Edge stripped By Craig Tello Written: July 17, 2007LAREDO, Texas – In a twist of irony for the Ultimate Opportunist, tonight was a night of ultimate defeat for former World Heavyweight Champion Edge, and great opportunity for the new gold bearer on SmackDown, The Great Khali.
In the middle of his brush with the Big Red Machine last week on SmackDown, the Rated-R Superstar tore his left pectoral muscle within Kane’s clutches. As a result, Edge’s doctors have ordered surgery, and have stated that he will be out of action for four months. Just days before his scheduled championship defense against his injuring party at The Great American Bash, Edge came to Laredo, Texas, to announce that he will be unable to compete on Sunday.
However, the best laid plans of the Ultimate Opportunist were abolished as SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long informed the champion of a critical clause in the WWE rulebook. Under official WWE edict, a World Champion must defend the title within a 30-day period in order to keep the gold. As Edge stood in sheer disbelief, Long was forced to strip the self-indulgent Rated-R Superstar of the World Heavyweight Championship in the center of the ring. The shock and abhorrence in the eyes of the now-former champion spoke loud – almost as loud as Edge’s comments for WWE.com, just moments after being stripped of his prize.
“I’m still the rightful champion,” asserted the injured Rated-R Superstar. “My pectoral muscle is hanging on by a single fiber; literally hanging from the bone. Theodore Long comes out and strips me of what I’ve worked for my entire career – from childhood until now. My mood is obviously not great right now. I’m disgusted.”
Though Edge would have the world believe differently, Long’s decision wasn’t an attempt to target the notorious and controversial champion, as the GM further explained to WWE.com.
“It clearly states in the WWE rulebook that the holder of the World Heavyweight Championship must defend the title within that period of time,” Long contended. “Edge can’t do that, so I had no choice but to strip him of his title. Nothing’s personal. I’m just doing my job.”
As Edge made perfectly clear in a very long-winded address celebrating himself, he is no stranger to injury. In his near decade-long career, the Rated-R Superstar has been met by physical wounds of all kinds, but never as the World Heavyweight Champion.
“I go out there and put my body through hell,” exclaimed the Ultimate Opportunist. “I’ve broken my neck, dislocated my shoulder twice, torn my other peck, my elbows are mush, I have two protruding discs in my lower back. I even got bit by a brown recluse spider that turned into a flesh-eating disease – the list goes on. I still go out there and prove that I am the best.”
But according to Edge, enduring the damage that accompanies the life of a WWE Superstar – not to mention a champion – is not for anyone but himself.
“Why do I still do this? Not for them. I do it for my pride,” added the emotional Superstar. “I don’t give a rat’s a** what the fans think. I never have. That’s not how I operate.”
Was it our fans who drove Kane to stalk the Rated-R Superstar and ultimately lead to his injury last week? Perhaps that’s where the blame will fall in Edge’s reddened eyes.
“I know that fans will be happy with this, and that pisses me off,” Edge stated. “I’ve come to the realization that our fans never will appreciate me. But they had to live with me as their champion, and when I return and become a four-time World Champion, they’ll have to deal with me again.”
Be sure to tune in to SmackDown this Friday night at 8/7 CT on The CW Network to watch the Ultimate Opportunist’s ultimate downfall, and catch the fallout involving the World Heavyweight Title.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Khali's greatest victory By Mike McAvennie Written: July 17, 2007LAREDO, Texas – A new World Heavyweight Champion walks tall among us this night, and his name is The Great Khali.
No, you’ve read this right – The Great Khali now holds sports-entertainment’s most elite prize, one that dwarfs even his 7-foot-3, 420-pound frame. During tonight’s taping of SmackDown in the Laredo Entertainment Center, he won the title in true colossal fashion, by being the last man to stand inside the ring after an excruciatingly hard-fought 20-Man Battle Royal. The historic contest had been ordered by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, who earlier this evening had ordered an injured Edge to surrender the World Heavyweight Title.
After pulling off his truly enormous feat, the largest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history needs a challenger for The Great American Bash. A No. 1 Contender’s Match – also ordered this evening by SmackDown GM Long – will determine whether it’s Batista, whom Khali had originally agreed to face this Sunday, or Kane, the Big Red Monster who was supposed to meet Edge at the pay-per-view. And the only way to find out who wins that contest – as well as how Khali walked out of Laredo with the World Heavyweight Title – is to watch SmackDown this Friday night at 8/7 CT on The CW Network.

