I guess another "newbie" style question, but it almost defys even comic book logic that Dick Grayson has been in the business for so long now with essentially a very, very small mask covering the eyes. As both Robin and Nightwing. At least you can make a "You know that Kent guy has a passing resemblance with...Na, theres no way" with Superman. Plus its been "explained" that Superman "vibrates" when he is in his "alien" form and that "blurs the way he looks" but was anything explained with Dick and his ID?
I'm going to guess the "Robin" theory is that "Robin" has/had no real big "ID" to protect. Bruce Wayne being very carefull and all, they have never had much strings to protect... Okay now I'm confusing the hell out of myself! Basically I can see the "You know, that guy Grayson (or Todd, Drake, ect) looks an awfull lot like Batman's sidekick Robin! You think? Nah, can't be..."

Well, alot of the thugs and villains don't see much of Robin, only when he's kicking them in the behind or running away, that and Tim Drake is a low key boy. Now Nightwing, it's the shape of his mask, I think. Put on a pair of tight sunglasses and you'll notice it will change the look of your face, with Nightwings mask, it's over the eyes, between the brow and down his face, the sculpting could have been made so that the shape might be hard to decipher. Is that helpful?

thats true the masking of the eyes can hide you quite well,i was at a halloween ball last year where you were only allowed to wear a tux and eye mask(nightwing, robin,Green lantern etc)and a few people i know quite well including a cousin didnt recognise me so there is something to that

I've never really thought about it. It's a 'suspension of belief' type of thing. I believe that Superman can fly and also that a domino mask is sufficient to protect the identity of not only Nightwing, but a number of other heroes. If I really tried to analyze every aspect of the comic I was reading, my adult sensibilities would come into play and I wouldn't be reading them.

Some questions are best left unanswered. Just one of life's mysteries.
