it'll work if it's MK vs. DC Villains and it needs fatalities. Superboy-Prime could rip opponents apart like he did to Charaxes. Parallax could do anything as a fatality especially if it's the Kyle Rayner version. Lady Shiva needs to be in it, she just fits perfect. but some characters are just way too powerful. we'll have to wait and see.

It is confirmed. MORTAL KOMBAT VS. DC DETAILS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Lucas Siegel
Scorpion vs. Batman. Sub-Zero vs. Superman. A new twisted fanfic? Nosiree, it’s the new Mortal Kombat! Announced yesterday at Midway Gamer’s Day in Las Vegas, NV, videogame mainstay Midway Games has teamed up with DC Comics to bring the next installment of Mortal Kombat some new, old characters. The game has already been in development for several months, and rumored as far back as September, 2007.
Fans across gaming and comics messageboards have been skeptical, to say the least. One concern is power levels, as most MK characters are slightly augmented humans (at most), while the DC characters are, well, super-powered. The other main concern is what rating the company would be seeking for their endeavor. Traditionally, Mortal Kombat games have been rated M for Mature in the U.S., which means they are recommended for players 17 and older. No word yet on whether the game will feature the fatalities and brutal moves the series is known for. Either way, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is, in fact, on the way.
There will be two different stories, one told from the side of MK, one from the side of DC, where each universe is invaded by the opposite universe’s characters. Names familiar to comic fans, Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray are writing the story to help lend the proper voices to the DC Characters. These stories will be told in a new version of the traditional single player campaign.
The story will be used to balance the fights more evenly, and will do so using established mythology. For instance, the story will feature magic factors, to weaken Superman against a character like Sub-Zero.
The combination of “popularity and style of fighting” was used to choose which characters were in the game, according to series head Ed Boon. Batman, Superman, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion are the first confirmed characters, with more to come in the coming months leading up to the game’s release. Right now the release is noted as this fall, and the game will be coming out for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.
One of the new features for the game includes a new fighting mechanic, including zoom-ins and fighting while falling from one level of the stage to the next. More information about the game will be released at www.worldscollide.com.Oh boy.

it just doesnt make any sense. it should be only the martial arts characters of the DCU, Batman, Richard Dragon, Lady Shiva, Conner Hawke, The Question, Bronze Tiger, etc. i cant see how Superman can fit in this game. in the MK games each fighter has 2 different martial arts styles and a weapon style. i really cant picture Superman doing kung fu. it'll be funny to see, but it just doesnt make any sense.

Wow! I didn't see that one coming...The idea is indeed crazy, but who knows, it might turn out good... Too bad I won't be able to play it.

The first trailer from it looks really cool, I am looking forward to this game and it should be alot of fun.
And I get why Superman is in it, for marketing and a well known character from the DC Universe.
But you guys are right Supes doesn't belong in a game like this. I hope that Bronze Tiger makes it into the game, and Nightwing. Would be cool to see The Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)

All to compete with the Marvel vs Capcom games. This is one really weird crossover. If I had a ps3, I'd think about it.

I love Mortal Kombat and I love DC. It seems really weird to put them together, but that is what people said about Kingdom Hearts. I hate to see MK resort to gimmicks like this though. Time will tell.

Time will tell. well you are right about that, time will tell. and kingdom hearts is an amazing game but with that one i never thought it was weird, same with capcom vs. marvel but the brutality of mk and the HEROES of DC don't mix.

I have no problem with this and Im really kinda surprised by how many seem to? all diehard Mortal Kombat fans have a problem with this because they are removng some fatalities and limiting the gore. DC only made this agreement under those terms. so we wont be able to use Scorpion's fatality to Superman, as DC didnt want Superman's head and spine ripped from his body. this is basically just a money grabber for both companies and the game itself wont play as it should. this actually hurts Midway more than DC, as the game doesnt seem like it's going to deliver as a next gen MK game should, which will hurt future sales and alienate the main consumers that buy their games. DC wanted help from an established company and franchise to try and sell games, something they havent been able to do well, and something that their main competition, Marvel, has been able to do. the graphics will be great, as almost all next gen games have good graphics and backgrounds. dont expect the gameplay to follow suit though. it also seems like they are changing the core fight engine that they used in the last 4 MK games that was great. why they're not using that engine i'll never understand, but the production time has been quick and it seems to me that they are also trying to rush this game out, which will of coarse lead to more problems.

I really like the designs here, especially the batcave. I love how the batcave was made huge so ti could be a battle arena. Really like the Gotham City one to. Although not so sure about Batman's suit. It just looks weird, the basic unitard look with lines drawn on it to look more like armor. It just looks weird.

a new trailer was shown at E3. also, expect this game's release date to either get jumped up or pushed back, mostly likely the latter, as nothing coming out the same month as Gears of War 2 is going to sell well initially. Midway may wait until right before christmas, or at least a month after Gears comes out.

apparently, they've decided to change how the fighting will occur. they've decided to take out the 3 fighting styles system that has been in the past 4 MK games and was the greatest thing to happen to the franchise. there will now only be one style per fighter, and there also will be no Konquest mode. so it's looking like this is basically just a DC fighting game featured some MK characters. this cant be viewed as a MK game, especially since they've tamed the Fatalities and for certain characters, namely Batman and Superman, certain moves will not be able to be performed against them.

