like it would be flooding the market with another universe just to say that we acknowledge something that happened half a century ago. And is it really that appalling that a compnay print a story, build a universe, then revamp it. Do we have to continue to pay tribute to the comics our grandfathers read? I guess I just really can't see why I would need to have an Earth 2 Superman in the JSA.
Isn't the current JSA supposed to be this create success? Aren't these current characters integrated with Silver/Modern characters, and interact on a daily basis? Would DC be destroying this success to undo Crisis?
On another note, wouldn't this badly affect tie-ins with these characters? For example, Wildcat appearing on the JLU cartoon or a Golden Age DC Direct figure?
It just still seems to me that the main reason for this pre-Crisis fervor is nostalgia. And that's why they make reprints.

I just wish DC would follow Marvel's lead and do a B&W Essential series which would be way more affordable than their hardcover series. Personally all I want is a few stories reprinted every so often like the 100 page editions they put out not so long ago, or more trade paperbacks like crisis on multiple earths. If I can pick up a couple of those several times a year I'd be happy.

Nostalgia is a POWERFUL entity...I love me some Transformers...but have you even attempted to watch the old show...it's bad. Now BEast Wars....BEast MAchines...quality writing (past the 1st 10 eps or so of BW) but the old Commerci....cartoon....not that great.

The original 1973 Superfriends brings back great memories, but I can only take the show in small doses. Same with golden and silver age tales. I like 'em but only a few at a time, which is why I prefer smaller compilations rather than those $$$ hardcovers.

Doesn't change the fact that I liked it when I was a child. But now, ouch. And I'm with you on the pricy hardcovers. That's nuts. I'm glad DC is using the opportunity of Batman Begins to release a TPB of his earliest adventures. They plan to release more, too, which is good.

Actually, when I say small doses I mean the opening credits or a 60 second clip, then I'm good for a while. Contrast this with the new JL and JLU toons (actually all contemporary DCU toons) which, if I come across while surfing, I have to just watch...deer or critter in the headlights kinda thing.

This could be a preview of things to come... I think that is Jason Todd. If you look closely, he has short sleeves on; Robin costume. It also looks like a boy's figure. I also think I see an eye mask on his face... I don't know why it would be Jason, but that is who it looks like to me. As was said, the cover has a blue tint, so his costume isn't necessarily blue. I have no idea if he can be Red Hood and the body, but I think he is the body, nevertheless.

I still say Blue Beetle for numerous reasons. Plus, the latest issue of Wizard had an article about the new "crisis" wherein it was commented Beetle plays a major / important role.

There was some preview art available of the first 3 pages of Countdown. They were taken down because Wizard has some kind of preview in their rag. Anyway, some of the posters at Popcultureshock saw the preview - you can read their comments and thoughts here.Looks like the Beetle theory might just be the one to bet on.
