What did people think of the Batcave? [shadow=purple,left,300]It was SWEET! Wayne Manor/ Mansion/ Penthouse or whatever they want to call it was cool too![/shadow]

I'm very, VERY impressed with the background designs on this show. I'm also very happy with how they are integrating the CG vehicles (mainly the Batmobile) into the cell animation, as opposed to having them stick out like a sore thumb as on Justice League.

What did people think of the Batcave? to be honest i got a little confused on this. where is wayne manor? where is the cave? how did he get to it thru the dumpster? is that a penthouse? the actual location od "home" wasn't really clear.
oh, i hate the bat-poles.

I really enjoyed the episode, especially after months of waiting. Sure the Joker's dialogue was off and the jokes were corney and the pace was too fast, but I loved everything else, the cave, the BAT-POLE thing, the gadgets, the car... But i think the real triumph for the series is ALFRED!!! In this show, we see Alfred as the father figure Bruce had and how he influences his life. Before, he was the butler who waited on him, but this Alfred gives advice and guidance rather than food and laundry. You also see him doing medical investigations, which a skill that he has that is lost in many adaptations. I hope this Alfred will be in Batman Begins, but we'll see...

What did people think of the Batcave? The Batcave was one of the stronger aspects of the show. I thought it retained the gothic look familiar with Batman and Wayne Manor while adding the industrial feel it needs. It was a nice contrast with some of the really colorful elements of the episode. I thought the batpoles were a nice touch too! And speaking of color, I'll take ol' blue and gray Bats Anyday! I'm glad the blue was kept as an accent color on Batman. Smart! Chad-

[glow=red,2,300]I for one loved it, Although it wasnt as story filled as I hoped, i saw it as a pilot episode witch it was IMO i thought it was better then "On Leather Wings" The pilot episode to BTAS. My favorite part of the eppy was The Joker Batman fight and Batman getting his cake and rembering his parents. I loved this show so much that i record every episode with a program on the computer called Beyond TV which records TV shows in Mpeg-2 format then i put it through another program that lets me cut out all the commercials and creat menus so then i put on a DVD now I have the first eppy on DVD ;D[/glow]

The episode was awesome!! I waited and waited and I finally seen it! It seems generally, nobody likes it as much as it was praised to be. I don't know why. But anyways, the ep was awesome, loved all the voices, designs, and fight scenes. The only possible thing that I don't like is the sky. It was green, then red. But that doesn't matter. I can't wait until next Saturday!!

Nice episode. I liked the rainy/stormy atmosphere of gotham, that was duplicated in the series. The batmobile scenes were slick, but the Joker is way off.

oh, i hate the bat-poles. The Wayne Mansion is not as remotely located as in the previous animated series, but the cave is directly underneath as always. In future episodes, you'll see the Batmobile emerge from a number of different hidden exits around the city. And you're entitled to your opinion, but I love the bat-poles. As long as Alfred never uses them... Chris

Two complaints:
-Saturday Morning cartoons require a degree in calculus to watch... at least on the Pacific coast. Normally Eastern time is the same as Pacific when it comes to watching TV shows... 10:30 Eastern/9:30 Central normally means we get the show at 10:30 (unless of course the network only has an Eastern feed like some cable channels, then we'd get it at 7:30, but I digress since WB is local affliates mostly) it was completely out of left field this aired at 9:30 here... and the local TV listenings said it would air at 9am so that was confusing too... and when sports start up Batman will probably get preempted here or moved to a random time >_< so confusing (to WB's credit, they TRY to say when a show will be on... Fox and ABC just say "later today!" expecting you only want to watch Power Rangers/reruns from Disney Channel or Crappy Animes for 3 hours to see a show you're looking for.)
-I like this version of Joker a lot animation wise... he's very crazy looking and his movements are perfect... but his voice >_< I'm willing to give it a few more episodes, but he kept slipping into "Gantu" mode... he might as well have been calling Batman a 'trog' in some sceens! (not really, but man! isn't that a good over zealious fanboy line?!) I'm sure in time he'll get the voice down so it doesn't sound like Gantu doing his hilliarous Luke Skywalker impression, but in this episode it was distracting.
I liked what little of the episode I saw (I'll need to wait 'til Friday to see the whole thing... that's another thing to Kid's WB's credit, they didn't eleminate their weekday afternoon line-up like ABC, FOX, and UPN did and have Cartoon Network as a second chance station... so even if I never figure out what time a cartoon is on Saturday morning, I've got plenty of other ways to see it before a DVD comes out)
I'm glad it doesn't look that much like Jackie Chan Adventures, not to knock the Dini/Bruce cartoons but for the most part they all looked the same, which is fine since they're the same world... I don't think Jackie or Jade would fit into Batman's cartoon nor would Batman look right fight tallsman demons with Jackie... I'm glad that even though it's the same art style they don't look like the same universe.... although that being said the Asian design influences seem a bit odd in Batman and I hope Killer Croc is still an ex-wrestler in this universe!! I'd love to see one of those Kid's WB bumper were they use AfterEffects or something and take footage from their shows to have characters interact with each other where Killer Croc and El Toro Fuerte fight each other to see who is the best wrestler on Kid'sWB... but then the Flea shows up and beats both of them!!!