www.newsarama.com/games/080725-comiccon-dcu-mortal-kombat.htmlSDCC '08 - Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Panel By Seth Robison posted: 25 July 2008 05:49 pm ETBuzz up! del.icio.us Text Size: Midway games brought footage, talent, and a few surprises for the fans of two universes Friday morning at Comic-Con International in San Diego for panel focused on the upcoming [Fall 2008] Mortal Combat vs. DC Universe videogame for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Introduced first from the Mortal Kombat side was series co-creator Ed Boon, and from DC, writer Jimmy Palmiotti (Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters). Boon first mentioned that for those keeping track this new game was number eight in the series, dating back to 1992 and the product of a ten-year effort to crossover the Mortal Kombat franchise with another property. When Midway’s marketing department explored the possibility of working with DC, Boon jumped at the chance, and he was teamed up with Palmiotti to make sure the game’s two universes “mesh.” At that point, the preview video was ready and clips of fights in progress were shown. Superman battled Sub-Zero in a ruined Metropolis, slowing the icy warrior with his freeze breath. Batman battled Scorpion in hell, trading Batarangs and grappling spears. Catwoman used her agility to get in a few bloody scratches on Shang Tsung. Finally, the Flash darted around Soyna, leaving her spinning and dazed before running her off a cliff, the pair trading blows all the way down before the Flash got the upper hand and whipped his opponent into the ground, creating a small crater. Each brutal blow drew “oooohhhs” from the crowd, who also cheered when Superman cut loose with his heat vision, and when Flash delivered several attacks at his trademark speed. Eagle-eyed views could also notice that in addition to multi-level stages, real time damage to characters costumes were inflicted, for example Superman’s cape became tattered and Scorpion’s costume was burned where it was struck with Heat Vision. When the lights came back up, the first thing Boon mentioned was the question that was on everyone’s mind, if you play as Superman, how could you lose? He then reminded audience of the Man of Steel’s non-mineral related weakness: Magic. Palmiotti then said that the game’s story would explain that when the magic-heavy MK universe merged with the DCU, it brought Superman closer down to earth, but didn’t rob him entirely of his powers. Boon then described some of the special features in the new game, a close combat system that replaces automatic throws where the camera zooms in on the fighters and the players engage in an ‘Active-Time’ mini-game to deliver or block damage. A similar mechanic is involved when one player knocks another down to lower level of the stage. The players exchange blows, trying to get the upper hand to deliver a powerful final attack. Boon then gave the announced roster to date, on the DC side: Batman, Superman, Flash, Catwoman, and Shazam. And on the MK side, Sub Zero, Sonya, Shang Tsung and Liu Kang. For San Diego, however, he was ready to announce four more. On the MK side, Jax, and Kitana, and to the whoops and hollers of fans in attendance, DC’s Green Lantern (image shown looked like Hal Jordan) and the Joker. After announcing that a compilation of the last three Mortal Kombat games for PS2 (Deception, Shaolin Monks, and Armageddon) will be out for that system soon for $29.99, and that the special edition of MK vs. DC will included a prequel comic with work by MK co-founder John Tobias, the floor was opened to questions. Who are the Bosses in the game? Can it be Doomsday? Boon can’t say, except that it will be “big” It’s rated T, was that hard to do for a MK game? Boon says no one wants to see Superman’s head getting ripped off, or him ripping any heads off (some in the crowd disagree). The DC Heroes will deliver Brutalities (punishing, but non-lethal beat-downs) while all the MK characters and the DC Villains will be able to use Fatalities. Is there something the DC wouldn’t let you do? Palmiotti replied that DC was letting them get away with a lot, and that “it’s pretty dame brutal” Is there a mini-game like Motor Kombat? Boon, no, all the focus is on the story mode, which will feature chapters in which players will be each character for a short time. There will be a separate MK and DC sides to the storyline. Tosty Guy? Boon says it’s possible. One fan wants Boon to do the Scorpion voice, but he wasn’t up for it. Character exclusives to the individual consoles? Boon says no, but there will be downloadable content. Environmental based Fatalities? Boon notes that the T rating and the non-lethal nature of the heroes preclude that. Another fan asked about Smoke or Noob Saibot, but they probably won’t be in it. Any chance for a comic book series? Palmiotti replies that it’s a possibility depending on how the game sells. A fan noted that there were no combo counts displayed during the demo video, are there going to be combos? Boon replied that there would be, but no button sequence combos only real times ones in the more 2D MK vs. DC. Cutscenes and free roaming? Palmiotti describes that in each chapter the character that player's play is controlling at that time will interact with others from both universes to propel the story. Boon was asked about the “K” in combat. He told the story of the short development of the original MK game and how the title was a collaborative effort, not a very good story, Palmiotti joked he’s had almost 20 years to come up with a better one. One fan pleaded that if Aquaman makes the cut, will they treat him with respect? The audience laughs and Boon asked back, “What does Aquaman eat?” but wouldn't confirm his inclusion. A Wii version? No only PS3 and Xbox 360 MK vs Street Fighter (or vs. Marvel). Boon says he wanted to do all of them, but there are a lot of creative control difficulties trying to get them all to work together. Any DC heroes or villains you couldn’t get? Boon said they were open, but he didn’t want it to get silly, so no Bat-mite or Mr. Mxyzptlk.

I'm about to lose man points here but... I really don't like Catwoman's look. I guess I'm just not a fan of the "so much cleavage you can't even see it" look.
