Just found these pics on From Bricks to Bothans. In keeping with all those full scale Star Wars Lego statues (Jango Fett was AMAZING) which toured many large retail outlets several years ago here's............... BTW, Steve or Grand Admiral, is this an official Lego creation done by master builders or a fan creation?

Sorry I didn't post them here right away - I got em just as I was walking out the door from work. ;D Ace beat me to the big debut! ;D Yes, this is an official LEGO Batman statue. The guy standing next to it is Eric - one of the model designers. He's the same guy that worked on the LEGO SW cruiser that was recently auctioned off on Ebay for $31,000 +. While I was there in CT, I saw this being built. It was FASCINATING! Hundreds of hours, THOUSANDS of bricks went into it. The statue is 12 feet tall and has a fan inside it to make the cape billow behind him. Very cool stuff!

Another thing - notice on the lower corners of the statue there is a face - that's the Joker. There's one on either side. On the back is something else....

I'm envious that you got to see it being built Jeff!

Wow. Now that's a project. That would take me forever to build. They had about three/four people building it, for what appeared to be 9+ hrs a day (their job, obviously). Seeing the process was very cool. They have a basic idea of what the outer shape needs to be, but the individual placement of bricks (ie, a 1x4 or a 2x4 here, etc) is figured by the builder as he/she is building. Before I used to think sculptures like this were all computer generated and didn't involved much creativity or artistry. Now I have more respect for the creativity and talent that these guys incorporate. During the trip we met Erik Varszegi (sp?) and Dan, two of the master builders. Very cool guys - very nice and a lot of fun! -Lenny

Intersesting, I also always thought these were pre generated in CG form then built. I remember the Star Wars sets that toured the retail chains and the giant Vladek. Those were, of course, glued together. is the Batman in the pics actually the original model which will then be used as the basis for other copies?

That is so cool !! These life size Lego statues never cease to amaze me! And I didn’t even notice the Joker faces in the lower corners right away; Legos always really good with the details. That is a very cool statue. I can't wait when there are Lego Batman products in the store. I keep reading March or April is when they are supposed to be released, but I'm not sure if that means on Lego shop@home or in stores. Since Lego previously released their Spiderman II line around Easter in the stores, it's probably closer to April (but I would like them now ).