it was AWESOME!!!!my only complaint is that wayne manor WAS inside gotham city instead on in the outskirts, how it always has been...But that is my only complaint...the joker was funny, batman was really cool and the car...wow...the car...soo cool...and the batboat was really cool too. The batpoles were really cool...he doesn't "slide" like the 60s show, he clings onto them and whee! really cool.

I'm sure it'll get better as time goes by but the Batwave has got to go! Yeah, I, too, dislike the batwave, but the batsignal is supposed to not exist yet, and I believe it's inevitable that it will emerge eventually. About Joker, yes, his jokes were REALLY corny, but I liked everything else about him! Besides, the jokes will probably get better in time. I liked the similarities to Jackie Chan, but that they weren't too prominent.

[shadow=blue,left,300]After all the wait, all the anticipation, and all of the talk associated with the show all I can say is......I LOVED IT!!
A fantastic beginning to what I believe will be classic show!! I did not think it was possible, but this show actually SURPASSED my very high expectations!
Matsuda's effort is very much appreciated by this Bat-fan as you can easily see that "The Batman" is a labor of love for him!
Some specifics.....
ART: I have grown to love Matsuda's designs more and more everytime I see them. For anyone to be given the task to put a fresh take on one of the most established icons in pop-culture, and pull it off, is simply amazing! As I have stated before, I fully expect this style to become the new standard of the animated DCU!
WRITING: Not as horrible as some tried to make it sound. In fact, quite the opposite. Sure, it needs a little work, but what new toon has ever been perfect from the beginning? IMO, the timing just seemed to be off a bit, but the content was excellent! Besides, I can recall several episodes of BTAS that I thought had weak writing, but Timm and Co. eventually got it right on a consistant basis. I have little doubt that Matsuda, Capizzi and team will do the same!
OVERALL: As I said..I loved it. Nothing more I can say, except that I cannot wait for NEXT SATURDAY!![/shadow]

I thought it was pretty cool. I will have to see some more episodes before I can make a verdict of like or dislike. I think you have to look at it as just another layer of the Batman universe. I don't think they can ever make a bad Batman cartoon or story simply because they character is so well established and classic.

I loved it, I cannot wait for next week. As far as a first episode I think it was perfect. It fleshed out The Batman far better than Batman: TAS' "On Leather WIngs" ever did. It is perfect, it gives us the reason Bruce does what he does, it says he is in his third year which is great. Lets hope they do this series like many other series. On season equals one year. I think it would be awesome to have Bruce celebrate his 4th year this time next year Oh and anyone know by chance who the next villian is in the next episode? Brent

i was just at the toonzone forums, and boy is it scary over there! they have a poll for reviewing the episode, and the poll is pretty mixed. but if you read the posts, i only found one good review. all the people that like it must be afraid to post in fear of being bashed by the hardcore Timm followers. i love the old show as much as the next person, but 'the batman' is not meant to replace it, it's just meant to be there, beside it. those guys at toonzone love that old show so much that they won't let it go. it's weird to go from there to here, because the reviews are opposite here. since i live in canada, i can't see the batman until november , so i won't be posting a review today...