NO WRESTLING FOR SCOTT STEINER FOR NOW - While Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner made his return at the Victory Road pay-per-view, the former WCW champion is not expected to be wrestling for the next month as he is still recuperating from the throat surgery he underwent in Puerto Rico. Steiner was injured during a live event in PR and was rushed to the hospital later that night after he had trouble breathing. He will be appearing on iMPACT! in the meantime in a non-wrestling role until he's cleared to return

I hate how in today's wrestling world, if the company likes you, you go straight to the top. You dont have to work your way up. I cant stand how Lashley, Khali, and some others have just shot to the top because they are big. It all started with Kurt Angle. He didnt deserve to get that high that fast. John Cena is in this same boat. But atleast he's fighting and trying to stay on top. Im glad they pushed Edge up to main event status. He deserves it being with the company for years. Another situation related to this is crowning Nitro as the ECW champ. That was so stupid, should have just given it to Punk.

A lot of it(with a few exceptions) is based on fan reaction. If the fans react one way or the other, somebody is doing something right. Khali is an exception, you're right. I have no idea why he would get a title run. I'm sure it also has a lot to do with attitude & comraderie behind the scenes. Maybe Khali is a very nice guy and Vince/one of the bookers decided to give him a break. Some guys take the ball and run with it(Edge, Angle, Cena) and some don't. You just never know

To me,
With some exception towards Cena and Edge, their are no Austin's or Rock's in the making right now. Im really hoping that they are able to finally push Booker and Misterio up to that level. They with Edge would be deserving of maineventing and holding the championship. Also, I really think that if wwe would tap into the Sandman and his fan base, that they could have another deserving main eventer. But with his move to Raw, it just says that the company is trying to kill and bury him.
DrGreenEvil
ps: Randy Orton is another one of those people that shot to the top way to fast and didnt deserve it. Also, although I dont personally like Mark Henry, he's another that has been with the company so long that Im completely behind them pushing him up to that level.

FORMER ECW TAG TEAM CHAMP FOUND DEAD - Former ECW tag team title holder John Kronus - real name George Caiazo - was found dead yesterday afternoon at his girlfriend's home in New Hampshire. No other details have been released about his death. Kronus worked with Perry Saturn as one of the most dominant tag teams in the history of ECW where they were known as The Eliminators. He held the ECW tag team title four times - three times with Saturn and once with New Jack - during his four year stint with the company.

They were nothing but cartoon characters I agree with you about The Rock, he was great on the mic, but only had like three or four wrestling moves. But I disagree with you on SCSA, the guy had it all, great mic skills and the man could wrestle, he displayed just that in wCw, but for some reason the more popular he got in the WWE he didn't display them as much...

It's because he was hurt all the time, remember, he wrestled with braces on both knees, and he broke his neck at one point

currently Ken Kennedy and MVP are being groomed to be main eventers in the near future. also WWE really like Kenny Dykstra and many say that he'll be the top guy in 2009 or 2010. Johnny Jeter and Cody Rhodes (who are both in OVW) are on the come up, especially Rhodes as he is really good on the mic, he really inherited his father's gift of gab. the thing with Lashley is that he's the new Brock Lesnar. a power guy that's very agile and can wrestle. that's why he's become top card and i think he should be top card. Cena worked his way up and wasn't shot to the top. the reason Orton seems to have been rushed was because of the year he was out with injury that he would have spent working his way up on tv, but he couldn't and he was very ready. also McMahon likes his long term champions to be able to work the mic and Cena can very well.
it really doesnt matter anyway as Triple H is coming back and he writes and runs Raw, he is great on the mic, can wrestle, and hasn't been champ in a long time, so expect him to win the title and keep it for a while, which i for 1 can't wait to see happen.
as for Mysterio, he's not a main event guy and probaly wont get the title again. i expect him to feud with MVP before he becomes the top heel on smackdown.

