He means the license to characters outside the Batman/Superman families.

bw also mentions there might be a build a figure in the dc line to make a mongul or a brainiac and in the supes line we could see a steel figure in the superman wave.

Well, that sucks if they won't be able to add to the DC Universe in 2007. All I can say then is DCD had better step up and produce figures that are in scale with one another and made with better quality then they've been giving us as of late. PJ

It really doesn't bother me since my favorite DC characters conveniently enough are Batman and Superman!

I've been sitting here staring at the screen thinking of what to say 'cause I really want to reply to this but the words just won't come. All I keep thinking is how great it was that Mattel at least tried to pitch the DCU characters. Kudos to BW &co. for trying to give fans who still enjoy "playing" w/ their figs an alternative to DCD's less sturdy, more $$$ figs which are not always in scale. The Bat Family is still my favorite group of DCU heroes, but it still would have been nice to do "team-ups".

Mattel not getting the license is sad, but Im not sure thats the reason we are complaining.
Yes we would have loved a 4H Wonder Woman or Flash, and then to have the rest of the DCU expanded into action figure form in the ways like Marvel Legneds. But I think the thing we are griping at most is just the character selection. Its not that we are not getting Wonder Woman its the fact we are getting 15 Batmans. I believe were griping over the fact that were at the begining getting characters we already have 15 seperate action figures of. I know of 3 Jokers ive had, 2 Two Faces (thinking of getting my third), 10 Batmans, etc. But if you step back and think about it, Batman and Superman comprise around probably 30% of the DCU if not more. So I believe that all Mattel would have to do to make everyone happy is to just dive in to the characters offered. And to be honest they havent really done that. As I stated, they are coming out with the heavy hitters first which we already have multiples in some form or other. They havent really given us any characters yet that makes us think - wow he was made into one - like Marvel Legends has. To be honest they have done this a little. The Cassandra Caine Batgirl, and Azrael. But if this line is to succeed with out the master licence it needs to start pumping out alot more B characters that make us step back and soon. And reflecting on the Batman/Superman families there is still alot of heroes in there to still give credence to the name of the toyline. Both have indivisual heroes that can make good figures. For the superman lines you could make Superboy, Guardian, and Gangbuster. For Batman, people like Ragman, Spoiler. Theres also a few that as some boards have said could be snuck in. Black Lightning fights crime in Gotham. Black Canary could be gotten through since in the last few years she has become closely linked with Batman. Also characters from the BIRDS OF PREY comic might be able to get made. As I have said, were not complaining over not getting the expanded DCU, were complaing over the fact that we are still getting figures of the heavy hitters, nothing that makes us step back. We need figures of the most random people from Batman/Superman and we need them now if this line is not to go the way of the original Batman line. Also we dont need any more purple or banana boat Batmans but thats a whole other thread.
Sorry if this is way to long, coming off another one of my insomniac nights. DrGreenEvil

All I can say is that much more of my money will be staying much closer to home. I already only buy a very very small amount of DCD stuff... now for multiple reasons I'm sure I'll be buying even less. As for DCSH, I have no intention of buying multiple variants of batman or superman nor buying into any re-releases. I'll *support the line, by getting any truly impressive/desired pieces, but no reason or motivation to really "devote" myself to it

How terrible. It won't affect what I buy from this line, of course, but it is extremely maddening that DC/DCD would do this. Not that I ever bought very much DC Direct stuff, but I don't think I'll be buying anything from them ever again now. Maybe others like me, who aren't incredibly fond of DC Direct anyway(or perhaps even some that are), will do the same. It wouldn't make this better, but it would be satisfying for me to see DC Direct lose money because of this(the more the better).

Thats really too bad.
With the 4 Horsemen at the helm, the Superhero line could have been very sucessful. Now after a few Superman and Batman waves, it will just die off.

Well none of us will ever get any honest or complete answers regarding what goes on behind the closed boardroom doors entirely, but as I understand it, DCD isnt exactly (at least not soley) to be *blamed for this? As I'm begining to learn and see, the majority of this and similar (past and present) "problems" are coming directly form the DC corporate heads. If anyone were so inclined, the only way one could "stick it to the man" or get your voice heard through any form of "protest", would be by essentially "boycotting" any and all DC properties in all forms... but nobody wants that nor would would we realistically be capable of such a thing since cause we LOVE THIS STUFF! and therein lay the problem. As such great fans, it gets really frustrating, dissapointing and tiresome constantly seeing such great potential routinely "wasted" and only ever getting the bare minimum of what's *possible in our eyes. It's doubly disheartning when we Know there are fans on the inside trying their best to bring us what we want and what we (and the properties themselves) deserve, only to be shot down by seemingly lame brained executive ($$$) decisions. With few and far between exceptins, DC only ever seems to scratch the surface of greatness when it comes to anything outside of the comics themselves. As someone who deeply adores these incredible properties, I'm just tired of seeing them get "hijacked" or "sabotaged" by their own?
