Hello again...It's time for the second thread for what's your favorite episode from the 2nd Season/ volume of the Batman: The Animated Series DVDS? For me, I'm torn between "If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?", The Joker's Wild, and The Laughing Fish...Mark Hamil is my favorite voice actor on the show, and, IMO, his best/ darkest episode was The Laughing Fish...The episode still startles me/ freaks me out whenever I watch it, and it was a clever mixing of two different Joker comic stories ("The Laughing Fish", and, "The Joker's Five-Way Revenge") that, IMO, is better because it was mixed...
What's your favorite episode, and why is it your favorite?

[shadow=purple,left,300]I have always loved the episode "Perchance to Dream." That episode has always made me think about the pros and cons of an alternate reality where everything was created to fit your needs (and even though the episode was made years prior to this, it kind of builds on some points raised by "Vanilla Sky," which was a decent movie).
I also enjoy "The Mechanic," "The Laughing Fish," "Harley and Ivy" and "Almost Got 'Im."[/shadow]

I liked the 2 part Robin origin. It showed us a young Dick Grayson and an old Batman costume.

I liked the 2 part Robin origin. It showed us a young Dick Grayson and an old Batman costume. That's true...The episode did feature the first appearance of the oval-less Bat-suit, and for that, IMO, it put it one step above other episodes...

I agree with Batfan1990, my favorite episode of this season is Robin's reckoning. I actually find that I can't usually choose one part over the other, with the B:TAS to parters, easily, but if I have to, I go for part 2 most times. Anyway, I love Robin's reckoning this season because it is so emotional, so sad, that I can't deny it my favoritism. I also love Off Balance, because I just think it's a really cool episode, and the Laughing Fish, a great Joker episode, with classic roots.

I agree...I also usually go with the second part, because, if you think about it, you get the most important events during the "flash-back" before the episode starts anyways...

I went with If You're So Smart Why Aren't You Rich? for the simple reason that the Maze was such a cool and clever location. Also there's nothing cooler than a Minotaur.

That's true, the location was one of the best locations to explore in animation...That, and, IMO, it was one of the best episodes to tribute/ summerize the 40's/50's comics with the giant props/ fantastic traps...
Oh, there's only one other thing that could be cooler than a minotaur... ...TWO minotaurs! ;D

My vote goes to I Am The Night. Not only does it have an awesome title, but the plot is very good.
It is one my favorite episodes and strikes a personal chord for me. It really shows how human Bruce Wayne really is and that he's not always just a bad@$$ vigilante. Kevin Conroy's voice acting is at its finest in this episode, especially when he's contemplating about what might happen if he failed to save Dick, Alfred, or Leslie. You can really feel the pain in his voice.
And it's got a really sweet ending. Sweet meaning two things: a) Cool b) Touching The way the whole "stopping the Jazzman from killing Gordon" was coordinated....it was awesome. Batman throwing the batarang, it hitting its target right when Bullock burst through the door. That was so cool.
And touching in this rather rare heart-to-heart conversation with Gordon. GORDON: The bust...went down okay? BATMAN: Yes. Get some rest now. GORDON: Gotta keep fighting. Never stop. What I try to live by. Maybe I had been younger I could have been like you. Always wanted to be a hero. BATMAN: You are a hero, Jim. I'd watch the episode over and over again just to hear this conversation. It gets me almost teary eyed every time on just how emotional and touching it is.

I loved "The Man Who Killed Batman" because of quotes like this...(The Joker places a sign on Batman's scorched cowl that says "Kick Me")
Harley Quinn: Mister J...You really know how to put the "fun" in "funeral"...
That, and the Joker's erratic facial expressions when he's delivering his "speech/ ulogy"...

I remember that episode vividly, as with all the B:TAS eps, but for some reason, I can't recall the Joker's "erratic facial expressions". I'll have to watch it again, sounds hilarious. And it is a cool episode, I always enjoyed it. BTW, the pretty much sole exception to my "part two is usually the best part" philosophy( ;D) is Two-Face, part one of which is my favorite part.

Here's his facial expressions, from the actual storyboards for the episode...Enjoy... ;D For me, the "which part is the best out of two" question is always on a case-by-case basis...I loved the Clayface/ Two-Face two parters, but, I like the fact that in the second parts of both of the respective episodes there was a "Previously on..." segment, so that fans/ younger audiences like me could have a refresher as to the contents of the episode in case we happened to miss out on the first part...

Almost Got 'Im got my vote. Excellent episode. Very much shed a little light on the villians as the heart of the episode rather than The Batman

Being the great Joker fan that I am, I voted for Joker's Wild. It's probably one of my favorite Joker episodes next to the Laughing Fish. It's just a fun episode to watch. Two thumbs up IMO.

I think Mudslide stands just a little bit better than the other great ones. Clayface is a really great character. This one was really emotional too. I thought this season was more even than season 1 and did a lot of episodes that reflected Bruce's training. The introduction of Riddler was a welcome addition as well. I look forward to season three DVD.

Well, do to my OBVIOUS title, I'd have to go with "If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?" Its the first and best Riddler episode, the second being Riddler's Reform. I also REALLLY like the Laughing Fish, that's got to be one of the greatest Joker episodes EVER... I do like Joker's Wild, but Laughing Fish is a very serious Joker episode. I like Joker's Wild because its got some really great shtic between Joker and Poison Ivy... "If you hold my hand I'll slap you"... Hee-Haw-larious. But def. "If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?" Long title, awesome episode. Kinda like what you said at the begining of the post DH.

I went with my partner on this one, man he chose all the episodes I was going to talk about. 'If Your So Smart why Aren't You Rich' was one of the VERY first episodes I ever saw. I was probably 4 when I watched that and I loved Riddler, back then I loved Joker more because Riddler only made like three appearances. 'The Laughing Fish' makes me laugh so much... Joker: " Yummy yum yum, EAT IT!" Harley: " Uh.. Mr. J I have this little problem with fish (Joker forces the fish into Harley's mouth, Harley talks with disgust) Yummy Yum Yum (runs away). Joker: " That's right folks Joker fish (harley hurls) Tempting, tangy, and of course..." Hench: " Highly low in cholesteral." LOL ;D I loved alot of episodes but another I liked was the one with Harley and Ivy teamed up. (Car pulls up next to goons, young boys start making howling noises at Ivy) Poison Ivy: " Boys, haven't your mommies ever told you that's not the polite way to attract a lady." Boy: " What are you going to do spank us?" Harley: " (pulls out a bazooka gun) Yeah and here's the paddle!" Boys: " Ahhh!!!! (jump out the car as it blows up)

Did no one like Mudslide? This was the closest thing to death that there was in B:TAS. I wish he wouldn't have been brought back in TNBA because it ruins some of what that ep. had. I thought all of the episodes that you guys have listed were great. I thought Almost Got 'Im was the next best.
Killer Croc: So there I was, in a ravine. I have Batman right where I want him, and... Poison Ivy: And? Killer Croc: I threw a rock at him! (All the villains have blank stares) Killer Croc: It was a big rock.
And the end twist was really cool. That bit with the light is just plain genious.
My third favorite is Robin's Reckoning part one. That death scene was such an incredible peice of animation and provided a needed substance to the character. Bravo!

I just voted on Mudslide. It's one of the best scenes when the lightning strikes and you see Batmans head pushing out of Clayface. I love that episode.
