REVIEW:
As we take out last break from the Legion arc, since we're geared up for the finale, we're given one last thing to be resolved before we sign off entirely from the show: the love triangle between John, Shayera & Vixen.
Ever since the series finale to Justice League with "Starcrossed", John and Hawkgirl's relationship has been rocky. And once she reappeared in JLU, and John was with Vixen, the triangle started to form. While it could be agrued that Vixen isn't that bad at all, and Shayera might be better with Hawkman since it would be like the comic versions, fans want to see them back together. Will they?
It begins when Green Lantern chases after a villian named; Gentlemen Ghost. Hawkman helps him defeat the villian and they go their seperate ways. While Shayera is on his mind, and Vixen going to a model shoot, John is attacked by Shadow Thief and he takes John away. Now in a museum, its up to Hawkman, Shayera, Vixen, and John Stewart to escape from Shadow Theif's plans.
Shayera and Vixen's, whose name is Morei, relationship is like this: they like each other, but once the "man" is duscussed, they talk about the game to be the one with him and the fun idea to kill the other to do that. That's cute.
Now I don't really care for Shadow Thief, I didn't know about him until he appeared in "Shadow of the Hawk", but for Hawkman, what's wrong with him? I mean Shayera holds the villian down so Hawkman can finally defeat him. But what does he do? He says how much Shayera was like. What the hell? They might have worked in the '40s/'50s, but not now. I mean he fights good and a good character, for something like this; he's an idiot.
The plan Shadow Thief had was complex at first, but as the episode continued it began to make sense. Let me try to explain with no spoilers: Shadow Thief has Hawkman, Shayera, and John touch a thanagarian device that makes them see what happened to the past versions of Hawkman and Hawkgirl in Egypt. It seemed that their relationship was rocky and might've not to last any longer. Then Hawkgirl met one of their soliders; the past version of John Stewart and they fell in love.
Long story short: they were murdered and now the murderer's spirit, not saying whose, in pulling strings for Hawkamn and GL to kill one another.
This kinda fuels more into what it is now between Green Lantern and Shayera. And what it means for them now and in the future. And so that there's no arguing on this and what was shown in the "Once and Future Thing" Pt. 2, here's what happens at the end:
.
CAUTION
..
SPOILERS!
....
John finally reveals to Shayera about whom he met in the future: their son Warhawk. Even as Shayera believes this means they must be together, John doesn't want to be a puppet of destiny and chooses to work out their future but has decided to stay with Vixen.
With that in mind, Shayera asks Batman about their son.
The future is known to her, but the outcome is up in the air.

Overall, this was a serious and strong episode about Shayera and Green Lantern and their love and the hope of them together again. While the end of it might be sad, we all have seen Batman Beyond and know the answer from the two part "The Call" episdoe.
RATING: 8.7/10
Next up: The finale.
