[shadow=red,left,300]Quick question. This is a huge push for a new movie, how do you guys think this will affect Superman's future in films?[/shadow] I fear we'll get a rushed attempt. I would like to see Mark Millar's trilogy idea though.

If DC lost Superman it might as well be a sign that the apocalypse is coming.

I don't know if I were Marvel I'd be saving my pennies to try and buy the rights to boy blue i didnt even think of that. imagine Superman as a Marvel character. i'd actually love to see that. just to see what it would do to each company and their characters.

^Stan Lee already did that in the "What if Stan Lee imagined the DC Universe" series. it had it moments. Besides, as you guys(I'm looking at you, jlavaia) who are always talking about multi verse crap and coninuity, the Superman of today isn't the Superman of Action Comics #1.

^ DC wont be able to use the name Superman and probaly wouldnt be able to use Kal-anything (whether its Kal-L, Kal-El, etc). remember when they lost the rights to the name Superboy and killed him off and just had people call him Connor when they had to mention him. same thing would happen. DC would have him vanish or leave or they'd try to kill him off or something and any reference to the character would be as Clark and nothing else.

I would like to see Mark Millar's trilogy idea though. No way! I am ok with Mark Millar writing the script for the trilogy. I am going to draw the line at him directing. Look what happened to The Spirit when Frank Millar sat in the director's chair! Personally I would like to see J.J. Abrams direct a Superman movie. But he should drop his Superman Flyby idea first!

^ they regained the rights to Superboy and Connor already came back in Legion of 3 Worlds. i was referring to what happened when they lost the rights. they had killed him off right away and never referred to the character as Superboy.

OK...
I don't quite understand how this is a ruling in favor of the WB and DC. If the Siegels and Shusters are going to own the copyright in a few years and WB is gonna have to get a license to use Superman, how is that a good thing ?
But wasn't it said somewhere that although they own the copyright, the wb would still own the trademark ? So does that basically mean then that the only people the Siegals and Shusters could really license Superman out to is the WB ?
But all the possibilities like what jlavaia and Matt discussed are intriguing and scary in many ways.

This whole thing is just... man!!!!!
Really starting to look like the wb is losing superman. Can DC comics survive with just Batman and Wonder Woman. And I'm not just talking comics. I'm talking all media. Especially since Wonder Woman has the legal restraining order on her where all motion picture media must have her as the star or part of an ensemble. Would Superman's place in the trinity become like a rotating legacy chair, filled by Supergirl, Steel, Ultraman, Lex Luthor, and all the other Supes spinoff, ripoffs, and clones ? Although, I am for making Kel Al/Superman X from the Legion cartoon the permanent Superman.
I know I'm gonna get slammed for being a dreamer on this... But I still feel like alot of this is just out of greed of the Siegel and Shuster decendants. And I feel it would be really funny if after they will and get all the money and have to pay the lawyer his huge fees... That they forget to file some paperwork that causes Superman to fall into the public domain. All that work and money to get it back, then not be able to make any money off it themselves. It would be freakin hilarious. DC then could continue on with what they are doing. But then Marvel and all these other companies could jump up with their own interpretation. Its kinda scary actually.

OK, I'm sorry. Sometimes I can be dense...what does this mean?? Does it mean that Superman is no longer part of the JLA and he can't be in anything DC/JLA related? I'm sorry this is just very confusing...

OK, I'm sorry. Sometimes I can be dense...what does this mean?? Does it mean that Superman is no longer part of the JLA and he can't be in anything DC/JLA related? I'm sorry this is just very confusing... basically it means that Superman wont be published by DC in 2013. his history will remain a part of the DCU, but he wont be referenced, and if he ever is it will be as Clark or him or something of that kind. while Superman may get bought by Marvel, the real money will be in the films. thats what the whole thing is about. Warner Brothers wont be able to make Superman movies. another company can. it doesnt have to be a comic related company. Fox can buy the rights and make a Superman movie. Marvel could. Ted Turner could buy the rights and just make a series of made for tv movies to air on all his channels. but then again, Warner Brothers could just be forced to pay an insane amount of money to reaquire the license and hope that they make it back with movies, tv, and comics. we wont know anything until 2011 and 2013.

WB will probably just buy them out hopefully. But this is just ridiculous. This guy didn't do $#!+ in creating Superman, and he's feeling like it's his propety. It's hard to imagine DC without Superman, but I bet Marvel and every other promotion won't take Superman so they'll sell it back to WB/DC.

DC-Siegel Litigation Puts New Superman Movie On Hold? www.newsarama.com/film/090917-superman-movie-no-plans.html"We've obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it's a key part of the family, but we don't have current plans behind Superman." Uh, they do realize that if they don't make a movie by 2013, they lose the rights, right?

Oh, you do realize that DC has issues with properly utilizing their resources, right? lol. There is a reason Marvel dominates them on the big screen. Dark Knight was the one exception.
