Alright...great discussion so far gang! You know how you can tell its a great ep? There's only two pages of posts and it takes me 20 minutes to read through 'em all!
There are most definately eps I enjoy more than others in this series...for example, Bat in the Belfry is my least favorite...and I'd rather watch Traction than Call of the Cobblepot. Even though I'm a huge fan of this series, there are some points I enjoy more than others.
I think what us fans are seeing now is that a series just needs a little room to expand...you can't judge it on one, two even five episodes...you need to let them re-tell the mythos their way....and as it expands we get a clearer understanding of this team's vision.
as usual, Larry said most of what I was going to say, but I'll add some things.
Firstly, Scarface/Vent. were perfect! I was so happy with them I can't even express it to you all. I was not looking forward to this ep to be honest...because scarface is usually pretty lame, as most of us obviously agree....but I knew from the intro that this ep was taking a stand both visually and in storytelling....it said things about Weskers state of mind in the first few seconds....really took me by surprise.
This ep was definately NOT catered to the kiddies! While I think they would enjoy it, this one was really for us fans! Robert Goodman did an amazing job. I would like to petition that he write MANY more eps in the future!! Who's with me? Think about it...I didn't walk away from it hearing a lot of cheesy puns...no nacho eating...(which doesn't bother me, but I know it does many of you). The characters were all taken seriously and given psychological depth to some degree!
I think the whole dating thing was handled perfectly. Its very in character for this Alfred (and really any IMO) to be looking out for Bruce more than Batman...especially at this young age. Some say Bruce died when his parents did. I highly disagree. I think the process certainly began...but it takes a lot of time alone with your mind to decay to the point of sheer, focused rage that he really is. He's not a super human...he's just a man, and a young man at that. It shows a realisitc view of Bruce battling with his need to be Batman and Aflred's trying to pull him back and keep him grounded as Bruce. I think eventually Alfred will learn that Bruce is and intends to be only Batman, and will come around to his way of thinking...but until then, he wiill father him....and thats what he should be doing.
my fav moment of the ep...when they show how deluded Wesker really is...as Scarface walks up and slaps Batman! I about died! I had to rewind it to show my wife...who subsequently looked at me blankly and moved on...but nevermind cause I LOVED it! It was a classic bat-moment...very BTAS.
as for the Wesker robot issue, seriously gang...the man's a genius...he has more than two personalities..its not outside of the realm of reason and its not pernament. It was just for this ep.
I give this one (and its the first time I've said this folks) a 10 out of 10!
