LET ME BE THE FIRST TO SAY....
This episode was freakin' awesome. I loved how Freeze was reduced to his torso, as he had lost his legs, kind of a nod to TNBA. Batman kinda looked like Batman from "The Dark Knight Returns" comic. I also liked that they mentioned Detective Yin AND Dectective Bennett, meaning that the original Clayface had eventually been cured! It was also very interesting to see how the people of the future were wrong about so many things, about how Dr. Thomas Wayne was Batman and Bruce was Robin and the wheelchair belonged to Alfred... made me think about how wrong we could be about our own past...
I loved the future Mr. Freeze, very cool, very believable, I'm glad they didn't take him over the top like I was afraid they would... I'm also glad Freeze was the episode's villain choice, as he would be the only one who could still pose a threat to Batman when Batman was in his 50s or so... or even a thousand years into the future. The only thing I was dissapointed by was that they did not mention why Batgirl/Oracle/Barbara was suddenly in a wheelchair, but I guess they assumed diehard Batfans would already know that... A really awesome episode, I look forward to next week with great anticipation. 10/10

I actually was up early enough to finally catch a new episode, and boy did I pick a good one. Probably one of the best "The Batman" episodes to date. I also loved the nod to TNBA Freeze, although this one at more than just his head.
Hopefully someone at Mattel will hear our pleas and release a 4 pack based on this episode.

This episode was really good, I just was really let down with the only one scene of Nightwing in action, I was hoping we could see more of him. The animation though, had to be the best so far of the whole series. 10/10

I would be hard pressed to think of a better episode of "The Batman" than this. Multi-layered storytelling, with a dead-on respect and understanding of the history and mythology of the characters. The futuristic search team's storyline was immediately engaging, especially since the reason why their search was so critical wasn't revealed at the outset. As bits and pieces of the "legend" were uncovered, the narrative skillfully depicted how the team's deductions weren't quite on the mark compared to the actual history of the events. I loved how Oracle teased Dick about the "Nightwing" name, and how Bruce's obsession with "the mission" only increases with age, even though Dick is fully capable of assuming that mantle. Nice cameos from Alfred and Gordon reinforced the classic traits of their characters as well. But even with all of this storytelling and characterization, the episode featured some of the best animated action and suspense sequences that I've seen in this series. Even the background art sets a new standard. I'm out of superlatives. 11/10

That was an amazing episode. The designs for Batman & Oracle & Nightwing & Freeze look even better than they did at Comicon. The layers of the story where much deeper than I expected, although I kinda wished it where deeper. I've always wanted to see a brutal DKR style Batman on tv & I got it somewhat. He was more brutal than all the other episodes but still fairly tame compaired to DKR. Overall it's a great episode among my top 10. The one thing I can think of that would've improved on it is if they had gone with the Bruce Timm Freeze origin that involved Nora, so instead of freezing Gotham so he could be a megalomaniac icy king it would've been to make everyone suffered as he did. So that's my 2 cents. Can't wait for Seconds next week.

No quite as good as aI had hoped. Still, one of the better / top episodes, and certainly a "good" one. Nightwing made it for me personally. Some unexpected choppy dialog, but quite enjoyable overall.

It was almost perfect! Aside from the fact that I don't really like "future" episodes or series, this came off very well, without giving away too much about the rest of the show in the present.

I thought it was good, but I was hoping for more. For some reason I thought this was about Batman when he was Dark Knight like. I wanted to see more of him and Nightwing and Oracle, and talk about how they got there. Still a good episode

I must say, the only episode I actually want to be better then this is the Harley Quinn episode, if they can nail her like they nailed this episode I'll.... explode... or something.
A fantasic episode again, looking forward to Harley and the new Riddler episode. ;D ;D ;D

Another grand slam episode from season four! Batman was totally DKR, Nightwing was awesome (plus we saw a little glimpse of animosity between them), Oracle was in the wheelchair, and Alfred was alive (Apparently being a butler for Bruce Wayne doesn't have retirement plans). Nice to see future Freeze, but does anyone know what happened to give him spider legs? I wish we had a little more insight on some things, but it didn't make me less enjoy it.
9/10
Next week is Seconds, which from what I've heard is a pretty dark episode.

This episode was certainly well-done and a very creative idea... can't hold a candle to "A Matter of Family," in my opinion, but that's another post for another day. *g* A few other folks in this thread expressed regret that "Artifacts" didn't flesh out its characters more, and I guess that was my only real beef, too. I've come to care about Batman, Robin, Alfred and Batgirl a great deal since I first started watching "The Batman" this season, and I want to know its version of what happened over the course of those twenty years we missed. Of course, I want more of every episode and storyline, so.

Season 4 just gets better and better! Another great episode, especially the layering of the storyline. Amusing how in future, they got the Batman facts wrong - makes one wonders about our historic facts.. Love the banter between Oracle and Nightwing; " Maybe if I said it ten times, I'll remember it; Nightwing, Nightwing, Nightwing...." funny. After a thousand years, the sight of Batman still gives Mr Freeze the chill....cool.

I liked this episode. But personally Im not big into the future Batman as told by"Dark Knight Returns". To me Batgirl is Barbara Gordon, I kinda cant stand all the Oracle stuff. Also, since we were talking about the future of Batman, I think a stronger villian then Mr. Freeze should have been used. Perhaps Riddler, Catwoman, or the Joker. Kinda think they should have shown or explained more on how Mr Freeze was released from his cryo-chamber. The spider legs though were a nice nod to TNBA though. But to be honest ive also never liked the whole spider freeze idea to begin with. Nice to see the batwing still in use. Nightwing was cool.

Awesome episode. It was cool seeing all the 'nods' towards the other Batman stuff. But I wasn't that blown away with the episode like Matter of Family or Strange New World. I'll post some screen shots later! But man I'm really looking forward to Seconds. :-)

That was a COOL episode! I just wish they had or said something about Tim Drake. I wouldn't mind if they did this episode in more than one parts. So in the future, Batman gets pumped up and changes his chin... again. Hmm.. I love it!!

I thought it was "okay."
The episode had quite a few salutes across a few of the major comic events in Batman's history, and I kinda felt like that was all it was. A salute. (Speaking of - Freeze even said "The Dark Knight Returns...." when he first sees Batman in his larger than life form.)
I never really tend to latch onto "what if" types of episodes. You could argue that this was more fast forward than "what if," but I usually prefer continuous development in a show's setting.
So it was neat to see all the nods that were in there, but I don't think nods and salutes make a good story.
7 / 10

The Freeze use and plot was rather uninspired but it was ultimately just a vehicle for the story and it was handled well enough. I thought the concept of Batman engraving some of his secrets onto the titanium in the cave was simply brilliant and very imaginitive (if not a bit convenient in some aspects?). I didnt think it was Nec. for Batman to "return from the grave" on video though. I also thought it wouldve worked and offered a lot more had the one project leader ended up putting on the Batsuit at the end rather than it being holograms. Thats what I initially thought it was and found myself dissapointed. I think that wouldve given a nice sense of "continuation" Etc.

I'm not sure, but in the first shot of the suit, it has the "Old man" batsuit, with the black batsymbol, and the second shot of it was the traditional "The batman" batsuit, with yellow around the symbol... could be wrong though.

Batlaw - your comments reminded me of something. From a technical standpoint, I cannot even begin to calculate how much binary code would have to be carved into those walls in order to produce an interactive Batman.
Maybe that didn't bother anyone else, but I write software for a living and it... kinda bothered me a bit.

Maybe he had Robin and Batgirl do it for him? Or perhaps Alfred? Its not like Alfred has much to do outside the Wayne Manor hahaha
