I think Gotham City is just as important to the comics as Batman himself is. Do you think Batman will ever leave Gotham? What are your thoughts on Gotham?

Gotham City is Batman's home, spiritually as well as physically. It was the dark streets of this hellish city that gave birth to the Batman. Altho he leaves Gotham from time to time to journey elsewhere, he will never not come back. That's how I feel about it.

That's how I feel, he knows the alleys and streets better then the scars on his own back, it just seems like everyone else is leaving. Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl are all in this new city, why? Gotham is big enough for all of them.

[shadow=green,left,300]No, No Batman wouldn' BE Batman without Gotham City. Its the city that drives the man. The psychological need for some feeling of control over it.....because its darkest depths took away what was so dear to him as a child. He's embraced it....made it HIS city. Gotham is as much a part of Batman as anything. He will stay with it to the end..if it were sucked down into the bowels of the earth, he'd go right down with it. [/shadow]

Well it practically was in No Man's Land ;D
I just wish the other's would come back, Batman iconic, sure, but he needs help. Robin and Nightwing are the arms of his machine, the emotional gears that keep Batman from overblowing sometimes.
Anyway, back to Gotham, I wish there was a coffee table book with drawings of artists renderings of Gotham from all over the world... *drools*

Hmmm...I think that other heroes, even Robin and Nightwing, just don't have the same affinity for Gotham. They have been there because Batman is there, and maybe they need some time away, or want to intentionally give Batman some space, with all he's been going thru(i.e. battling Hush, War Games, Red Hood, all of which have taken an emotional toll on Batman). They might also feel that they need to establish themselves in different cities, as Batman is kind of imposing, and rather possessive of Gotham. Maybe after War Games and such events, Gotham holds painful memories for the rest of them, and while, altho Gotham holds painful memories for Batman, as well, he is attached to it because of that, I suspect the rest of them now want to get away from it because of their own tragedies, just an accumulated amount of trauma and horrors they've gone thru. So, altho Batman would never leave Gotham for good, or even at all unless he had something important to do elsewhere, it seems the rest of them just want to get away.

Nope. Bats would never leave "His City". W/ the obvious exception of temporary excursions or adventures as needed. As many writers and creators have tried to emphasize and elaborate on repeatedly over time... Gotham is itself actually a major and crucial character within the Batman mythos. It has a life and soul of it's own that both feeds, and feeds on the rest of the cast.

Batman leaving Gotham is a preposterous notion.
In fact, as I've gassed on about elsewhere, I'm of the mind that Batman stories should almost exclusively take place in Gotham. Except on rare occasions, I'm not a fan of Batman as global traveler and I certainly am not a fan of him facing off against aliens, hanging out on a satellite, etc.
I yearn for an alternate continuity where it's just Batman (and maybe Robin) in Gotham, with few if any other heroes in their world. Keep it real(ish), I say.

Batman will never leave Gotham. its HIS city. its why he is Batman, and if he ever left Gotham, he wouldnt be Batman anymore, he made the oath to his parents that he wouldnt let something that happened to them happen to others if he could stop it.

Batman and Gotham are inseperable anytime he leaves its for Gothams benefit and only for short periods of time too.thats why I couldnt stand the Birds of Prey television series its based on an impossible premise....Batman abandoning his city for good
