[shadow=purple,left,300]This was a fairly decent episode. The plot was okay, it was a little far fetched but it worked for the most part. The story kind of lagged at the middle of the episode, but it really picked up towards the end. The raccoon subplot helped pick up the pace (I'm really liking Alfred's expanded roles in each episode, even if they are for comic relief). As for the villains... It was nice to see a different role taken on by the Man-Bat. Heck, the Penguin wasn't even half bad!
Overall, not the best episode, but it wasn't bad. 8/10. [/shadow]

Not a bad episode. Pretty good. Then again I like Matsuda's version of Man-Bat, a truly evil character. Man -Bat is my 2nd favorate villian on The Batman next to Riddler. Penguin was okay.

Another just average episode - two in a row now w/ "Swamped" last week. Have we seen enough of Penguin yet? I know I have, especially without the twins in tow. The raccoon in the cave was an enjoyable diversion; it reminded me of the street urchin in the BTAS episode "The Underdwellers", who also gave Alfred a run for his money. To me the most interesting relationships in this series have to do with Yin, the police and the other authorities of Gotham - when they are out of the picture (as in the last two eps) I think the stories lose some focus and dramatic edge. 6/10 In an unrelated thought, does anybody else think that the creators are really pushing the kid's cartoon envelope with this Man-Bat? I mean this thing is really horrific, much more than in his first appearance. Savage, snarling, monstrous, in-your-face viciousness, spewing adhesive globs of some unspeakable secretion...At one point near the end it is ready to bite Batman's face OFF, but Alfred restores the power just in time, activating the control device. There is very little man in this here Man-Bat...he is more in the PG-13 range if you ask me. I certainly wouldn't let a 3 to 7 year old try to process those images. Of course, I think he's pretty cool, myself...

[shadow=red,left,300]This is the first episode not really to my liking. I'm kinda getting tired of Penguin, as it wasn't that long ago that we saw him (The Laughing Bat). Again, no Kabuki Twins in tow, which add a nice touch to ol' Oswald. Manbat on the other hand is one vicious beast. I liked his first appearance, and this one was even better. The racoon subplot didn't really do much for me to be honest. Could have done without that. Not one of my favorite episodes by any means..probably one of the weaker ones so far. Please, no more Penguin for awhile. [/shadow]

Didn't particularly care for it. For starters, I'm not a huge fan of the Penguin and I particularly don't like this incarnation. I'm also not a big Man-Bat fan, so that's a double whammy right there.
Other thoughts:
-- Pretty routine plot. Not quite template but not inventive either.
-- This and last week's episodes both felt like fill-ins. The season was looking more promising than this. I think it's been uneven overall now.
-- They really need to give us a break from the Penguin. He's been around way too much. He is a real liability on this show. They've made a mistake with him.
-- The little Robin reference with the raccoon mask was cute.

Average episode IMO. Penguin is getting annoying, i really don't like him that much. The racoon was fun, and it made alfred seem younger sorta. Chasing around the cave. The man bat was pretty cool.
--Wayneson i see where your coming with the whole pushing the envelope of children cartoon but kids can take IMO. It just makes bats look like a monster slayer or something. Im not the best person on this one tho, when i was little i would watch violent movies or scary ones all the time and it never bothered me. I remember watching jurassic park when i was three. I kinda understood the likeliness of a dinosaur or giant bat attacking me. But the man bat did get a little intense.

I like Penguin, especially the way Tom Kenny (Spongebob) does his voice, the only thing I hate is that they made him a gymnast!

I liked it a lot. Best use of Penguin and Man-Bat yet.
Seriously...this time around, Penguin was more true to the comics. He wasn't jumping around doing outlandish martial arts moves, instead he was more of a villain on the side who controlled others. There were no Kabuki twins, strangely enough, but his use of birds in his heists became an even more important part of the story. I love the part where he talks to his incompetent bird "henchmen." It was kinda cute and funny at the same time. I do agree that we've seen too much of Penguin, though. We need more Riddler and less of Oswald. Man-Bat was even better this time around than in his other episode. I don't know why, I just enjoyed him being around in this one more than the other one.
And yeah, I liked the Robin reference with the racoon.

I TIVO'd this one and watched it tonight with my fam....I honestly didn't feel as harshly about this ep as you all seem to. It was perfectly entertaining for me.
I tried purposefully to not let the fact that I'm sick of seeing the Penguin cloud my judgement on the episodes quality. I did miss the Kabuki Twins, though. Badly.
Man-Bat was ferocious...absolutely wonderful second appearance by him.
The writing, I felt, was spot on for this series. Not a line felt out of place. The animation...fluid as could be.
I loved the banter between Penguin and Man-Bat...team-ups like this are great to me...helps weave the new universe together....really develop the relationships and grudges.
plus, I enjoyed seeing langstrom slug penguin in the shoulder in that final scene, lol.
The Alfred back story was actually nice...I mean he's in a cave...animals would be an issue from time to time. Very cool idea.
all in all 8 out of 10

I was the exact same way; I loved watching "Night of the Living Dead" and other scary, intense stuff when I was a kid, too (and I am not suggesting that "The Batman" is that intense). It's just that now that I am a parent, I have a different perspective about this. The problem is that SOME younger kids are more sensitive to these images than others, and a nationally televised cartoon airing at 9:30 Saturday mornings is, I believe, considered to be a pretty safe time slot by parents, for even very young kids. It's just something that occurs to me from that perspective. As a Batman fan I love it, but as a parent it gives me pause.

I liked the episode but i found that at times it dragged a bit! I love 'The Batman' but this story did not show the best of Season 2 but not the worst eigher! I liked ManBat and the Penguin but it felt like it was missing something! I will give it a high 6/10 or a low 7/10 - animation and voices fine! Bring on The Batman ...

Just got the DVD ! First time I could watch these episodes. I'm writing this because I felt ''Pets'' is the best of season II. In The Batman, Penguin is used a lot. Moreso than B:TAS where he was the lowpoint in Bruce Timm's revival of the franchise. Matsuda and company really know how to make this character alive. The Penguin to me needs to be a bit freaky and sardonic. The fact of the matter is, I DO think The Joker is overused, overexposed. I couldn't say it's the same thing for Cobblepot. Every damn episode he's been in have been entertaining. Sure there's been the scarce WTF? plot twist (Sun-laser firing Egyptian statues are never a good idea), but they managed to keep Oswald as funny as the Joker can be, in this freaky-groovy way.
His interaction with Man-Bat was top notch. Treating him like a broken techie object of his was the pinnacle of comedy : ''Ok ! I gotta push this button to turn nerdy guy into Man-Bat Monster ?''. Just like Matt, I really had a good time watching this episode and it will be the first I will rewatch of the 2nd season.

I rather liked it to a degree. Man-Bat being controllled by The Penguin is better than a corny team up.

I REALLY liked it. I was up late and i watched it on YouTube just the other day. lmao. i was having ablast watching it. it was really cute. the whole "pep talk" in the beginning with Penguin and his birds was so adorable. and i almost fell out of my seat laughing when Langstrom punched penguin in the ending there. i thought it was clever. i don't know why it got some odd comments...lmao. but im just me. ^^
