I have found recently that i'm really developing an interest in Martian Manhunter as a character. So i though i would ask you guys who get infinitely more access to Comics than myself if they can recommend any good MM stories/Comics/TPBs for me to learn more about this character or just enjoy a good adventure. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge, there really isn't a MM trade out there. MM had his own series - it wasn't really that good, so it hasn't been collected. He has appeared in numberous JLA trades, but that's probably not what you're looking for. The best resource I can point you both to would be here. It's a very comprehensive history of MM. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

That is a toughie. Never was a fan but have become one over recent years. IMO it wouldnt seem as though many others were either due to the lack of material in general? At any rate, outside of the animated JL, my appreciation for ole J'onn came through the initial first few arcs of the latest JLA comic. The first couple story arcs were awesome in general IMO but also as I recall really spotlighted and explored MM. Like I said, I was never a fan of him untill those books and then the toon.

I'm actually excited to check out his new stand alone series. I'm going to pick up that DCU brave new world book for $1 at the end of the month and check out the preview. If you want I'll scan it and email it to you Andy, since I doubt you guys will get it there right away. Lets just say that MM will get some more spotlight in media this next year!

Going back to his own series from years back I really enjoyed how they had J'onn be other super heroes in the past before revealing himself as the MM. Wasn't he also Bloodwynd?

That's great news thanks Matt,i'll be keen to see how it goes. It's good to see i'm not alone on my liking of this character,he just exudes a Charismatic style that's very appealing and needs more attention. I guess i enjoy the fact that he's such an honorable character and yet the definition of a Loner at the same time. His powers are enough to rival the most powerful of characters in the DCU yet he's so vulnerable at the same time both physically and Psychologically. And let's face it,any character that Batman truly respects has gotta be pretty special. From Alex Ross' portrayals to the JL Cartoon it's all good to me and i really cannot get enough of him these days. Thanks for you help and opinions all,i look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.

As far as MM trades go,the only one I can think of is JLA:Year One.While not exclusively a MM trade,he does play a pretty big role in it.

Thanks for that link Matt, something to look forward to there.Looks like it's to be quite an intriguing story.Good sugestion too LBH,i know there's not much in stand-alone stories but a JLA story that he's heavily involved in is a great alternative.

Actually I'd disagree with a comment above, the Martian Manhunter series was actually very good reading (in my opinion anyway) and to this day I'd say that many would consider John Ostrander's work on this series to be the definitive J'onn Jonnz (though you can't dismiss how cool he was on Justice League toon either, which has probably boosted his popularity more than anything else in recent years). the book ran for 36 issues (plus a #0 issue and a DC #1,000,000 issue, and two annuals) between 1998 and 2001 and is well worth a look if you ever come across a run of it. Outside of that the only Martian Manhunter-centric releases I can think of are the late 80's 4-issue miniseries by J.M. DeMatteis (which I haven't read in way too many years to be able to judge), the 3-issue prestige format release Martian Manhunter: American Secrets from the early nineties (which I remember being pretty good), and a 1996 one shot Martian Manhunter Special (which I haven't read). J'onn's a great character with a lot of potential for interesting storytelling, I'm looking forward to his new series. Sev.

What do you guys think about a MM movie? I really hope they get around to J'onn. The only problem is that he doesn't have that many villains. He has the White Martians, but I don't think the studio would approve them due to some racial undertones.

MM movie? I guess it would work, but only under vast imagination. Someone like TIm Burton.
