WONDER WOMAN: ONCE AND FUTURE STORY
"There are so many reasons why women stay in abusive relationships. Maybe she feels sorry for him, or thinks she can help. Or maybe he really has her convinced it's all her fault!"
STORY:
Taking place half and half of past and modern times, Diana experiences what and why of spoual abuse.
REVIEW:
For Women everywhere, today in the modern world isn't safe for them. If not in the past where they were mostly slaves, today women, young or old, are either raped or murdered. But the common one is spousal abuse. The people who did this to them are their husbands or boyfriends. But the question is in cases like this; why do they still stay with them?
I've seen Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and that show happens to be great on what happens in the real world of these crimes and what happens to do their before and after the crime. This crime is well known that maybe as a learning tool for kids, DC did a book on spousal abuse using the first female superhero and a symbol for women in many ways: WOnder Woman.
I knew about this story for a while and then once I saw it in a time where I didn't get any Wonder Woman books, I decided to get it. After I read it, it, I got the same feeling I get after watching episodes of SVU.
This book is important on this issue of crime in the real world. I don't know if this was DC's intention as a learning book but it can be easily. As stated above; the line from the book and on the back of it is:
"There are so many reasons why women stay in abusive relationships. Maybe she feels sorry for him, or thinks she can help. Or maybe he really has her convinced it's all her fault!"
The three possibilites are explored in the past and present stories. The abusive men in both time points are the type of people you just wish our female hero to beat the crap of. What was it like for women back then and what is it like now are shown very right. Wonder Woman wants to show the abuser a lesson and questions why women would still stay when the kind of men those are. [thats where the line comes in].
This learning book on the issue also has lessons too. I love strong women and I don't want to be this kind of people who would beat women up just to "be the man". Alot of people, even youngsters who will soon learn the subject, should read this. I believe also alot of feminist groups and even the women in shows like SVU should read this book and not only use it but thank Trina Robbins; a Colleen Doran, Jackson Guice including DC who did this book.
RATING: 9/10
Now in case you ask: I did this review because not only was this book important but you may call this a precusor to the future Wonder Woman Vol. 3 reviews I will do. I love the character and this book had to go first.
