;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I now have the official news regarding the Filmation versions of Superman and Batman DVD releases. It is now official. According to www.tvshowsondvd.com, WB has announced the release date as well as prices and special features. The release date on both sets is in late June (probably the 26th). THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN: This is a 2 disc set that will only contain 36 of the 60 something cartoons made. I believe it will be the the first season and I assume it will not include Superboy. There will be a featurette called Superman in 66. The price is $26.99. THE NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN: This is a 2 disc set that will contain all 16 episodes. There will be not one but two episode commentaries made. And there will be a featurette called Dark Versus Light: Filmation and the Batman. The price is $26.99. I cannot wait. I am saving up my money and I will be among the first people to buy my all time favorite Batman series. One that I never thought would ever get released on DVD. Anyway, I thought I'd pass along the official news and if you want, you can check out the news at www.tvshowsondvd.comCheers.

THE LATEST NEWS: www.comciscontinuum.com has posted the formal and official announcement by Warner Home Video about the upcoming release of the New Adventures of Batman: The Complete Series. It basically describes the series, tells which episodes are on which discs and best of all, we know a little more about the special features. The featurette Dark Versus Light: Filmation and the Batman will be a series of interviews. Here's hoping that two of them were with Adam West and Burt Ward. The two episode commetaries will be done by Filmation Historian Michael Swannigan and Filmation Founder (the voices of BatMite, Clayface, and the BatComputer) Lou Scheimer. I definitely cannot wait!! These next few months will be a long wait. Oh well, maybe the Justice League Unlimited and Batman Beyond DVD sets released today will keep me occupied. Cheers.

I don't really remember much about the series, and I plan to get the DVDs regardless, but didn't the Filmation series suck? Maybe I'm just confusing it with SuperFriends.

I wouldn't really compare it to Superfriends, animation wise I thought the Batman series was alot better, and aside from a few dumb characters like Batmite, & Sweet Tooth, it was a pretty decent show for the time period, and you can't go wrong with Adam West voicing Batman and Burt Ward voicing Robin...

How dare you sir! the Filmation series was the business. One of my all time favs. Mind you yes, its late 70s camp..but man thats what I grew up on. Thats why I even watched BTAS and subsequent shows. My root love of the character goes back to the 60s show, filmation and superfriends!

Sorry to offend, Matt. I guess I like my Bats a little darker and harder edged. I DID say I planned on buying the DVDs regardless, if only to see what the fuss was about. Who knows, I may end up loving it--despite the inclusion of Bat-Mite and....(shudder) Sweet Tooth.

Its ok..I'm goofy about my vintage Bats but seriously, I recommend everyone giving this a fair whirl. Its no modern era Batman..but it represents something that hooked a lot of us growing up, and was a very necessary stage on ol' Bats' evolution.

I can't wait, but my memory of the Filmation stuff is sketchy. I'm certain I must have watched some shows, must've had Sat AM activities or something going on. Pre-VHS and it must've pissed me off as a kid who loved his Batman. I remember the earlier cartoons and SuperFriends much more. As a huge fan of the ABC show I can't wait to hear the voice talents of West & Ward.

That's actually understandable. Anybody who was born in the mid to late 70's and beyond would have either very little or no memory at all of this show because it was removed from the airwaves altogether in the fall of 1981. Anyone who was born in the early 70's or even late 60's would have better memories of this series. But back to what I was saying. After its run on NBC as Batman and the Super 7, this Batman series was pulled off the airwaves and was not seen again on ANY TV station ANYWHERE for about 20 years until 2001 on some select WB networks (It did not air where I was but some friends of mine saw it) who decided to air this series after abruptly cancelling Batman Beyond and I guess the New Adventures of Batman was considered a temporary filler if anything else. So anybody born let's say after 1975 or 1976 may find this series completely alien to them unless they have seen the campy lighthearted side of Batman. Cheers.

This is definitely my favorite cartoon Batman series of the 70's! I can't wait for the DVDs! In the meantime, for those who either don't remember it or haven't seen it before, you can go here: television.aol.com/in2tvon a side note, they also have the unaired Aquaman TV pilot !

Glad it's finally being released. I loved this show despite Bat-Mite. A bizarre thing I never noticed as a kid was that in the opening The Riddler was Red instead of Green, bizarre, but then again, that happened all the time in older cartoons.

Is filmation the same group that made the Super Powers series (the Justice League) in the 80's?

I picked up the DVD on Tuesday, been watching a couple episodes a day. I'm really enjoing it! It reminds me a lot of the TV Series, it's a great cartoon! I've never seen these before, so it's a great oppporunity for fans to be exposed to an animated Batman that was prior to 1992.

To answer Crazy Hatter's question first, no, Filmation produced the individual adventures of the DC Super Heroes plus the 2 Batman shows. It was Hanna Barbera who produced the SuperFriends and Super Powers Team in 1985. And to answer All Star Batman's topic. When it comes to vintage Super Heroes on DVD, Wal Mart is NOT the place to look. I made that mistake myself and had to drive an hour away from where I live to pick up my set along with the Filmation Superman. I got mine at Best Buy which turned out to be my Best Bet. I've almost finished viewing my set. Only the three episodes with Zarbor are left and like Matt, I will also post a review tomorrow as well. So far, I am loving every single second of this DVD set. It is the Holy Grail to my Bat Collection. The 1968 episodes are not on DVD yet and I am hoping they eventually will be so we can have every animated interpretation available. Cheers.

But the closest Best Buy near me is 30 mins away. I could've gone to Sam Goody but they closed it down where I live. Something tells me I'm going to have to go to TRU to get the new Batman DCSH figures too, which is also 30 mins away in the same town. My town sucks.

It sucks that Walmart does not have any "Retro-Bats"! I guess I'll have to order it online cause I don't think I have a Best Buy near me.

No, by "Retro-Bats" I meant old TV shows! You know since The New Adventures of Batman came out (which is "Retro", get it?) and you can't get the "Retro-Bat" TV shows at Wal-Mart! (But you can get everything else.)

You said it comes out in June, but June of what year? I got the DC Superheroes Filmation Cartoons and they were okay. The problem was they never used any villains from the comics. It was always a race from either outer space or deep underground.

If the Superman one has over twice as many episodes as the Batman one, why do they have the same number of discs, and why are they the same price?
