OK, kill me if this has been buried in another thread somewhere but over on Newsarama, it was reported that both Gotham Knights and Gotham Central will be cancelled come February.
I'd already heard rumors of Gotham Central's demise and I've seen elsewhere there are rumors it will be replaced by a similar title.
Anyway, a lot of DC news is apparently due later today because the February solicits are coming out and that's a key month for the coming changes.
Not that I'm an expert or anything.

Gotham Central is my favorite title, though I'm not surprised it's getting cancelled. I'd been hearing something to that effect for a little while.

Oh man. Gotham Knights is one of my favorite titles. I had trimmed down my monthly titles to like seven and that was one of them I kept. I'll miss it, but hopefully that means we'll get a new Batman title in it's place.

I just read that article. It looks as though Hawkamn will be changed to Hawkgirl by Simonson and Chaykin and Wonder Woman and Flash will be canceled.
In June and July there will be a major new book introduced every week. That sounds interesting.

so no Gotham Knights, Gotham Central, or Hawkman. this is horrible news. though i am very curious as to why Flash and Wonder Woman would be cancelled.

So that the books can come back with #1 issues and possibly new characters in the roles.
The Bat titles being cancelled will be replaced by "Streets Of Gotham" and "Batman Confidential"

Wasn't Gotham Knights doing well?
Oh well. At least we have a new Bat-Title coming. Batman Confidential sounds good, but will it be a "Batman" book? As in will it be like LOTDK, Batman, and Detective Comics?
So after nearly 5 years, it's gone. We shall say goodbye in Feb. But Feb. won't be a total letdown. LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT will mark it's 200th issue!

Thats unfortunate. I have been getting WW for the wife but if the current book is cancelled, I wont be starting up a-new. Same with Gotham Central. Its a surprizingly good book every issue. It's cancellation is too bad, but if its replaced with a near identical book for no real signifcant reason then its just stupid! I wont burdon myself with re-newing a new title. Ive been needing to start cutting back anyway and these moves will make the desicions for me. Ive cut Star Wars and All Star B+R and time will tell if any of these "new" Bat-titles are worthy. I think Ive reached a point where I dont "need" every monthy Bat book.

True, most re-starts are not significant in the grand scheme of things - since this is comics, no one ever stays dead (cept Bucky, thankfully - he was a horrible sidekick IMO). Rumor is Donna Troy will be taking over the role of WW after the Crisis. There were rumors (which we discussed) that Wally will bite it - then those rumors were debunked - now the title is going to end? I think Wally will live - but he'll stop being The Flash for a time and Bart will take over. (Yes, it's reading between the lines of the rumors that are floating around out there, but if I'm right...) Also, *SPOILER* Atlantis is being raised from the depths by the Spectre so expect some changes in Aquaman's book also. A #1 issue shows a significant jump in sales for a book. It's maintaining those sales that becomes tricky. Typically, a book that jumps to a new #1 will see a spike for issue #1, a slight drop for issue #2 and #3, and a larger drop for #4. Usually it will then stay near (or slightly below) where the book was performing under the previous numbering system. Can't agree with you enough on the need to cut back. Last week, I walked out with one, count 'em ONE, book. (Honestly, it felt great - almost like I'm beating an addiction...) Instead of picking up everything along with one new book per week to sample, I've just been picking up stuff I know I'll enjoy and reading most of the other stuff in the store.

Yeah, I've heard that Streets of Gotham will be in a similar style to Gotham Central but will be broader than just the cops.
I hadn't heard about Batman Confidential until you mentioned it Reideen. Thanks.
I'm with you guys who don't read every single thing that comes out. I'm a dabbler at best (but that's a thread of a different sort).

Bucky never died, he became the Winter Soldier. also are Brubaker and Rucka still going to do the new GCPD title? Brubaker and Lark have gone to Marvel. Rucka said in an interview over on Newsarama (check it out -- it was posted today) that he felt it was time to end things on Gotham Central. So, no, it looks like whatever may be in store for Streets of Gotham, it's not the same writers. Or even necessarily the same characters or approach.

MORE Cancelations from Dan Didio's interview at newsarama.com
Plastic Man with #20 Flash with #230 Superman #226 is the last issue for that numbering Wonder Woman #226 is the last issue of that run Gotham Knights #74 Gotham Central #40 JLA #125 and Batgirl #73.
hmmmm... I wonder if cancelling Batgirl makes way for an Oracle future??

I wonder if cancelling Batgirl makes way for an Oracle future?? Keep in mind, we already know that there will be changes to many characters following the Crisis. These books will jump 1 year ahead, so the numbering that they currently are using may not be relevant. Heck, some characters may not even be around following the Crisis (IE Wonder Woman) DC will have a new book out, rumored to be called '52' which is supposed to fill in the blanks about what happened over the course of that year gap. I expect, if this 'experiment' doesn't work, DC will go back to the old characters and numbering systems somehow.

hmmmm... I wonder if cancelling Batgirl makes way for an Oracle future?? Rumors are out there that there might be a Batwoman and Babs would be it. Also, in that same DiDio interview he says there's nothing on the horizon soon to replace GC and GK (at least that's how I read it). I wonder what that means for the Streets of Gotham and Batman Confidential rumors.

I wonder what that means for the Streets of Gotham and Batman Confidential rumors. Batman Confidential (and Superman Confidential) are more than just rumors. I think DiDio is playing word games - these new titles aren't 'replacing' the books that have been cancelled technically - they're new books and new concepts. Brave & The Bold would also fit in with the new Superman/Batman focus IF they work it like they did in the late 70's & early 80's where it became almost a 'Superman/Batman Team-up' type book. As far as Barbara being Batwoman.... I don't know yet. The Braniac tech appears to be rebuilding her - how far they'll take that storyline is anyone's guess right now.

It would be great, IMO, if they brought back Shadow of the Bat. I always thought it was a mistake to cancel that book. I don't know when Batwoman's first appearance is planned, unless its here: www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=4338

Interesting point on Confidential. I did see somewhere that Gail Simone might be writing the new Batwoman with Babs, but who knows?

I don't think that's it. That strikes me as an alternate reality type deal. Then again, who knows with the Crisis, etc.

The affects of the Crisis are taking place in March in our beloved Bat-titles. It's One Year Later... DETECTIVE COMICS …and who is the mysterious vigilante who's been keeping Gotham free of crime? BIRDS OF PREY …and the Birds have a new mission — with a new lineup that will shock you! NIGHTWING …and why is Nightwing hiding out in New York City? BATMAN …and who's responsible for the murder of another Gotham villain? CATWOMAN …and why is Selina Kyle no longer Catwoman? ROBIN …and why is the Boy Wonder wanted for murder? The Infinite Crisis is affecting our beloved heroes. How will this end and whose lives will change forever?

NIGHTWING After looking at this cover again it hit me..... I think Red Hood AKA Jason Todd might be Nightwing come March. Look at that knife. It's like the one Jason uses as Red Hood.

Does anyone know what the name of the crossover between Batman and Detective Comics is?
