BATMAN LEGO VIDEOGAME COMING IN 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Videogame players will have another title to place beside their copies of Lego STar Wars games. According to Variety, Warner Bros. has signed to produce a Lego Batman videogame, to be developed by TT Games, which also developed Lego Star Wars.
According to the trade, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will fully finance and publish the game itself, as well as handle all distribution in North America.
The game will follow the Lego Star Wars model, that is, all the characters and sets will be constructed of Lego pieces. More than likely, the games will follow in the successful footsteps of the two Lego Star Wars installments, which have sold several millions of copies, not only to the younger set, but also to adult gamers, due to the games’ charm, gameplay, and sense of humor.
A 2008 release is planned, more than likely in time with the release of The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, which is due out on July 18, 2008.
Lego currently has a license to produce Batman toys and playsets made from Legos, and is on its second wave of figures and sets.
Official Press Release
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games will bring LEGO® BATMAN™: THE VIDEOGAME to next-generation and current generation platforms and the PC in 2008 with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment serving as the game’s North American publisher, including all sales and distribution functions.
In LEGO BATMAN: THE VIDEOGAME, TT Games brings the world of DC Comics’ Caped Crusader to life in an entirely new way. Players can explore a richly interactive LEGO Gotham City as Batman and Robin, capturing infamous villains – and even take control of the villains themselves.
“Batman spans several generations as one of the most popular DC Super Heroes, and LEGO BATMAN will appeal to several generations of gamers who grew up idolizing the Dark Knight and playing with LEGO toys,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Development and Production, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Working with TT Games, we are confident they will continue their LEGO games’ success with this title, and we will expand our publishing endeavors with the introduction of the LEGO BATMAN franchise.”
“We’re sure our fans will be excited to know that we have the same fantastic team at Traveller’s Tales responsible for LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Star Wars II working on LEGO BATMAN,” said Tom Stone, Director of TT Games Publishing.
“There’s a special magic to the LEGO incarnation of Batman that makes him accessible to a younger generation of his fans," said Paul Levitz, President, DC Comics. “We look forward to the videogame version extending this fantasy.”
The LEGO BATMAN: THE VIDEOGAME story unfolds with Batman’s greatest foes escaping from Arkham Asylum and creating mayhem throughout Gotham City. Tracking criminals, including The Joker and The Penguin, players will utilize Batman’s gadgets as well as build and operate fantastic vehicles in one or two player cooperative gameplay.

is nightwing going to be in the game? you only need to post your questions once, if you want to fix mispelled words then click modify and you can edit your post. and yes i believe he's in the game. i dont think he's playable in the campaign though, but he might be online in multiplayer.

the following 3 characters have been officially announced and shown in the game:
- Nightwing - Clayface (Basil Karlo) - Bane
Nightwing is an ally, it hasnt been announced if he's playable though, Clayface and Bane are each bosses. i've heard that Clayface is going to be playable online in multiplayer.

Sweet! So who does this leave? Let's see:
Heroes: Lucius Fox Alfred Azrael Batgirl
Villains: Black Mask Firefly Ventriloquist/Scarface Ra's Al Ghul
I'd say, if they can just get those 7 characters into the game, this'll be perfect character-wise.

some new info, Alfred is in the game, and you can play as the villains in story mode once you beat the game. you get to play as the boss of that level in their level and you fight against Batman and Robin. they havent said how many villains are playable and how many levels yet though. and there will be 2 Robins to play as, Tim Drake and Dick Grayson. so far the only villains that are known that you can play as in story mode are Clayface and Mr. Freeze.

there is no online co-op for any system, but the Xbox 360 version will have downloadable content, which i'm assuming is in the form of additional playable characters like they did for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. the demo for this game will be released some time in August and the game itself some time in September. in the demo there will be 3 playable levels, 1 where you play as Batman and Robin, 1 where you play as Joker and Harley Quinn and fight James Gordon, and the third will let you play as Mr. Freeze and Riddler in some sort of chase mission.

I have this game reserved at the local Gamestop and am looking forward to it. It looks like it's going to be a fun game but I still wish they would take another crack at a comic book version type game like Dark Tomorrow. Considering the advancements in games and 3d modeling, I would love to see a game like this come out sometime in the near future.
