[glow=green,2,300]Hey guys I am an avid comic reader mainly in the Ultimate and 616 Marvel but not much D.C. (I find it too cartoony or othewise confusing), although I have had Hush since it came out and I loved it. Do you have a suggestion for a guy that knows the history decently (mainly dorling Kindersly and wikipedia). Maybe something directly after Hush. Batman was the bomb in hush.[/glow]
[glow=blue,2,300]hush like a mo' #&@%!$
P.S.k.s. rules!
P.S.S. Jeph loeb and Jim lee are genius![/glow]

Most DC comics started new stories last month, perfect place to jump on for someone new to comics. You will need to know almost nothing of what has happened the last few years to be able to join along.

It would help if you had a more specific set of criteria you wanted to see. You said something about DC being usually too cartoony for you; well, there are plenty of dark and grim stories in the Batman history. I assume you've read the classic Long Halloween by Loeb and Sale?
Not much great has happened after Hush. There was the ugly War Games/Crimes crossover event which was mostly Batman being an arrogant jerk and refusing to play nice with anyone. Other than that the only event I can remember of note post-Hush was Death and the Maidens, which was about Ra's Al Ghul and his family.
So you could go along with what vishman said and start with the new OYL storyline, or go back a bit further and read some Bat classics.

I recommend The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and Catwoman When In Rome. It is essentially a continuing story in all three books by Loeb and Sale. The Long Halloween is suppose to occur a little while after Batman Year One by Frank Miller.

Here are my recommendations for you:
The Long Halloween Dark Victory Haunted Knight
And since you're starting to get back into the comics, I suggest starting with the Batman OYL storyline. It started last month. You can read about it in the BATMAN: FACE THE FACE thread. You should like it. It has Harvey Dent turning back into Two-Face.
Also, there's a brand new start for the Dynamic Duo in All Star Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder. It's written by Frank Miller and drawn by Jim Lee. And believe, your dark side would get a kick out of the new Batman.
And to answer question, yes, Talia does become her sister's slave in Death and the Maidens.

That's your opinion crazyhatter. Let's let TWOFACED decide what he thinks of the book.
