The Dark Knight. Batman versus the Joker. BIG, HUGE. This has to be an event. WB and Nolan brought back some respectability and maturity to the Batman movie franchise, so why not focus on some more marketing. What do you, as a Batman collector, like to see as far as merchnadise and tie ins?
Personally, one thing Id love to see again, is fast food tie ins. I loved the cups. I also got a kick out of going into these places and seeing posetsr and signs all over. Also, the regular release of toys is to be expected, but I want a first wave of standard versions. I dont want to have to wait for wave 3 or 4 to get a movie accurate Joker. Id like to see retailers get into a unified release, with some type of in store events. Like what was suppose to happen with Begins. I want the hype back. It kind of makes you feel like you are a part of something.

It kind of makes you feel like you are a part of something. I'm kind of on the fence regarding this topic. I also remember the excitement of 1989, but I'm not sure that can be recaptured. Attempts to recreate that feeling for the subsequent Bat-films of the 90s left me a little sour, and that's even before I actually saw the films. With sources like LOG, BOF, SHH and many others around now, it's hard to manage and shape the public perception and anticipation for a film like this - it's so susceptible to overkill. I think that the way WB handled Batman Begins was just about perfect. I do agree that basic action figures should be out first, with a coordinated release, but hold off on the other "culture clutter" merch (lunchboxes, scooters, lava lamps) until the film is out. I know that many members of this forum love the fast food tie-ins, but I hope TDK avoids that route, as Begins did. To me, those connections simply lower the prestige of a film, and all that stuff just adds to the overall perception of the public that comic book films are not for adults - a perception that I would like to see change. I do love the books, art, soundtracks and other items that reinforce the creative brilliance behind a film like this.

I loved the Bat-hype of '89!! having said that, I would love to see unusual promotions. Here's an idea, how about a set of adult Batman footy pajamas with velcro attached cape !!!

I think there are some people in WB who think they under promoted Batman Begins so I expect we will see a bit more merchandise. There was tons of stuff I remember collecting with the first Batman movie came out. (I still have most of it)
I suspect that next year, I will walk into a Walmart and see giant Batman Begins posters and Batman this and that along with the Joker. Just like how I am seeing Spiderman 3 stuff all over.
I think TDK will probably be a bigger movie now that Batman recovered in the movies and we are dealing with the Joker.

I think that the marketing for Begins wasn't as in your face as it was for previous movies. I would like to see a little more this time around. I also love going into stores and seeing the huge displays and Batman symbols around, it's just a great thing to see! Especially with the Joker being in this film, it's got to be big. I really hope that since Begins was so successful, the hype for TDK will be incredible.

I also love the fast food cups idea. They don't do that nearly enough anymore. I'm looking forward to TONS of joker stuff--maybe a Medicom RAH Joker--that would be sweet.
Do you think the (probably) violent nature of the movie will somewhat limit what toys we see?

I dont think so. I believe the toy and licensing companies will simply tone down the appearance of some of the characters to make them more friendly for consumer use. The violence factor I dont think will matter much, there has always been a level of that in the bat films.

If it's anything like that, we might get our fast food cups

batman forever had fast food cups too i still have some of the mcdonalds glass ones the violence factor won't effect toys think of movies like spawn, or aliens violent movies with toys maybe it will effect the toys in seeing a more realistic (or at least movie accurate) figures due to the violence and possibly older audience appeal

Not being old enough to have been caught in the Bat-hype of 89, I hope they go all out with this one. Fast food tie in's would be great, I've still got some stuff from McDonald's from Returns & Forever, & I love it. They really need to do better with the figures though. They should go almost to the level of Star Wars, (not that small though) with every major character having atleast 1 figure, plus the lesser known characters as well. (hopefull we don't get Thug #5, Opera goer #87, & Screaming woman #4, like they did with Star Wars) (although a Joe Chill, with super awesome parent murdering action would be hilarious ;D, I'm morbid, I know)

I too, would love to see a fast food tie in of some sort. Perhaps more of a presence in the cereal aisles of our local grocery stores as well. ( Heck, add some more food products to that, just nothing too overwhelming like the Spiderman 3 onslaught of this summer.)
