[glow=red,2,300] June 21, 2006 - Monday, DC Comics revealed its September solicitations, which included the highly anticipated Absolute DC: The New Frontier HC. Collecting the complete critically acclaimed JLA origin in one volume for the first time ever, news of the hardcover was a dream come true for fans. Now they have something else to eagerly anticipate.
In an interview with World's Finest, Stan Berkowitz revealed his next project would be an animated version of Darwyn Cooke's Frontier:
"At the moment, I'm writing a direct-to-video animated adaptation of Darwyn Cooke's "New Frontier" epic. It will be feature length, rated PG-13 and Bruce [Timm] will be Executive Producer. So far, it's been nothing but fun... a chance for me to revisit my youth and the Starro era."
Berkowitz has written episodes for Justice League Unlimited and Batman Beyond. Bruce Timm is one half of the duo responsible for Batman: The Animated Series, which is largely responsible for the resurgence of American-made animated television shows.
Set in the 1950s, The New Frontier tells the origins of the Justice League, putting a Cold World twist on DC's famed mythos. , but a late 2007 release seems likely.

[glow=red,2,300] It would be very cool if the JLU voice actors returned to voice these versions of the characters ,especially Conroy! [/glow]

See I'm on the fence... if it's not in "DCAU" continuity, style, or direction... then I think it would be best to use new/dif cast. On the other hand, nobody does it better and it would be an unholy injustice for the majority of the original cast (such as Conroy) not to reprise their roles again! This project certainly has potential either way. Especially with Timm at the helm!

Man I CANT WAIT! These projects and their direction could possibly be everything we (at least I) have ever hoped for!? I'm dying to learn more. I'm curious just how absolute the tramslations will be? No doubt they will require serious editing (if for no other reason than time constraints), but how much actual liberty can or will be taken with the overall stories? Some IMO would/could be greatly improved with some artistic/dramatic "tweeking". While others should be in near total "lockstep" with their comic inspirations (such as Kingdom Come imo). I also wonder what kind of criteria we have here? Is the concept of DTV's strictly geared for and limited to direct translations of previous comic tales? Or does near anything go? Like brand new original material... for example, any chance this could reopen the doors for "ASYLUM" seeing the light of day! and or would a future Timmverse DCAU continuity story fall under this new "banner"? Man oh Man the posabilities! Im also curious about past "politics" (Bat-embargo springs to mind lol). Meaning, have such limitations been lifted!? Can Robin and the Titans Actually acknowledge the existance of Batman!? Can New Frontier actually use Aquaman (or Green Arrow as the case may be now)!? Can these interpretations FINALLY be truly UNLIMITED!? Jeez Lueez I'm excited!

I have a video of Paul Levitz's speach about the DTV, I'll try and get a link up to it soon. In the mean time this is a quick summary.
The idea is to recreate comic book storylines in the animated world, with the artists of the comic overlooking the movie and not having it be a watered down kids movie.
The New Frontier is only one of three titles DC annouced at SDCC. The other two are the Death of Superman, and a Teen Titans (again IN THE COMIC'S STYLE) film.

This movie is simply outstanding top to bottom. The only real "flaw" is the forced limited runtime. Its effect on the whole is quite unfortunate. As a result, what was awesome couldve been an all around masterpiece IMO. The only other thing I can complain about is that we're not getting any more!?!

this film was indeed absolutely awesome, i love every minute, shame they did'nt keep the scene with john jones in the cinema, but it was'nt tht crucial to the story anyway

Yeah, none of the cut subplots or elements such as John Henry, The Challengers, Suicide Squad, the JSA, or even the Losers / Dinosaur island were cruicial overall. Most were adequately intergrated as is IMO. What was needed most was some more time to let the more important character moments breath naturally and be everything they couldve been. More time to flesh out and emphasize the heart of the primarly characters and the story itself. Hal and Flash's arcs most of all needed more detail. Superman couldve benfitted from a bit more definition here too.