Wow, now that is amazing! Someone posted here a short time ago that the longer the old Timm Batman ran, the more characters were introduced, the worse it got. Not to say it was bad, but just didn't have the umph it once had (which is typically the case over time). You're right, The Batman has carved out a nice nitch all it's own and with some tweaking, it'll be really great! Now how about a direct to video full length feature??!! Chad-

Liked it... certainly need to see more and definately MUST see more. Good and Bad elements as with any show let alone with an all new one centering around such a classic and popular star. Show needs to grow, adapt and iron out certain "bugs", get a rythum which I hope will come to pass . I liked the Joker more than expected to. his look, voice, actions, all thought were pretty sweet. Batman looked, sounded, acted fantastic. But I agree with whomever I read that said "as Bruce he's a little weak". Gotham looked awesome (did notice a TMNT look/feel). Batmobile and Batcave awesome (even the pole) No real problem with the Batboat design. couldnt really see it well enough. Loved Alfred, allthough his voice, accent and method of speach made me think of Sherlock Holmes lol Liked the new Police force but didnt like the voice used for the Chief.. didnt fit for me. Music was decent and the opening scene was cool but expected it to "fit" more with the tone and supposed direction of the show. didnt care for Rhupert Thorn. why not a new crime boss? why no Gordan or other person from the past? Show did feel rushed and the writing wasnt the greatest nor was the overall story. Bottom line in my opinion, if this is the best this series gets, it's fun and fine and may not last but something I/we should enjoy. Otherwise it can only get better

I genuinely liked this first episode. Not too crazy about the dreadlocked, martial-arts Joker , but the characters are riper for re-interpretation. Perhaps it'll grow on me.
Vehicles=WOW. Gadgets=WOW.
How didn't those two girls @ the basketball game see the huge bat symbol on Bruce's Batwave, though? D'oh!
Liked the light-up bat symbol on his belt to summon the car. Sweet!
I was such a B:TAS snob for a lot of years. I want to give this a chance to be great, too. Don't know how many of you are old enough to have caught the premeiere of B:TAS in 1992, but they showed The Cat and the Claw I and II. Ugh. Friggin Red Claw? Not the best way to start. ^_^
Good on Matsuda and his crew. Keep it coming!

Only thing I didn't like was the artwork. I was not aware the "Jackie Chan Cartoon People" were doing this show.
Eh, it'll be ok I think, just has to grow on me...I've always been a story driven person...as long as the story is tight...I can forgive the crummy choice for artwork.[/color][/shadow]

I'm personally a fan of the Jackie Chan Animation and enjoyed the art in The Batman, but it's not for everyone. Now when Bruce's niece comes to stay at the mansion, then we've got a problem. ;D

But are there any 6 or 7 years olds posting here? I don't think there are. However, I have, in my household a 10 yr old girl, and 4 boys, ages 9, 8, 5, and 20 some odd weeks. The infant, obviously doesn't count. ;D My older kids all LOVED the show. Everything stopped in my house while it was on. Usually, with Yugi, Pokemon, Mucha Lucha or whatever, there is some conversation - or some activity of some sort. I heard nothing while it was on. Based on that alone, I would say this will be a hit with the kids. After all - that's who its aimed at, right? My opinion, being an adult, does not really matter. Of course, WB would like the adult fans and the collector community to embrace the show, but if not - and it does well in it's target demographic - then it gets a pass. I really enjoyed the show. The story really didn't seem that rushed to me. Batman went where he had to, did what needed and got the job done. Quick and efficient. Just like Batman is supposed to be. There was no need for any background on the characters at this point - I know who Batman, the Joker and Thorne are. There's no need for their story to be told again and I'm sure the supporting cast will be fleshed out more in future episodes. This was a good first episode. The animation was excellent - I was more impressed than I thought I would be. Matsuda's style has really grown on me and now, I have to admit, I'm hooked. I want to see a Matsuda JLA. Matt - I'll join the Matsuda fan club now. Where do I pay my dues? ;D