Rock was a great character for the industry, but then he started going Hollywood. The Rock sold out and turned his back on all of his wrestling fans. You know, he wouldn't even be in all his crappy movies if it wasn't for wrestling, and now the guys supposed to be Johnny Bravo. Oh how low the Rock has fallen.

NEW MATCH ADDED TO PAY-PER-VIEW - A new match has been added to tomorrow's Great American Bash pay-per-view between The Sandman and Carlito in a Singapore Cane match. This match was probably added because the Khali vs Batista match was scrapped as the two of them joined Kane in the main event after Edge had to surrender his World title due to an injury.

The Triple Threat Title match (C) The Great Khali vs Kane vs Batista What a big mess of a match, The Great Khali is horrible and I have no idea why he is the champion, he only has like three moves, punch, clothesline, chop and he can't even get those right, the only good parts of the match was when Khali was down and out and Batista and Kane wrestled each other. Kane hit a real big sloppy ChokeSlam on Khali that wasn't even that great he got him like a foot off the ground and Khali helped out. Batista was impressive when he picked Khali up and hit a Standing Spinebuster, but in the end it was Khali nailing Kane with The Punjabby Slam (spelling) Jeff Hardy vs Umanga & Candice Michelle vs Melina were pretty good. (c)MVP vs Matt Hardy had certain spots of greatness but had some sloppy spots on MVP's part (c)John Morrison vs CM Punk was pretty boring, along with Carlito vs Sandman and Dusty Rhodes vs Randy Orton, Dusty has no business in the ring (C)John Cena vs Bobby Lashley had some good moments, alot of power moves, and John Cena threw Bobby Lashley off the top rope with an F-U, and dropped down for the pin. Can't wait for HHH to come back at Summer Slam The King of Kings!!!

WILL THEY JUST GIVE TRIPLE H THE TITLE BACK ALREADY! I CAN'T HAVE JOHN CENA AS CHAMPION FOR 8 YEARS!

Bruno is the wwe record holder, but Lou Thesz is the longest reigning world champion in history, by a few weeks. and Verne Gagne held the AWA title for 8 years as well. no wrestler will ever get close to that again and no one has come anywhere close to that since Dan Severn in the late nineties. like i said before Triple H will take it at Survivor Series.

SUMMERSLAM MATCH WITH JACKASS CAST DROPPED - PWInsider.com' s Dave Scherer is reporting that the match featuring Umaga taking on the Jackass stars has been canceled after the deal went off the table last week. The match was initially made public by Jackass' Steve-O who revealed the match in an entry on his blog on his MySpace page. Steve-O was backstage at a RAW event recently and was not on his best behavior and WWE threatened to call off the match. Steve-O was trying to film WWE Superstars doing stupid things to him for an upcoming DVD and he said that Umaga was ready to choke him out. WWE even released a poster for SummerSlam with Umaga standing behind the whole cast of Jackass with their bodies buried in the sand and their head sticking out. The poster carried the subtitle 'Featuring Jackass' under the SummerSlam logo. Steve-O's involvement however had no bearing on the outcome of the deal and it's rumored that it was the Jackass cast who decided to bail out mostly due to the Benoit tragedy. It is believed that Jackass star Bam Margera removed himself from the match saying he has an injury and afterwards Johnny Knoxville, the main guy of Jackass, backed out as well.

the jobber that Mark Henry squashed on tonight's smackdown, Joey Blaylock is really independent wrestler Joey Ryan. it's a shame WWE doesn't actually sign him, as he is a good wrestler, knows how to put on a show, and can be quite comedic at times. he can cut a promo as well. he wrestles mostly for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in California.
