We're sittin' down with the man that played the Joker in Batman: Dead End. This fan flick made a splash at the San Diego Comic Con 2003...and kept fans buzzing all summer!
---------------------
LoG: Were you a Batman fan before you were asked to be in Dead End?
Andrew Koenig: As much as the next person. I was Batman a couple of times for Halloween when I was a kid. I had this awesome hard rubber half mask that was suspended with a rubberband. This was around 1975. If you know where I could find one again, let me know. And of course along with other MEGO figures, I had the Batman with removable cowl and blue nose. And corgi batmobile. And bat copter. And speed boat with trailer. Okay, yeah, I guess I was a fan.
LoG: How long did it take to get into the Joker make-up / costume each day?
Andrew Koenig: I think about four hours. But it was the cold studio that made the process difficult. Brrrr.
LoG: What was it like to become one of the most well known and popular comic villians in the world?
Andrew Koenig: I wasn't gauging it in terms of how well known the character is. I just looked at it from the perspective of how fun it was to play someone crazy and wear prosthetic make-up.
LoG: Did you enjoy playing the Joker? Would you reprise the role if asked?
Andrew Koenig: Of course. And, of course.
LoG: Do you have a favorite bat-villian?
Andrew Koenig: Robin. [the LoG is taking this as sarcasm ]
LoG: Did you draw upon any comics, cartoons or films for the developement of your role?
Andrew Koenig: I reached into my comic collection and pulled out Killing Joke and World's Finest. I based my audition more on the Joker of the latter, but Sandy wanted darker, and away I went. I like Joker kooky and I like him sadistic. So either interpretation worked for me.
LoG: What projects are you currently working on?
Andrew Koenig: I'm writing, making short films and performing improvisational comedy at the Empty Stage Theater in West L.A. every Friday night.
LoG: Have roles like Boner Stabone on the hit 80's show 'Growing Pains' helped or hurt your career, as a whole?
Andrew Koenig: Hard to gauge. I left the show to avoid being typecast, but I may have been too late. I'm essentially having to start over. That's why I do projects like Dead End.

Thanks to Mr. Koenig for taking time to talk with the Legions of Gotham!
