I just posted this in the Mattel section. That's the one character I've been wishing for in the JL/JLU line since day one. Hopfully they'll make a nother one at some point down the road. But that head sculpt looks amazing! Too bad they already distroyed the mold. PJ

I just read the post on Julius' site and I nearly started to cry.....why...did...they....destroy...the....tool!? Sorry, I don't usually get this upset (*sob*), but that just isn't fair. I'm not a completest by any means...but it's Hal! Anyway, I do agree with the poster who said that it is a well deserved "thank you" to those people who helped bring about the JLU. After all without them, we...we...*sob* I WANT HAL!!!! *ahem* we wouldn't have any of the other great figs!

I think we should clarify a few things for readers here on LoG.
There was a Hal Jordan figure made by a Mattel executive in a limited edition of 100 pieces. It was given to people at Mattel and WB Animation for their dedication to the franchise. The packaging is Green and is signed by Bruce Timm. You can see images at ActionFigureInsider.com
The mold was broken, so he will not be released. Watch ebay if you're rich, otherwise join the legions of fuming mad fans, lol. I personally don't mind..because I don't think DC would let them make Hal..he's one of their golden boys..they like to keep him to DC Direct only. Hal brings in big money.

Now that I've had the time to think about it it's kinda cool that a Mattel exec went the distance to acknowledge the work that was done on the series. Besides, were getting an Alex Ross Hal in a few months anyway.
*Update* Check out this headline over at Toy News International :
"Mattel Screws Over Collectors For The Holidays With Exclusive JLU Hal Jordan Figure"
*Update # 2* They've changed the headline to read:
"Is Mattel Screwing Over Collectors For The Holidays With Exclusive JLU Hal Jordan Figure???"
A little more savvy on their part.
Well there's "responsible journalism" for ya! I wonder if fan reaction to the well meaning attempt at a Holiday thank you could result in Mattel reconsidering and creating the fig for the line?

I'd like Hal like anyone would but I think it's unfair to attack Mattel for doing something special for people -- people who have brought a lot of fun and joy to a lot of us.

it would be cool to have this but i dont think its worth getting real upset over. i just look at it as one of the "perks" of being involved in the industry. remember, if everything was mass released, then nothing would be rare or collectible.

Totally agree. It's like getting a promo figure from Toy Fair or a prototype - they're out there if you want to spend the time, energy and $$ to get them. I have a feeling that Mattel will look at this and find a way to get Hal made eventually - if the line goes long enough.

Oh, I imagine that if they get the chance they'll eventually do a real GL Corps ep, which would open the door for a fig. Meantime, I like John Stewart just fine.

I managed to get a hold of Toyfare editor Zack Oat and I asked him about what was his take on this. He told me he got in touch with some Mattel people and it turns out that this is an insider custom figure. They did it just for themselves.
It turns out that Mattel can't do a mass market Hal Jordan figure. It has something to do with licensing issues. It just looks like we are out of luck. I'm now over it. Still ticked off, but then it isn't the first time Mattel has done things like these.

"licensing issues"...LoL Jeezuz How the hell can you run a business or produce/manufacture a product when nobody owns or has the "right" to anything or everyone owns or has the "right" to everything!? Bob owns the rights to the color blue. We need Phil's permission to use that particular shade of orange. We own the character deadshot but steve in accounting owns the letter "D". Jerry has the rights to the four cubic feet of oxygen around the chair the artist sat and sculpted that figures left hand so we cant use him!? D.C./AOL/time/warner/Mattel/CN/anyone/everyone get it together! this "thirty seven chickens after one grain of corn approach is sickening and stupid and outrageous and infuriating! Sorry, once in a while even I have to vent!

Although I fumed in what can only be described as a muderous rage, over the destruction of the mold-what you said is spot on man. these folks have brought many a smile to our faces(and continue to do so)and deserve something very special for that-which this figure is

They can't even use Black Manta on the show for Pete's sake. DC's judgements on what character can be used, and for what seem totally random. This is why we can never have a Captain Atom, or Question figure, and why Bandai can't make a Nightwing toy. Don't even get me started on Blue Beetle... Don't blame Mattel, I'm sure they would love to make a mass market Hal figure, DC just won't let them.

it seems like quite a waste of the money the companies want to make to specially produce only 100 figures and in special packaging.. did that take the place of thier raises for the year??

I REALLY hate these stupid license issues. Its why we have no Aquaman(on the show),no Black Manta,no Question figure and now no Hal.Why not just sculpt a new Hal head, and release the figure as "Al-a generic green lantern".The fans would all know who it was,we'd all be happy, and the lawyers would be appeased. For that matter why not release a "A masked-undercover Bruce Wayne figure"-it wouldnt REALLY be the Question-just Bruce in a trenchcoat, mask, and fedora! After all, this is what they did on JLU with Ocean Master aka Black Manta.
