I was browsing the web and found that Frank Miller is writing a Batman book where he has Batman take on Osama Bin Laden, titled Holy Terror Batman, he has 120 of 200 pages complete. I was wondering what does everybody think about that?
Here is a link to one of many articles: abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=1616836&page=1&ad=true&ad=true
Me I think it will be pretty cool to see, but haven't we seen Batman over the years take on terrorists before? Death in the Family was based on that, Bats taking on terrorists. With Frank Miller writing it, I wonder how graphic it will be, I will check it out for sure

Normally, I'm always for Miller's work and taking the good fight for All Star, but Batman vs. Bin Laden? I think that's a little too much in my opinion.

Ridiculous idea. If it weren't for your newslink, I'd dismiss it as mere rumor.
While Batman should and will stay in touch with times to stay meaningful to readers, to have him take aim against a real person still alive is out of bounds. If Miller wanted to say something about terror, there are a billion other ways to do it than make an obvious propaganda loaded statement against Osama. Specifically targeting someone like that is just a publicity stunt.
Things in the real world are much less open and shut than the comics we read. While I am not suggesting for one moment that what bin Laden has done is right, he is not Satan, and deserves more rational thought and debate than is often seen in works of pop entertainment.

If this causes controversy, this could ruin Batman's image forever!

I don't like the idea, either. Propaganda in comics hasn't been done for a long time, and now would be a terrible time to start doing it again, imo. I hope this story doesn't start a propaganda fad- that would be disastrous. Obviously I'm also a huge fan of Miller's works, and try to support what he does in comics, but if this story turns out like it looks like it will, I think I'm gonna have to pass.

Miller mentioned this last year in Entertainment Weekly, tho this is the first detail on the project.
Batman taking on terrorists is the same as the '40s heroes fighting in WWII. If it's done well, I see no inherent problem with it.
Thing is, I no longer trust Miller to turn out a good story.

it all depends. if he has Batman actually find Bin Laden and take him down then it could be good. but why would Batman go after him? he would have had to bomb Gotham or something of that sort. it'll be 50/50.

But April 1st is still months away!? Seriously, is this for real!? The very idea is completely Lame IMHO. Batman has often been placed in stories reflecting or related to topical subjects etc. to provide comentary or to inform on such contemporary topics as Gang and Gun violence, Child abuse, land mine hazzards Etc. but even the very best of these type stories have never been "great" and most all are so "forced" their tough to really accept. This particular idea (especially if using actual names and places etc.) is just too much to swallow and "corny", not to mention possibly insulting to those truly involved in the matter? Bats taking on terrorits is one thing if made plausible and done "natural" to his character, but would be a hard sell in any light for me, and Miller would be last person I would believe could pull it off... Then again, could be pretty funny seeing Bats back handing Binny in the batmobile! "IM THE GOD DAMNED INFIDEL!"

On that Holy Terror, Batman book. I have a feelign on the bottom of my throat that once it comes out, like Reagan before it, Bush or someone at Washington will hold it up and say "Even BATMAN knows whose our enemies and how to fight them!!!!"

I'm intrigued by the idea of a superhero fighting a real life threat. I, like most of us here, were not around during WWII and only saw or read the books in a post -war environment. So, the meaning was different for us opposed to kids reading these books in real-time. If anything the book will probably inspire more patriotism and of course bring more readers to DC Not being a fan of P.C. I think its great for DC to take a chance like this and if done properly, this book shouldn't offend anyone but terrorists. Of course that's just my opinion... I could be wrong

Does anyone else have an opinion on this book?
Also, from what I've heard, this may actually be put into Batman's regular continuity between Year One and The Long Halloween.

Very interesting idea.... my first reaction is that its horrible. I like Miller's batman work and his porttayel is one of my favorites, but Bin Laden? Could work.. may be. I think miller should stick to Batman and his universe instead of potentially making batman the laughing stalk of all superheroes. If he wants to do terroists, do Ras Al Guhl, reinvent him in a Bin Laden type way, but bringing a real life terrorist is very risky.

[shadow=purple,left,300]This is a terrible idea. One of the main purposes which most comic books still hold is to escape reality. In today's political world, we are constantly reminded of the threat of terrorism and Al-Qaeda. Something tells me this would continue to pummell the situation into our minds, and it would also take the lives of those who died in any Al-Qaeda attack in vain. Knowing Frank Miller's style, it would probably be extremely abrasive, and, as a result, utterly offensive.[/shadow]

While I agree that it is a bad idea, it has been done in the past. Anyone remember Wonder Woman fighting Nazi's?
